What if everyone was armed? Obviously by the statistics of gun free zones, shootings would definitely go up if perpetrators knew granny was packin' a 357 magnum. Oh wait. Or maybe they wouldn't. Maybe just maybe... having the same weaponry as a police officer carries would deter criminals from even contemplating the idea of shooting up a school.
We the people, under the 2a, have the right to buy, own, carry, modify, gift, swap, upgrade, etc any type of arms in existence. That was the point. Imagine a terrorist attack with a gunman trying to kill any particular group of people. And then, like every other good-American story where people gleefully flock to help their neighbors (without a second thought), we all bombard that terrorist until he looks like swiss cheese. I have a feeling that 9/11 could have even been somewhat mitigated if we had weaponry onboard. (Obviously theres many complications-one of which being rapid decompression at 30k feet)
And that doesn't even take into account the actual power we would have over our own government. As intended by the founders.

I do believe there are some lines with possession of guns as citizens we shouldn't have. I mean do you really think your neighbor across the street needs to possess a military grade M249 or M32 grenade launcher to protect their home from some burglars?
I'll even use the "it was a different time when the 2nd Amendment was written" argument. It was a different time when it was written, I agree. I don't think the Founding Fathers would've thought guns would be as they are today. So yes, I agree that *MILITARY GRADE* and *AUTOMATIC* (automatic where it can auto fire or 3 round burst) should *NOT* be allowed to the common citizen. Civilian Grade however should not be infringed upon!

Thank you Rep. Roy for explaining the uniqueness of the United States, our 2nd Amendment rights, how our guns are very important at keeping our own government honest. It is indeed an armed American citizenry of 100 million gun owners, who're willing to defend our God given rights to the death, who would indeed keep our government, including our own army "honest". One of the major reasons that contribute to the freedoms that Americans have is: Our 2nd Amendment and the fact that we in the USA have an armed citizenry that limits the power of government. Police funding is a state’s rights and local issue. The federal “government” has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it.
Refuse to accept federal “gifts” of funding for your local police. Eventually there will be a hefty price paid when local police are not sure who they are working for.

Also using HP artillery on your own land (nukes,heavy bombs) u would also loose because their is no reason to be the ruler of ruble. Gun control is not the answer. Investing safety infrastructure in our schools is the answer. Bullet proof glass in schools, metal detectors, video-cameras monitored by safety personnel, automatically locking doors, forced strategic entrances that require a buffer zone or lobby from the outside and the inside of the school until granted access are all methods to ensure safety. Many businesses require key-card access into their buildings as safety measures. Why is that not employed in schools?

I was in South America and a friend was giving us a tour of his new 2 story farmhouse. The door on his 2nd floor mstr bdrm looked like wood until examining it closer. It was a steel security door that was built so good that it could not be broken in or rammed. It had about 8 or 10 steel pins that engaged a steel frame around the door by just turning the key.
It doubtful that a firearm could penetrate this door and even if it did it could not gain entry into the room. The cost at a home improvement chain store was about $350. dollars. If these AFFORDABLE doors were to be installed in schools, it would go a long way towards protecting our children. Why hasn't our CORRUPT government installed these doors decades ago?
