I think that until Audi makes an RS6 sedan, this is just another apples to oranges comparison. Give the S6 all the RS bits and make another review, I think it would be a much better review.
Love it, I had F10 M5 then audi S6, now F90, to be honest Audi S6 not even competitor to M5, maybe rs6…. I love M5, it’s all around better car, reliability, comfort, performance, efficiency, true gentleman’s car!
I bought a C7.5 A6 as opposed to a C7 S6. The S6 has the air suspension which is nice unless it breaks, There was a 35 percent premium to get the three year older S6. I worried a lot about the turbos as they have had issues, and I was worried about the air suspension. I love driving the car, it is spacious and doesn't have a lot of gadgets, bits, buttons and Christmas lights everywhere. Stock rims. S-Line it looks unsuspecting. It does have an upgraded HX, dual pulley, coil packs, Stage 2 tune. I don't have a pedal programmer because the TCU has a tune. I use HP tuners on the car and you can see the current for the solenoids in the transmission are set on kill. If you blip the throttle to move off the line in sport, you will get slammed into the seat. My launch RPM is 3800 with the ZF8. If I had an S6, I would ditch the stock turbos, change the HX and tune the ECU and TCU. You can eliminate the 2 -1 downshift push with the TCU tune. Since I am overdriving the charger and some point you make more heat than the benefit of the power. Same if you are beating up on factory turbos. Someone rightfully called them "heaters" if you run stage 2 because you get diminishing returns.
M5 comp mostly has around 650bhp on a dyno. With just a stage 2 and DP's you get 800bhp. REALLY like mine at stage 2, it's just king of the road feeling.
Any turbo upgrades on the S6? HX/IC? Hpfp? Flex fuel kit? The AWE sounds pretty good. The S6 has LC, too. Pretty similar to the M5. Sport mode, ESC off, hold brake while throttling to 3k...launch.
M5 is better, technology has improved vastly last 10 years. But still the s6 isn’t fair competition unless it’s actual fbo rs6 turbos and or ethanol. Regular pumped gas and stock turbos is still going to keep s6 kinda doggish. I have 1 myself
If you not going to push the m5 above stage 2 they hard to beat. Stage 3 is the whole different animal on the m5, but to push 1000hp you will need to build the engine. While S6 can handle 1000hp without needing to build the engine, the only downside on s6 is the DCT

RS6 Avant is not a hybrid. It has a 48v volt system, but it’s not a hybrid like the new m5 or that you can run on electric power alone.
