Many years ago I had a gelding who was by an Arabian stallion out of a Quarterhorse mare. Absolutely the best most versitile horse I ever had . He loved into his late 20s

I immediately lost interest when they showed a photo of a Friesian horse, which has nothing to do with the subject matter.

All registered horses come from at least one of the foundation stallions. The Brierley Turk, The Darley Stud or the Godolphin Arabian.

My Arabian Stallion called Ibn Achmoun, ,meaning 'Son of the Moon', was the kindest , sweetest Natured Horse one could wish for. His Table Nickname was 'Mr Softee' because his grey Colour overtaking his Dapples, was the Colour of White Ice-cream, and, everybody, said how soft and kind his Nature was. He was an exciting ride, and, many people thought he was a bit too much for them to ride. The secret to riding these most beautiful horses,is to make sure you are not over 10 and a half stone, because they, From The Lady Wentworth Stud ,were purely Arabian, so built for Beauty and speedy, and Long distant Trails. Yes, they do know how beautiful they look, Softer with a long white fly away mane and Forelock, and, the exaggerated Full Tail held high like a flowing white Fountain, you just have to learn to sit as deep as you can in the Saddle, and, have as gentle as possible But in their mouths, I had a soft rubber Bit for long Rides, and, in the cooler fresh weather, a full bar straight Rubber Bit, only because, There was No Indoor School to get some of his freshness out of him, especially on the Roads, he never did anything wrong, but his Prancing and Dancing, tiny little Rears, made ,understandably , people not used to riding these Dresden looking animals a bit put off. The secret to learning to ride Arabian,s especially Stallions, is to let them do their Showy
Movements, as, it's usually on the same spot. Lady Wentworth rescued, many years ago, after the Second World War, four Mares and one Stallion from an Arab Country, where, they were not fed or treated as, any pony or Horse used to be.
If you want to read about The Crabbett Arabian Stud based in Surry, in those days,by the lovely Lady Wentworth , it's a thrilling read for those who love Horses, and shows old photograph of these Pure bred amazing Fairytale Horses. One word, they are all very sensitive Horses, and, if one gets into bad cruel hands, they can die of misuse, unlike tougher breeds, like the horses from tougher Work horses, or the huge Horses bred for fight Knights to carry them to War, but equally kind and better to get over injuries, hence their long hair on their legs and thicker Manes.
After I had Achmoun, I rescued a Skeleton of a horse, mainly because she needed to be got away from her Dealer Type Owners, when washed and had good nourishing feed and Timothy Meadow Hay, her Colour was pure Gold with white mane and Tail, and found out her Parents were Welsh cross Arabian, she was unrecognisable, and, after I had taught her to accept me to ride
, her, I won some big Shows with her, I am sure she thought I was the lady who fed her Yummy food, and, treated her lovingly, but sensibly. I bumped into her old Owners, and, they did not recognise her, but new my name from winning many Show classes !. I hope that, Sunrise ,my lovely Palomino and myself got through to them, that, if you feed any animal and take great and loving care of them, they will also do the same. If you don't really love ponies and horses, and, only have them to ride and show off to everyone, you should not have these wonderful God given creatures.

If you’re into endurance riding and wry mouths - then Arabian. Otherwise, Quarter Horse every time.
