    I really enjoyed watching this! Thanks so much for creating and posting this video. It’s wonderful to get a glimpse inside the full book, plus see how a solo player is using this system. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pick up this rpg system or not, but I can see now that it will be a must-have for me. The cohesive deceptively simple art style in this game is fabulous, too. Personally, I like to watch how you set up your play with items you’ve collected or have come from other games.

      I bought ICRPG Master Edition and I'm using GM less supplement called One Page Solo Engine. At first it a bit difficult, but I want to use the ICRPG index cards volumes so an idea I had is to pick a random index card and I roll an event that involve the index card, after I intreperted it and then so on after my Character die.

    Hi GG, great video, I love your tidiness in the play area! One suggestion, I know you are a very busy person, but also an inquisitive one too. I have been playing a solo hex crawl with Forbidden lands. It's a great system, I think you would like it and just wanted to mention it to you in case you might be looking for some new material. Have a great day and as always, your videos are MUCH appreciated. I just had at thought at the end of your video... what if you created a character in one system and played it a couple of times (I know you like to switch systems and shy away from campaigns) BUt... then use the same char in the other system you are playing... find a way (I know you can, you are amazing at adaptation) to convert the char to the new system... this way you keep the same char but he/she can grow over time.. of course you'll have to figure out how to level up your character as he/she gains experience.. that would be a neet thing to see! :)

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  3 роки тому +2

      I'd be hardpressed to choose "the very best" since the answer to that question depends on the criteria. Is it easy? It is cheap? Is it a certain theme? Is it a certain weight?
      I've done a vid on 5 "easy and cheap fantasy rule sets" to use. That vid is here: ua-cam.com/video/peoJ-KC3SL0/v-deo.html

  • @robharris6616
    @robharris6616 5 років тому

    I want to gamify turns of overarching factions in a fantasy campaign. I like the idea of being able to set a faction back by certain acts. For example a necromancer is developing a potion that animates undead. Winning an encounter with undead would slow him down and thus extend the time it takes for him to make the potion. I am stalled at trying to get a time frame for making the potion. I could just do a random roll but it seems like it should be comparable to the time frame from the crafting rules. I thank you for your videos it always makes me think

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому

      Rob Harris Thanks for the comment and you are making some excellent points as well as giving a perfect example of how time in an RPG is hard to manage and determine as well as an important thematic element.
      In your example time passing could be tied to crafting rules. Could it also be tied to skill or experience level-you might need a premise table to roll on so a ghoul of X level had this kind of time range whereas another might have a different one. That gives some randomness and fluidity to the specific task but not so much that its totally random with the range of an entire die (of whatever size).
      Or... you could create time modifiers to a roll for “under stress” etc

    • @robharris6616
      @robharris6616 5 років тому

      It's a low level campaign so there won't be to much variance on undead types but it does seem like a ghoul set him back more than a skeleton. Maybe I can use the xp of the creature, to show this difference. Something to think about.

    Thanks for reviewing this. Despite having some big personal differences with the guy, I was still considering buying this until I saw this review. Hank has some good ideas for things like AI charts and how to force movement through a dungeon by limiting player choices in a non-arbitrary manner. That said, this system is a little TOO simplistic for me. While the art design is more of a matter of personal choice (I know he's fond of the 70s marker art vibe), the paper that book is printed on is garbage. There's so many OSR type RPGs that exist that have things ICRPG doesn't that I fail to see what is the unique mechanic(s) of this system that I can't get elsewhere. Just my $0.02.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому +9

      Zak Hoskins On a practical level it offers both a fantasy and sci fi environment in one book. That’s cool for me. On my end I’m not looking for mechanical innovation per se when deciding what to use. The vibe of this book and its mechanics speaks to me; the quality of the author’s work and theory about game design also speaks to me. To each his own, of course.

    @kosterix123 5 років тому

    I would appreciate some kind of introductory talk about what goal you will try to attain in this video. All I see is someone looking up random text in some random book.
    I’m guessing you are generating a plot start point for some random rpg, but it’s all very vague to me. If you roll a how, there should be a how section in the book. Same for the what. But there is no such entry! You need to improvise.
    I can’t believe I’m saying this, but This kind of tedium is best generated by a computer, also its text files can be modified on the fly and your core book is fixed. Also computers are faster. Umoria did this better, and that was 1978 or thereabout.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому +6

      Kosteri x Seems to me from your various comments across my channel that solo RPGing is not something you’re interested in. The point of this vid and many of my others is to show how it’s possible to pick up a book, a die, and (usually) just an pencil and paper and start creating a story. That kind of gameplay isn’t for everyone but that’s what I’m showing in these vids.
