The Vostroyan Firsborn:
Speciality: Urban and Winter Warfare
Overview:
Vostroya is a world in the Halo Zone beyond the Eye of Terror, which swore allegiance to Mars during the Age of Strife. It is now ruled by a committee of Techtriarchs, a mix of Mechanicus Magos and more traditional Imperial planetary government. During the Horus Heresy, Vostroya refused to provide regiments to the Emperor, preferring instead to reserve the population in the manufactorium blanketing the world. After the Heresy came to an end the Vostroyans agreed to supply every first born son to service with the Imperial Guard.
Whereas the Tanith First-and-only defeat their enemies with bagpipes, the Vostroyan Firstborn channel the powers of the Emperor through their Cossack hats and moustaches.
I think they have a marketing plot going on... "Join the Vostroyan today, and get your free mousatche!

The reason the Vostroyan Firstborn are my personal favorite is because they care about their sons and actually resupply there regiments and don't let them die out and in the book rebel winter they even have men playing instruments and such and they really do hold to their heritage and their armor and lasguns are also pretty bad ass as well

You guys should read "rebel winter" It's about the life of an Imperial Guardsman is harsh and short. On the snowy wastes of Danik's World, a regiment of Vostroyans is ordered to hold their ground to protect the retreat of other Imperial forces. When their own orders come to move back, they discover they have been stranded behind enemy lines. Cold, hungry and running out of supplies, trapped between rebel forces and hordes of orks, can the Guardsmen ever fight their way back to safety?

These guys are Cossack's. Old Russian nomads famous for kicking ass and defeating empires, but the Valhallen's are indeed the WW2 era Red Army.

For example decent visual person who put a dislike in this music expect the person to follow because there's no lyrics to it and although demonstrating is a person's face face of a misery but they are trying to complete over individual person and it's better than that person to fight all the walls what they're processing towards the individual person's mentality so they're processing the number 16 expecting dislike on this video but I generally do not want to be paying attention to the information which is being processed the music is quite extraordinary

Vostroyan british queen guards valhallens red army
They are drawn from Moscow guard of 16 century and cossacks, and some cyborg elements

Vostroyans are hands down the coolest regiment of Imperial Guard out there, followed closely by the Death K(C?)orps of Krieg
There needs to be some kind of tribute to the Vostroyans to the song "Russian Dancing Men" by Weebl.

@ManulMagnificus actually, vostroyans them selves [facial features, skin tone, and other things of course] would highly push towards a French Old Gaurd theme, of course with some russian based influences. At least that's what it would appear to me. to each their own

Come to think of it, The Armor of Vostroyans match those in descriptions of Prosperine Spireguard of the Thousand Sons minus the helmets. Maybe an idea to make Conversions with them?
I would say more of a mongol influence, but it is pretty easy to make an imperial guard samurai theme custom
@Nobody2591 Well, there are too many regiments to list in one comment. The Valhallan Ice Warriors, for example, are based on the Red Army during World War 2. Some of them have no ties to real world at all, like the Elysians.

Spetsnaz? Google image search 'Spetsnaz', and then 'Cossack', and as you scroll through the various images, think which ones look more like the Vostroyans.
@MikoMKS Of course they look similar, many armies copied the cossack´s uniform pattern.
with out beard they just simple guards but with it they bearded might of Imperium

@derricksherps Actually no. The greatcoat is similar to the German one, their ornamental helmet is French style, and finally the word Krieg, which means war in German.
Hows this, were both right. I was looking at uniform and armament, If have to say most imperial guard regiments are similar to the red army in tactics, however WW1 Romanians used large bayonets, ornamentally designed swords for officers, and similar helms/hats.
@DefectedHuman Thats actually very possible lol, say, a space marine chapter that has spent so long fighting the Tau they have adopted Samurai like traits from the campaigns?

Well, Cadians are visually based on the US. The DKoK on the other hand, have visual cues of French and Imperial German troops of WWI.

As the right hand drive tanks, i think vostroyan is more like early British Army.
@BlackTemplar43 Actually, I think Cadians are influenced by WW2 Allies, while the Elysians are closer to modern RL military.

The Firstborn are, to my knowledge, the only Imperial Guard regiment who issue Carapace Armour to regular guardsmen. Couple that with them being Russians in space with a proper mustache to match their woodstock lasguns and you have an instant win.

But this actually fits the Vostroyan well.

@DeathByCoco Actually, I agree with you, however, the design of their headdress look more akin to the ushukuya fur hats than the french shakos worn during the Napoleonic-era. With the vostroyan's history, I guess it would be the fur hats due to their climate. Also, not to mention the cossack-looking standard bearer, which practically shouts out "nomad".

If i remeber correctly the Tallarn are actually based on the British army in north africa during WW2. Expertise in fast moving armoured warfare...7th army desert rats inspiration much alongside certain arab elements granted...
@sapinou96 Yes. Their clothing and headdresses refer to the Arabic cultures and the huge amount of battle tanks in their regiment refers to the desert rats, as do their hit-and-run tactics.

Indeed she is a woman. Vostroyan men have the custom to grow fancy moustaches and beards and they are very fond of them. The whole culture thinks that men who do not grow beards are somehow effeminate thus the Vostroyans usually joke about the other regiments who have clean shaven guardsmen and enforce this rule. It somehow goes with the whole concept of the Vostroyans as a trubute to the tzarist cossacks who had a similar rule, same can be said for the Streltzi unit which this guardsmen portray

@armeggeon I read about them on LEXICANUM. They are based apon the Tzarist Russian Soldiers before the communist rebelion.But Valhalan Guardsman were based upon the soviet troops. and Krieg Troops upon german ww1 troops and so on...

Well, tbh the White Scars are heavily based on Mongolians as opposed to Japanese. I think it would be pretty cool to see how the Codex Astartes and Bushido mix together
