oh, I thought they are the same... learn something new!
I am from Canada and have been working in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years. We grew up calling everything that looks like a shrimp, a shrimp. But people in the restaurant industry usually use prawns because it's bigger and it is more flavourful similar to what your dad has mentioned.
Very good 👍 thanks 👌
I always thought prawn was just what Australians called shrimp. Thanks for the correction.
Also turtles swim in water while tortoises walk on land.
@@dealhunter4536 that one I think more people already know. As an American, I never learned about shrimp vs prawn until this video.
@@dealhunter4536 really? Do turtles ever leave the water? Tortoises never leave land?
@@GabriellaGabrielle no but its what they mostly do and they are two different species of animals :)
@@maymarzipan6697but looks almost same
My mum had a friend who owned a transport company in Hawaii. He bought a shrimp 'farm' in China and went to visit it quite a while later. On the way there, he got to talking with a stranger who told him there were some really great tasting shrimp at the village my mum's friend was going to. When the stranger was asked the cost of these shrimp, he said they were free! Apparently, workers there were robbing the place blind and giving the shrimp away! 😆
ya, that's about how things go there. if you aren't there in person, the locals will take advantage of this and rob you blind. they don't even consider it immoral or criminal, just opportunity since the owner isn't around anyways
I was prawn ready!
In the UK the word "shrimp" refers to a tiny little crustacean. I think they're called brown shrimp in other countries.
Very informative...thank you
so all these time i was told im eating shrimp when in fact i'm eating prawns??z
Prawns for me!
She said opens prawns area straight and you made shrimp straight
I love prawns to eat
Crawfish is just Lobster small edition
Most of the "shrimp" at your grocery store are saltwater prawns
I thought that shrimp(small) and prawn(big). Thanks. I like your channel. I've learn in many things for cooking tips. ♥️♥️
I’m like bubba in Forrest Gump I love shrimp to the ends of the universe
Strange. I wonder why the pet trade call the fresh water as shrimps, like yamato shrimp
just wondering.. does it make sense if someone is allergic with prawn but fine with shrimp or probably the other way around?
It rly depends on what sort of thing in shrimp/prawn one is allergic to. It might be a type of protein in their flesh/shell/etc. You can probably get the specific allergen tested and if the other animal doesn’t contain that, then you’re not allergic to it. (Not medical advice.)
@@terencesakamoto4416 that's true but many allergen tests offered here are using less specific parameters. there's no classification between shrimp vs prawn. sometimes they only refer to shellfish in general 😀 thanks for your suggestion!
I didn't know, thank you.
This is so interesting to know! I always thought they were the same.
Prawns also don’t brood their eggs unlike shrimp
The main way to sell to the us is as cheap crab meat for crab dip and crab cakes.
Idk but they both taste good
i think your dad actually mean salt water one is more delicious, other one is sweeter
Can you do a taste test on land crabs vs sea .
Awesome! Thanks for the clarification.
I much prefer salt water shrimp to prawns.
We call them "Ha" anyway in Chinese hahaha
Me and my family often go to this prawn fishing place, and for 9 years and counting I’ve held the family record for most prawn caught, my highest being 19 :)
my brother worked for the marines and they did catch fish and shrimps and more prawns are actually better then shrimps because there fatter there good even if there a boy or girl but prawns are expensive but it is worth if because of how juicy and good. they are so prawns is the win.
Always wondered. And makes great trivia!! 🙂
I thought it depends on the size. Interesting!
The king has spoken. Prawns are better. Finally the rest of the world can learn!
I miss harvesting my own shrimp from North Carolina
Ah Ha! I finally know the difference
prawns esp tiger prawns have more savory and sweeter taste than shrimp
I like both
Prawns for me ig
This is false I worked on prawn boats for years catching multiple species or prawns (tiger prawns, banana prawns, and king prawns) all in the salty ocean
I found shrimps are better grilled
Yup
Outside of North America, prawns are caught and farmed in salt water. Many places have freshwater shrimp and other crustaceans, often known by a range of local names. The distinction between shrimp and prawn is often based on size, with shrimp referring to smaller prawns, though terms can be used interchangeably to accomodate American speech.
We had the best prawn in the past and still some survive but the prawn got smaller than before.
Depends where you are in the world. Turns out a series of different definitions apply
They taste pretty much the same cooked. Idk about raw or anything else.
how come the bag of shrimp i bought at the grocery store look exactly like prawns.
use prawn for my ramen for aroma and flavor
Damn so have I ever had shrimp😬
I guess we live in the same city, Hong Kong
Prawn are cheaper.
prawns have much better meat texture
Okay i don't know if I'm wrong but im cantonese didn't the dad say saltwater shrimp? Or did i just hear wrong?
No offense but thanks for the trivia bro 👍
Shrimp arr freahwater prawns are saltwater
Malay is easier. Both called UDANG 😅
Prawns are better
prawns in australia are found in salt not fresh, shrimp are normally found in fresh
Can you use prawns in fried rice or is shrimp better in fried rice?
Well he kinda just said prawns are a more sweet flavor that I don’t think would work that well in fried rice and shrimp are more salty and savory
In hindi both are called jhinga 🙂
Not only in Hindi. My language also doesn't have a distinction, I thought that it is the same thing.
Is that a prabussy
Fu*k prawn and shrimp they are the both same thing I’m my heart
To be honest I know what your dad said
Crab
Findout....big.. comfortable....size....better....
OK will have to tell the prawn trawlers operating off the east coast Australia that they need to move into fresh water in order to catch prawns. That's the trouble with generalising folks, just saying.
Nothing better then a feed of prawn ay, but freshwater shrimp is pretty dang good tho
Prawns = Cockroach
Shrimp = Crickets
😆
Beans
Jesus loves you 😊
Wish you would stop with these shorts on the main channel.
Would also like if you skipped the stories with the recipes, on the recipe site. Its annoying that you have to skip and skip all the time, to see the recipe in this video. Keep that on the offcial youtube.
I'm fine with the stories on the recipe site because there are literally tabs on the top that say *Background,* *Ingredients,* *Steps,* and *Summary.* That let you easily skip the stories if you want to.
Though I do agree that it's probably a good idea to keep the shorts on a separate channel. Some people like them, and some people don't, but there's currently no way to toggle them off in your subscription feed. So a separate channel is a good way to do that.
@@WanderTheNomad when I use their recipes, I like to watch the video guide as I make it, so the stories is a problem for me.
Its not that I dont like them, it would just be nice to leave them on the recipe site.
