I think a few strategies to make those aid requests easier to win would be: 1.) Declare war (on Russia for example) and then drag as many people as possible into the war so they lose score and also have less ability to contribute to the aid request. 2.) Use your scouts to find as many commercial hubs as possible and try to steal all the gold from the people receiving it so you can then give that same gold back to them 3.) Eliminate the top competitors...
Fair play to Ursa for not doing the gpt/upfront gold trade/war exploit. It's on par with the "AI will pay to go in on a joint war" exploit. Technically a part of the game but not in the spirit of the game. If diplo is the win condition, and aid requests is the way to win it, then the only way I can see getting the huge amounts needed is pillage. Scan the coasts for the most targets and naval raid then declare peace, repeat as needed. As Ursa unlocks bombers and jets I think he's going to have to start a domination run as well, just to knock out some civs and start a late game resource snowball. At the very least taking out the front-runners for diplo and maybe religious victory, but there's likely to be some science victories threatening as well.
Just to clarify, I could never win at this level, but just from observing your games, I think that diplo victory on this level and with RHAI is actually more difficult than science victory and you're blundering here going off the base Civ VI experience where winning diplo is probably the easiest. You are still not thaaat far behind tech-wise despite putting almost entire economy into aid projects, if those resources were utilized for science and industry then you might have caught up with AI on that front.
Seeing the all in on diplomatic victory front hurts, all that money couldve been spent on an army...that couldve been sent on brazil or Maya maybe even Indonesia. Frigates, bombards + Line infantry or Curaissers. Yeah the bonuses to combat is harsh but i still think youd win...
100%. The insane focus on winning the aid requests that were unwinnable was frustrating to watch. Like jack up your entire economy for a futile effort. Gotta war your way out of it and get additional infrastructure
He always does war though. I kinda like the effort to try something different. Maybe he can post a save file so you can try doing the war thing? Might be worth an ask!
With Arctic cities, I try to chain together preserves from one city to the next to help the later ones start with more resources(city centers benefit from preserves)

To be honest. I’d be very curious to see you go domination after the first round of aid succeed. It’s very clear that Russia is a threat, but it’s also clear that you’re not achieving a lot in trying to fight him there. Maybe getting more land is the key.
I'm somewhat curious how competitive you would have been on science if you put all that production into Campus research grants instead of aid requests.
I wonder if you could exchange gold for gpt, then right before the end of the aid request exchange it back for gold. You might be able to get interest on that loan.

Whoever said that War was the biggest money laundering scheme never saw the Aid Request meta in Civ6 with 50+ civs.
