I heard the news on my bedroom TV that we (Buffalo) just traded for Hasek. I literally ran into the living room jumping up and down and screaming "we got Dominic Hasek!". My parents thought I was nuts. They never heard of him but I knew about him from card collecting. He was truly one of a kind!
Thats amazing. You were probably one of the few people who know him at that time.
Hasek was definitely one of the best goal keepers in NHL history.

Look at Roy's teams. Look at Brodeur's teams. Then look at Hasek's teams in Buffalo. Easy to see Hasek is the not just the greatest, but the best golie of all time. Had he played for Detroit during his Buffalo years, he'd have had just as many cups as Roy and Brodeur.
If he played for Detroit instead of Buffalo in the 90s, Detroit wins the cup every single year
Darren Puppa played better then Hasek in 1992-93. Pat Lafontaine was an animal that year and carried the Sabres. After 1993 Sabres started a rebuild and thats when Hasek started seeing a ton of shots. Roy having 3 Conn Smythe trophies puts him over Hasek. 9 out of 10 ranking systems have Roy over Hasek.

The only one that should be in the conversation is Roy. And even still, he’s a distant second for me. I’m biased though.
The “Dominator” was truly that. I’ve never seen a goalie take over games like Hasek. 2x league MVP! He single-handedly carried a mediocre Sabres team all the way to the Stanley Cup. 💪

I remember being at a bar/restaurant just outside Buffalo for the 08 cup. And in Buffalo when the teams are out playoffs the channels are still sport but muted or in a corner booth. Not that years cup. He wasn't only Ex loved Sabre on that detroit team so it was on main tv and loud. You do the city right and win somewhere else, still be welcomed back warmly.

Ok. He was not sole reason for that 99 team getting to the finals. That team was balanced in the playoffs. He did not steal any round for them. That is where my issue is with all the best goalie ever. I would take Roy any day over him. He did steal games in the playoffs at times but not anywhere where others have. He also faked injuries and quit on his team at times.

The worst trade was when Buffalo traded for Grant Fuhr………..Sabres gave up a 50 goal scorer for him
