Hell no. This is laziness incorporated. This is a super bad first impression. The place I applied to work for won't even take the time to meet me face to face? I am not talking to a video prompt.

I absolutely agree with you that face to face, on a bad day for one of the interviewers, could exclude you from future interviews. Having that first interview through video, even with just a screener or being reviewed by one person, can pave the way for the in person interview mainly perhaps by focussing the questions on the areas you discussed in your recorded interview. What I mean is that you probably focused on your strongest traits, or best answers to the questions more than you would if that first interview was face to face. I hope that makes sense. I went through the process a year ago or so, with a company I really wanted to join. They liked the interview, then scheduled an in-person follow up. However, before that date was set they did say they were going to wait for someone perhaps more experienced. I was switching fields, I sort of understood, and I was disappointed. But the process was not flawed in my opinion. I've interviewed a lot of potential employees in my past, and it's such a long process to get that initial 'sorting out' done. I wish we had this 'way back then'. Sorry for the long answer, but I think you made a strong case for supporting this process, and regardless - it is the new norm.

That's awesome to hear about your experience Kevin! I also loved the process of video interviewing because I get a chance to make it through the "the sorting out phase"

I'm not against but I would get stressed since it's more robotic. hahaha. But it makes sense why companies do this as you mentioned. In that case, I support it since you'll at least get a chance instead of getting " Unfortunately, we decided to move along with ..."

When employers have all the power, I no longer care to participate. It is unjust and unfair and fascist.

Well, i see that video interviews are much more better than face to face ones, how?
Your interview may have the chance to be seen as much as you would normally ask them on phone to reconsider your all feedback. So give yourselves this chance and do not be out of professionalism to question the company interview process.

So you really think this new vid interview is bullet proof and more fair than the previous face to face approach? While I understand people are striving to be more productive vídeo interview might also have downsides, you assume recruiters are going to review your video at the best time, video speaking is a skill/competence that might be completely irrelevant to the role and you might discriminate really valuable people for the job vs people who have looks or skills that might be more appealing to a recruiter for the wrong reasons. I am all up and embrace things that help us improve but I must say this is not one that guarantees a better result. Also remember that recruiters need to get trained on what to look for on vid interviews and not be biased…in conclusion vid interview is not the next big thing, it’s a result of COVID and hope the world would find a right balance as face to face is ultimately the most relevant way to connect people and companies

I hate using internet interviewing apps. Sooooo antisocial and communist like. I now demand face to face interviews or nothing at all.

Your information is well thought out. But you talk so fast it’s very hard to comprehend everything that you’re offering. So consequently I’m losing part of the information and having to review your video over and over and over again just to catch up with what you’re saying. If possible slow it down just a bit for those of us that don’t learn at 100 miles an hour. I want your information all of it. Thank you for making the videos.
