i would Love to see how the people are doing that was in that documentary… The pregnant girl who was having her baby with Jason, i think about them often & wonder where they are now now! The guy would lost his brother, mother and father - is he still alive? I wish someone would do a follow up on them! Where are they now? Such a beautiful untouched place with the saddest souls living there.
My ancestors are from there. Ive akways wanted to go. The history or Appalachia, i love as well. The beauty is amazing even though most of its citizens are lost, broken and hopeless. My heart breaks
I agree the drug problem is real. However there are many programs to try to combat this. Also , new pharmacists are better educated and can refuse to fill narcotics for drug abusers. There are a lot of good people in southern West Virginia. Just as many that are hard working and above the poverty line as there are poor people. The only hope for our region is education. Generational poverty is real and it’s the true plague in Appalachia. Also seems like you only went to the poorest places to obtain your footage. There are many beautiful places in Oceana. As a whole, most Appalachians are hard working and have pride in theirselves and homes.
Why don't you raise awareness of the importance of that valley in world heritage. All of the flat area, indeed all of the land you drove on there was terraformed by ancient Americand thousands of years ago. There were 17 stone dams on the Clear Fork alone. The largest was 200 feet wide, 100 feet high and spanned the whole valley from ridge to ridge. They seem to have done this to turn what was a steep Appalachian valley like all the others around it today into rich bottom land. This is as important as Göbekli Tepe!!!!!! The foundations are still there, you can see some of them on Google Earth. Give the world a reason to spend time and money here for something other than drugs!!!!

Coal industry was king supported the whole local area for way over 100 years. Many our countries wars was won by this areas output of Met Coal for steel making during there time of need in wars. Now its full of broken down injured early dying coal miners & there families will little to no good paying jobs in area. Is 1 reason. Do our govt. Care Nope. Please Vote More Wisely 24 forward. Demand Term Limits 8 years or less including there families. No political family crime groups because that is what these fools been trying set up last 30+ years. Because it's proven they all are becoming multi- Millionaire's with no way on there govt. Yearly income this could happen. Its impossible no matter any of there lying excuses. Example? Joe Manchin daughter Heather only year or 2 ago sold out a huge bunch of WV jobs for her own personal 37+ million retirement fund. Talk about pile of work investigate her, She middle of WVU Scandal over lying about her degrees just get that job . Investigate the Manchin & Moore-Capito families how they get elected is a mystery. Arch Moore was #1 if not top 3 biggest crooked politicians ever in WV went fed prison over it. AJ Manchin resigned & ran. We blame northern WV keep reelected them 2. Way pass time to clean Trash out of DC.
