- I am so excited to share this Before and After of our Cottage Style Home! For anyone out there with a fixer upper, I thought it might be an encouragement to share some before and after photos of our home.
There are still many more projects ahead, but in eight years I feel so blessed by how far we've come. Here is what the outside of our home looked like before:

I love how gracious you are towards the previous owners, which is very thoughtful since you never know if they are watching. Quite often, before and after makeover videos focus on how horrible the “before” was in order to make the “after” better by comparison. But you acknowledged the work they had already done, and simply added that you had made it more your taste. I can tell you put a lot of work into your home, nonetheless, and it’s beautiful. Your thoughtful words make watching your video so pleasant! Thank you
You are truly blessed to have a father, a husband, and a brother-in-law that is able to help you. Cherish that! My father passed away. I miss him dearly. I'm not married, and I don't have a brother-in-law who can help. I love watching your video because even though I don't have anyone to help I know that I can do some things on my own. I do love your bathroom makeover. I wouldn't change a thing. I love the front yard with the window boxes and flower bed. You are truly blessed that you have people in your life the good Lord blessed you with ❤ thank you sharing and reminding me of how blessed we are with family in our lives
Wow! This video has really given me faith that I'll be able to have a beautiful home like yours. I live in a fixer upper and lately have felt so upset that we even bought this home, but now I'm feeling inspired to make this into my dream home even though it may take some time. How blessed you are to have a husband who is so handy around the house. I love my husband but changing a light bulb is a challenge for him (a bit of an exaggeration but not much) :) The first time I viewed your vlog was this past Christmas and I was immediately drawn not only to your beautiful home but to your sweet spirit. I cannot imagine three energetic little boys in that space. It's so lovely and pristine. We like a lot of the same things. Painted furniture especially. Recently, I painted one of our cupboards a moss green. It brought the outdoors in. And made it feel very cottage-y. Inside the cupboard are my tea cups and old time candy jars. The door inserts are "mesh screening" which allows me to view - and enjoy - my collectibles. TYFS. Your home is charming.
We gardeners love to share! My first perennial garden 30+ yrs ago was started with plants from my mom's friend. To today gardening friends and I share bulbs, oversized plants, etc. Share the love!💖🌷🌼🌻🌹🌿

I was discovered your site. Truly, truly beautiful. You both have worked so hard and your home is so warm and inviting. I can appreciate your hard work. My husband and I built a cottage type log cabin. It is our dream home. So I understand how much love it entails. My husband is a wood worked as well and has saved us so much money over the years. I know you are proud of your better half. I know he must be proud of you! What a great team you make. Your sons are blessed to have such a special place to call home. Just watch - your sons will be home renovators too! Our son watched Dad over the years and does much of the same thing his father did. Now Dad is a consultant as well! Blessings to your family.

You have such a beautiful home and gardens. When I was first married, I put in and or redid the flowerbeds, it instantly made our tiny little home have so much personality. We too were on a tight budget and there weren’t many living plants in the original gardens. We received plants from my in-laws and my parents. My in-laws also helped with putting garden beds in.
Many years and houses later, I still ask friends and family for plants. I still have plants from my mom, who has passed.
I call my gardens, my memory gardens. I can tell you where each plant has come from. I remember each garden they came from and most importantly, the memories of the giver.
I’ve given many plants to start new gardens, along with the stories of whom I received the plant from.
So the memories continue.
I love the style of your home, it’s so light and comfortable.

Your home is so beautiful, and all of your efforts have paid off handsomely, we lost our fixer-upper in the Historic flood in the Midwest, we had it just about the way we wanted it, so I built a brand new home miles away 🤗 it’s beautiful and safe from water 💕

Such a fabulous job on it all. We are never done renovating or decorating our homes. We evolve over the years, our style changes a little, etc... so wonderful to own a home and change with it!
Gorgeous flower beds. That is something I did NOT inherit from my Dad! He had the greenest thumb! Incredible flower beds and garden. Lots of stones walls! But I did inherit our family home. The flower beds are gone,I did try to revive them.... I just couldn’t.

I live in Grand Rapids and my girlfriend lives a few blocks from me in home with similar architecture. She calls it a storybook tudor. I think they look like something out of a story book. Andrea - I love your home. I love English cottage style. You two have done so much work and should be proud of what you accomplished. I love the shutters and window boxes and your lovely flowers. Hi I just watched this video and I loved everything you did. I live in Michigan too. I love your kitchen and what you did the only thing I would change is add a few plants that is if you have a green thumb and enjoy fooling with them. Above your fridge instead of the basket and flowers, (although very pretty) would be a perfect place for a plant because of that wonderful window you have there. You could get a vining plant and direct the vine to grow from the top of the fridge to drape around the window. Use small nails or even straight pins for the vine to rest on as it meanders around the window. I noticed you garden and bringing a few live plants into your home to satisfy your gardening bug in the winter. I don't know if you've found these wonderful vloggers but they are Garden Answers for Garden ideas, and Planterina for house plants. Both these women are so informative and fun to watch. They both live in areas that are the same growing zone as Michigan. Anyway I love your house and we have the same style and I'll be watching regularly. I have antiques as well. I hope you don't mind my unwanted advise. I'm almost 60 years old and I've earned the right to be mildly obnoxious... LOL!
