    Great review! Thank you for sharing the information. I haven't seen many good reviews of the Joby mics.

    I just picked up the Wavo mobile on sale at Amazon for $29 and I can say I happy with the quality and the $50 saving over the Rode. Maybe in the future, when I do more videos, I will upgrade. Good comparison video!

      Thank you. Yeah its definitely a better deal. I saw another one that seemed generic but looked the same for about the same price as what you paid. The differences between the two mics are so little, saving the money always makes more sense to me.

    I haven't done this type of 1:1 comparison, but I do like my VideoMicro. It's been my go-to for getting ambient car sound on track with very little intrusive wind flutter (still have to position correctly). Any time it's not convenient to use a lav mic it's what I use for vlogging as well.

      Yeah I think I’ll stick to a LAV mic just off camera when I’m in the studio and the videomicro when I’m out and about.

    Can hear the odd buzz in some clips from both microphones

      They are both budget friendly mics still at the end of the day. I didn’t go very much post processing which can clean up most of the mic hiss.

    Umm still confused with the difference between the two. Would be nice if you can have the same footage for the two different mics.

      I don’t understand what you mean. I did the same exact test with both mics. Garage, outdoors, driving in the car. The Rode VideoMicro is significantly better than the Joby Mini.

    Is it recorded with a smartphone? If yes, can you share what smartphone that is? I got the mic, but I'm also looking for a new phone (I have moto g5 plus, I bought it 4 years ago) and hope to find one that works with joby mic without extra apps etc..

    the more i do research the more i think i just need to upgrade my phone and wait on vlogging equipment. i personally dont feel the difference is that noticable outside, inside a bit more but not much

      Yeah it’s more noticeable when you drop it into editing software like Adobe Audition. For pure vlogs with little to no sound editing, it’s kind of a wash depending on where you’re doing it. Listening to the audio, unassisted by video, it’s more apparent.

      @@HardParking you mean this review's audio was first edited by Adobe Audition or some other professional audio editing tool? That would explain a lot! Because I've got the Joby Wavo right here and it doesn't sound anything like your review at all. My phone is a perfectly fine Pixel-3XL. I'm really disappointed that I can't find anything that sounds decent with my phone. This isn't even loud enough. It sounds very faint and I gotta make the phone louder to hear it. Your review makes it sound much much better!

      @@RezaRob3 Thanks for checking the video out. The video ultimately was edited by Adobe Audition and Adobe Premiere Pro. However, when it came to the mic to mic comparisons, I only used Audition for the mandatory things (fixing verbal screwups, ensuring the output audio was equal among both samples (rode/joby) sometimes all three (rode/joby/iphone native). I use Filmic Pro app on my phone to capture the video and in that app, I have the mic gain slider lower to avoid audio clipping (when you see the audio wave smash against red when speaking). You never want that if possible. As a result, it ends up recording at a softer volume, and I use Audition to raise it back up, making sure the audio doesn't clip which is the distorted sound you find when listening to audio people haven't taken the right steps to properly edit. In the end, both mics received the same basic steps I would do when editing for a vlog or other video. In a non comparison video, I would have taken some additional steps as I did in the beginning and conclusion of this video where I used a different mic to capture audio (since these were on my desk in front of me).

    • @RezaRob3

      @@HardParking thanks for your reply. I have two questions. First, when you say "ensuring the output audio was equal among both samples," I don't know what you mean by that, I suppose that's precisely what you don't want to do, so that we can see the difference between them. So maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
      But my second, more important question, is that when you reduce gain, and then boost it back up in Audition, wouldn't you get a "hissing" or "wind" sound? I'm getting that hissing sound even without playing with the gain factor. How do you deal with that? I'm assuming you edit that hissing noise in Audition, is that right?

    • @RezaRob3
      @RezaRob3 3 роки тому

      And having said that, I guess what I really need to know is whether spending on more professional hardware will give better sound quality out of the box, and without editing?
      To be honest, I didn't really see a big difference between the two mics that you compared. That's why it might be better to compare these things without editing. That's the kind of comparison that I was really looking for, but I think what you're telling me is that for good quality, professional editing software is a must.

    If you are going to be in your car, use the RODE SMARTLAV+. Those mics are useless in the car or wind. Lavalier is the way to go, bud. :)

    • @HardParking
      @HardParking  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah I don’t use the Joby at all, and the Rode in rare instances. If I really want to record audio to use in post processing, it’s always a LAV into an external recorder. If I’m doing social media live on the go, or something super quick, I’ll either not use anything or I’ll use the Rode.
