No, i live in Oregon, USA and they made all drugs legal, it made things so much worse, and homless everywhere laying around the street tweaked out in portland and and crime increased by 50 to 70% when they did it.
You beat me to it. When you permit the lifestyle there are those who will excel at it for good or bad. This is bad. These guys do the drugs in the open on the street. There is NO incentive to keep it in check or to moderate.
Plus it’s completely condoning the use of these drugs which have huge health risks. Bad all around. I know where I live what’s considered a milder drug, marij**na, is legalized but I’m not sure even that is good over the long run.
I knew a former Vice cop from Miami. We shared stories, his far more interesting than mine. For context, I worked for a criminal defense attorney in Rock Hill, SC (not far from Myrtle Beach) back in the late 80s. A lot of our clients were drug runners because they were bringing drugs up the East Coast from Miami and headed to larger cities, New York, for example. Anyway, this retired vice cop was chief of police in a small town in the Upstate of SC and I was a small town municipal court judge. We met at different functions. He used to tell me that he'd lived the lifestyle of the cops on the old show Miami Vice. He said he drove the fast cars, the cigarette boats, etc. He said the BIGGEST difference is that after a shootout when Don Johnson's character was bedding the blonde, he said he'd go home to clean up because being in shootouts had detrimental outcomes on his clothes, at first, I thought that he was talking about blood, he laughed and said "no, I sh*t myself"! I could never watch the reruns of that show, without thinking of Crockett with pants full of sh*t. It explains why they mixed and matched the jackets so freely back then. True story!
The hippos are still there and are breeding. They have no natural enemies in Columbia and are becoming a serious problem for local fishermen. A video on that would be interesting.
You'd love The True Story of Killing Pablo. It's a great 90-min documentary about it. I think it first aired on History Channel but can be found on UA-cam.
I remember seeing all sorts of news coverage about this guy. I was in my teens during this time. But I knew how scary and horrible this guy was. Crazy.
Imagine how many different ways you'd have to find to store that much money. He did store a ton of it in properties but you'd have to put in gold/jewelry/diamonds. Basically every investment you can think of. I remember watching something on Escobar that talked about this exact problem. He had rats eating and nesting in cash he'd stored. Just insane. Lol Wish I had that kind of problem.
They have to keep it illegal because too many jobs rely on it police judges politicians jails / prisons ect They have to fill them up because they get paid that way.
He had told his men that if he ever found himself in a situation like that, he’d shoot himself in the ear, which is in all likelihood what really happened.
From what i understood it was a joint effort between us and the Colombian authorities. Yeah a lot of blood money! I think drug drealers who prey on the weak should get harsh prison sentences.
Have you ever heard of the snowball effect? That’s where a seemingly small change has growing and lasting effect. That is what would happen if you legalized hard drugs. Not one of your better ideas.
I get your point on legalization of substances drying out the demand for drug dealers and taxation leading to increased revenue for the government. I think the one point that you might not understand is we pay for the entire allied world to be safe. We spend trillions of dollars helping every other good country on earth out. We refuse to take foreign aid from our allied countries suck as the UK for example. Point being - you’ve gotta pick and chose your battles. Would you rather pay medical taxes for the person who overdosed on crack in New York. Or would you rather save literally every single countries ass when shit hits the fan? I don’t want to be crass. I love all our allied countries. But at the end of the day there wouldnt be the modern world without the US
Hi Kabir! If he had just quit with a few billion and retired somewhere under a different identity he'd still be alive today. You're right about the "war on drugs", one of Nixon's worst mistakes, and that's saying a lot! There are better alternatives to combating drug abuse than criminalizing it to death. People don't stop using, and you end up imprisoning thousands of people, at considerable expence to the taxpayers. As a former addict, I was never disueded from using by the illegality of drugs, nor was anyone else I knew. They need to take away the monetary incentive to dealing drugs. The prices in the black market are responsible for most of our property crimes, prostitution, and robberies. It would be better to just sell them, tax them and stop putting folks in jail. Sure, some people would fall by the wayside, but that's happening anyway. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Kabir, if you think about it for a second, ol Pablo being broke when he was makes sense. If you have twenty billion dollars, how much can you actually have on you? If you're on the run from the cops all of your bank accounts would be frozen. Your passport would be frozen too. Even if you had it all, in cash, stuffed into your own personal bank vault, you can't get to it when you're being chased.
He had a ton of properties as mentioned in this video. So, he was never going to get a chance to recoup that, which I'd imagine is how he stored the majority of his wealth.
I agree the people that are gonna take drugs are gonna take it. The people that never would take them will never take it. As for Escobar having no money, unless he was the only person who knew where he stashed cash, my guess is that if his men knew it was over, they'd steal it.
Killing Escobar didn’t stop the drug trade, it only made other cartels groups leaders to take his place. I say killing Escobar saved Columbia from a deadly a drug war. But the drug trade is bigger than ever. The Mexican cartels already more powerful and a lot violent than the Colombian cartels from before.
Legalizing those types of drugs is just crazy. That is the dumbest thing Oregon ever did. That state has gone down hill so bad. Legalizing it does not do any good

I work in Portland Oregon where drugs were legalized, it's like hell on earth, you see people ODing in plain sight regularly.
Totally agree with your thoughts on legalization.

My Dad said a guy he knew from highschool ended up being a vice cop in Miami during the 80s. He ended up being dirty and was killed by bad guys.
The hippos are still there and are breeding. They have no natural enemies in Columbia and are becoming a serious problem for local fishermen. A video on that would be interesting.
GOTO Portland where they decriminalize hard drugs and tell me legalizing it works. I don’t think there is a viable solution

If the cartel didnt sell the hard drugs, the governments would. Someones gonna make that money

Idk about legalization, in parts of the US where it's heavily decriminalized or legalized crime and homelessness is a lot more rampant than before.
KABIR true story movie "Blow" about American drug smuggler George Jung staring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz
Involves P Escobar ..
You'll love it !
Narcos was so well done and well-acted that you don't even notice the subtitles.
You think legalizing cocaine is logical? As a former cocaine addict, that is insane.
And all that money was tax free
I don’t think Pablo was the first narco terrorist. I think that title goes to the east India company

Wow the music is super loud and distracting. I know it's not Kabir's fault but damn!
That’s what I was thinking. It was hard to catch what the narrator was saying because his voice seemed to be competing with the music.👀

Most of his money was used in real estate, so to have money he would have to come out of hiding and sell it.
