I've seen a few videos of the napier and your the first person to build it on the ground and then put it on the bed. Seems like the best way to set up the tent
i was going to say the opposite...the one video i saw, he did a quick and easy set up in the back of the truck... i guess the moral of the story is: practice setting it up before going somewhere to use it...
I like your view. And your call for inner peace. As a retired CRNA 84 gone now from the hectic life of the OR a call to go camping warms my heart. Bless you. Mike
I prefer the truck bed tents without a floor liner, such as Rightline, because there's no need to empty the truck before setup. You can leave your bins and bedding setup and just pitch the tent over top. That being said I like your video, thanks for making it.
Just a heads up, it's Ford that offer the tailgate you mention with the slide out step and fold up handle. Most F150s out here in the UAE have these tailgate. I wish my Silverado had it
I would love to do a solo camping trip but im afraid to do it alone. I've only been camping with family but this right here is on my bucket list for sure.
I picked this tent up at Gander Mountain, use it all GNOME in the field... I have a Chevy Silverado, use a foam mattress to keep the cold out; ?love it...
like previously mentioned, you were the first one I have seen put it together on the ground,, looked alot less painless, and by yourself, will be doing it by myself aswell, good to see,,,
@@DirtRoadReset Thank you,,,this damn thing called work gets in the way,,,,I also got a BEDZ in a bag, for the back,, I heard good things about that, will be awhile yet before I go, but when all said and done, I will do a product review on both, set up camping,,
Liked watching your video. Had to laugh watching you open up the MRE. Only because I’m an old fart. Pre MRE. C rations, now there’s an experience. Enjoy your tent. Can’t wait to see the rest of your videos.
I only have a 5ft bed in my Toyota Tacoma; I ended up going with the Quictent because it give me access to back cab window and it has a canopy over the front entrance.

Great video and review(s)! Loved the message about reaching out to our brothers and sisters who may be struggling! Good stuff! New Subscriber here! Keep up the good work!
Went to Canadian tire and bought two returned them then bought another one. Never used them but I did practice setting up. First time I broke the front strap trying to negotiate around the corner of the Headache rack. Returned it. Then I bought again and this time I broke a rain fly strap and removed it but the kicker is the elastic broke on a corner to corner pole. Returned that. Thought about it so I bought third one and next season I'm going to pull off the Headache rack. So in the end be careful not to be too hard on the straps and poles.Also...buy a 2or 3 foldable step ladder to put up the fly and to get in and out
Survived off MREs more times then I wanted even the dark brown ones. Out of hundreds or thousands I only know of one going bad. Their were approximately 20 of us hiking we all had one in our pack. All of a sudden we could smell a extremely strong dog poop aroma . We were all checking our boots knowing their was no way a dog could have been close to our location. Eventually we located the small coming for one of our packs im so happy it wasn't mine.
10:10 I have a 2014 f150 (same body style as yours) and it has the tailgate step that comes out. Super handy. Also this is a beautiful campsite. Are you near Jerome? I used to live in Flagstaff for a little while but I had to move back to the midwest unfortunately :(
I have to agree with ozzie 305, I bought one of these last year for my short bed Nissan. The first time setting up in the truck bed by myself, if took 15 to 20 minutes. A couple of days later, I did it again, it took 10 minutes. I cannot wait to try building it on the ground. It looks like that will take another 4 or 5 minutes off. P.S. have you checked out the ground tent, that attaches to this truck tent? giving you another, stand up space, connected to the truck tent. My next purchase. Thanks for the video.
Lol...when I first seen you throw it on the ground, I was like, what the heck is he doing. Then about as quick, I thought....YES, that's how its done! I got this tent for Christmas and I do believe, this is the way i'ma gonna do it! Thanx! What's the closest city or town to that area? I think I'd like to check that place out. I'm from Iowa, so it would be a little road trip for me. Thanx again for the set-up tutorial and all around great vid.
I have just purchased this tent for my 2016 F150 and my fiancé and I are excited to try it. Luckily our truck has the “old man step ladder” coming out the tail gate to get in and out 😂
I always carry a sturdy plastic folding step stool in my truck (I need it to reach windshield to clean!). It is small and compact, I was hoping that would be enuf of a step to get in!
Just came across this video & your channel. Nice truck tent & review! We have a roof top tent on our rig. Subbing your channel now, hope to see more videos soon! 🤙 -Josh
First off, GO SUN DEVILS. Did you look at the Rightline brand? I've got a 5x8 utility trailer that I'm going to have sides made for and put one of these type of tents on. Would it be possible to take out the poles and lay the tent in the bed and cover it a tonneau cover? Thanks for the review.
you made it look like a piece of cake. got one of these tents from auction here in Aust. cost me only $25 for a nearly new tent ( tents at auction are customer returns). after struggling for an hour i packed it in its bag and was thinking of selling it. i ll try setting it up on ground first.
The side shelf, perfect for my 12 g, bear buster, i got a Ford, with pull out step, and pull up handle, step no prob, may need keep back strapped losser, as handle about 3 inches uder floor, easier get my old ass to bed at night, i got a bed in bag, with legs, twin, hope she rides high enough to straddle over wheel wells, may need add some wood block risers?
I have the same tent, however I have a long bed truck Ford F150. I ordered the 8 foot bed truck tent, however, none of my polls seem to fit. The only pole that seems to fit is the green one in the middle. The black ones are too long and the one by the tailgate is too long. Both black poles and the gray pole are too long. What am I doing wrong? Richard A
I have thier suv tent and have been very happy with it. Only thing for the price I wish they would have better tent stakes and the zippers were better quality
I guess I just don't understand how you can use that as a shelf with it being enclosed... Great review though, been thinking about getting the stent for a while
If seen folks complaining about the fiberglass poles breaking, especially the one at the tailgate, does your's have fiberglass polls or did they finally upgrade to aluminum, and do you have any problems with the poles breaking or seeming too long for the tent?
Great comment Rick. Mine are also fiberglass, and truth be told, I've wondered how long that tailgate/door pole will last. It's a tight fit, and I'm certain some day it will break. Might be a few years from now, but it'll happen
@@DirtRoadReset yeah i've seen a few folks complaining about that as being a point of failure, hopefully designers will address it. Thanks for the comment.
I've been researching this tent for awhile now. This is the first I'm hearing about this possible problem. I wonder, How is their Customer Service? Do they replace them if they break? Anyone know of someone who's has this experience?
yep my door archway pole broke on my 2nd camping trip with the tent. it seemed too long from the start, like it was over-stressing the seams and door zippers. Napier replaced it without a hassle. i trimmed about 3” off the replacement and it works fine but i keep it in the bag as a spare. i prefer aluminum poles so i ordered a custom kit and made one thats 142”.
I really liked that you set it up first on the ground and then on the truck. Never saw it done like that before. How much is the weight? Also, I liked your idea of putting a cot instead of sleeping directly on the truck bed. Seems more comfortable. Lastly, Where you bought the MREs? Thanks
Hi I just bought one of these tents, and in watching your video I see you have a cot in it. You said it was a Coleman cot, and I was wondering what model it was that fits over the wheel wells?
like your tent back of the truck and would like to taste the MRE food package...can be ordered at Amazon..price...wow taste good...enjoys your camping..greetings from Sarawak..Malaysian Borneo...🇲🇾🇲🇾
I was shopping for one of these but I saw they were out-of-stock for my model truck. Another brand is available but it wasn’t exactly what I want.... Somebody else is using that little instrumental. Down in Florida heat and ventilation is the problem. I just want to try camping before I invest in a towed camper.

How do the truck tents without a floor do with keeping out the wind rain and bugs?
Thanks for the video! Just ordered the eight ft Napier Backroads tent. I have the F150 with step and grab handle so good to know I’m golden lol.

Good stuff brother!! Nothing beats camping, fishin, outdoors, solitude.....MREs are good but I like the freeze dried route a little better
