The difference between mainframes/general computing and Gen AI/LLMs is that the former actually worked as in generating marginal value. LLMs, not so much. Moving fast, as in new versions, is not a hallmark of useful. Sure AI is here to stay but all the grifters are gonna be gone. That's a good thing. Stop the hype already ;) so we can get back to building useful stuff.
"You could almost use it to generate these RFPs" - the almost is doing a lot of lifting there 😂 also wait until clients generate responses, and vendors use LLMs to summarize from that. *fun insues* 😂😂😂
"It didn't end the music industry", well it kind of did. So much so that the only value in music is real live gigs now, except for very few distributors like spotify. Stealing is not a valid business model. Read IBM's ethics guide.
The variety of microphones in this video is interesting. It should be called Mixture of Microphones Tim’s airpods sound bad but is overprocessed to sound like its supposed to sound good but really makes it sound harsh because of the low quality microphone Chris has a real microphone so he sounds the best but it sounds like it was recorded over the stream which lowers the quality Marina is using her computer’s microphone I think because I can’t see one but regardless she sounds nasally and unnatural Brent is using the ole TRRS headphones with microphone. He sounds really hollow and maybe overly denoised Good conversation but incredibly hard to listen to
That was a great episode. Thanks for hosting this show!
Love IBM and it's content💙
Ironically, it was Thomas Watson, president of IBM who said in 1943: “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers”
the energy consumption would have been a concern if not for developments in geothermal drilling using masers
