I grew up in Aotearoa as a British immigrant child. His korero is perfectly aligned to British whakapapa. Marariki is in tune with beliefs of tangata whenua the world over. I’m sooo grateful to Māoritanga for its influence on my life. Indigenous British culture has been beaten down by religion, but by speaking to many elders, one can find that the truth has survived.

Especially appreciate the "genealogical connection" to nature! Not just vaguely "connected," but truly as family.

Hey, algud if you believe maori to have all those gods. But if you we're wrong. I know nothing of maori ways and tradition. But you seem to think that maori is sovereignty, in that way that they are considers keepers of this land. I acknowledge that maori are spiritual people, your point of view, as far as I'm concern, dishonour us as maori. One thing you forget maori are not alone in this world. It is so sad, to hear people of any culture, singling themselves out from the rest, that they consider themselves better than others just because of their belief and tradition. You seem like an educated man, and you bring forth your words with much care and observation. But what you are saying, is it the truth? Do you speak word of truth? There is a lot of people out here, who has had enough of been lied to. You sound like a wise man, tell us something that will benefit all not just maori.....

It's possible that all indigenous pagan religions began as metaphors for explaining the phenomena found in nature and the need to make use of it in a way that benefits everyone. Eventually, the people recognized their dependence on nature and began to venerate it. Even in modern-day civilization in which our immediate dependence is on other human beings (thanks to that tool of exchange known as money), we all ultimately depend on nature.

Well said hananokuni2580, but not all have that same frame of mind as you would comment when dependency is involve or nature be the motivator, not all think that way, ultimately dependent on nature is only but a small minor part in our dependency as Māori, these days its different, nature is not what Māori's are looking for or to depend on because nature as we know it is being sold to the highest bidder and its not Māori's. Got a couple of million dollars lying around I could borrow i wouldn't mind abit nature to myself and my WA'nau, lol.....?????

@Hippynz + Epochbelief: this guy is talking 'a' truth, and 'a' Maori truth at - but as you SHOULD be aware, becos you purport to be smart, in all societies, there not diverse views, including those who can't be bothered - we are as guilty as having those people as you guys are; and if you want to talk about cultural reinvention, try the neo-conservatives and the war on Iraq; or the Banking sector and the recent world recession. That's your culture; maybe, just maybe you should work on that!
