Biggest thing I hate about the trend, is that they promote for lower class women to rely fully on someone else’s money and not working. But these women technically have a job or cone from a wealthy family, it’s like a pyramid scheme, they are making money off promoting you to lose money

What is so funny about the submit to your husband thing is, that yes, Paul writes in the bible "Women should submit to their husbands" BUT the very next line is "Also, husbands should submit to their wives." That her body is his, but also: HIS body is hers and he has to do his duty to her. That kind of conveniently gets left out a lot. When Paul wrote this, women already had to submit, that was the societal rule. It was absolutly revolutionary that the same goes for the husband and that his wife owns him, too.

As a recently graduated 23 year old who was raised by a trad wife, the toughness of entering adulthood made me fantasize about this lifestyle but seeing the reality of my mothers life post divorce in her 50’ really brings into perspective that there’s nothing worse than being dependent on another person. There’s actually a Brazilian tiktoker who went viral after doing “trophy wife” content but after she started making money on TikTok she outright talked about the importance of having her own income and shifting her content to talk more about independence

But for gen z, as teenagers we saw the rise of the girl boss and as we get to be adults in a different economy and social structure, it feels very enticing to leave all of the difficult decision making behind and fit into the old fashioned gender roles, but it’s not as simple as that.

I am opposite than you. All my life I was watching my mother going to her full time job AND doing majority of housework because my father worked longer hours. My mother had to make almost all decisions herself, manage budget, plan everything, etc. She used to tell (she still does...) how important it is for woman to have her own money... I went to study IT just to have job that pays me well and I don't have to struggle with money like my parents did.

Making middle class housewifery appear glamorous is a full time job. These women are not cleaning and cooking every day. They are prepping, filming, editing and emailing all day long. The big accounts have an entire team of employees and are multi-millionaires. Actual middle class housewives are way too busy to be influencers. Being a housewife is a valid choice and many women are happy with their lives as homemakers. But it’s not better than anything else. And nobody should be making that choice under false pretenses.

I'm a homemaker and stay home and take care of the house and our 4 kids while my husband works. When we got together we agreed a be a stay at home wife and mom. We are technically not middle class but working class poor even though we have everything we need and do not lack for essentials. For us our choice for me to stay home instead of work was not based on money but on our shared religious values. But my values are not every women's values so I definitely don't judge anyone for different lifestyle and values. I think supporting each other as women and not trying to feel superior to other women is very important.

I've always supported women's right to choose, if someone wants to be a stay t home mother/wife I think the magic of feminism is to be able to choose that life and not it being imposed to you. However, I also think that many woomen who choose this are influenced by their own upbringing and the patriarchy in their culture, telling them it is something that is more "correct" or that it is a woman's role. Usually leaving out of the picture all the uglyness that trad wifes in the 20th century had to suffer because of it. The lonelyness, the abuse, the inability to do anything alone. The endless hours of unpaid labor and to top it all, husbands leaving them for a younger woman, and the children leaving when they are all grown up and suddenly you find yourself living alone, with a distant husband, an empty house, no work experience, no way to earn money... many trad wifes ended upt being alcoholics iin their 40s and 50s because of all the sad days and depression they had. It wasnt all sunshine and rainbows, it was difficult.
I think that before choosing something like this, people need to know what it involes, all the good, the bad and the future possible outcomes.

I’ve been a stay at home mom for many years but I would never ever say I’m a trad wife. There’s a lot to say about this, but my main beef is that creating content is so pervasive that it appears as natural as breathing, but in reality it’s constant work to prepare and preform for the trad wife aesthetic and hashtag. And I can’t believe that the public is falling for it. These are not moms in the wild being documented by a neutral third party undercover cameraman. This is extremely intentional curation and performance. it’s freaking work, it can be as much work as a job outside the house. I’m not talking about mom-ing being legitimate labor (albeit unpaid), which it is, but content creation. I’ve know a few mommy bloggers and they wrote off a lot of expenses for their IG and blog businesses and these tiktokers are no different.

Life has no guarantees whether you choose a college education & career or becoming a stay at home wife. There are women in their 40s & 50s though they have achieved career success are miserable because they were never married & don’t have kids. There are women who wished they had careers now that their marriages have failed. A career is just a means of earning money which is important. People can start new careers in their 40s & rebuild themselves. Marriage is from God & you are blessed to become a wife go for it. Don’t be too preoccupied with the possibility of the marriage failing & should you divorce know it’s not the end of the world. You can still find love & marry again. I'm with the tradwives. My wife and I have lived this way for 16 years now (13 with a son) and we're both very glad we did. And while people are naturally going to make things look better when recording a video (that's true of everyone, not just tradwives), I think it's great that so many of them are taking pride in their lifestyle to the point of sharing it on social media.
As for whether you can be a traditional wife and social media influencer at the same time, this really comes down to how much time you're spending on the latter. If nothing is hindering your role of taking care of the home and any kids you may have, then there's no issue, same as how a traditional husband might cook or clean on occasion.

They also talk about the fact that most of them are making more money than their husbands and are the current breadwinners, so much so that one of them is paying for their husband to go to medical school and not work. And it’s just interesting because they do this and are like this but they are technically trad wives although they never refer to themselves like that. They seem to have a traditional 1950’s family structure and dynamic bc they are still Mormon, but they are clear about the fact that they still are influencers who make money and could be independent of their husbands

I’m so grateful to my working mom for showing me that anything is possible. My dad paid for my mom to finish college because he believed education and employment for women is the actual key to creating “generational wealth”. I went to college, my girls are in college. The funny part of this content, is that, from the 1960’s to the early 2000’s, we saw women becoming more powerful, educated, employed and actualized. Now, the women who benefited the most from the struggles of their foremothers are telling their peers to forget all of that and just “be a stay at home mom”. Before you do it call your grandmother and aunties. They’ll scare you back to a 9-5. 😂

@babygirlt8938 gratitude it's not easy but it can be done. I was almost tricked by my ex to leave the military once I got married and the future looked bleek for me so I stayed in until my time was done, and for that I'm an so glad my spirit led me to do so.

No one is responsible for your financial well being for the rest of your life except yourself. Making yourself completely dependent on a partner comes with huge risks. If you grew up in certain communities, abusive relationships or have certain disabilities that makes you dependent on another, that is a whole different ballgame from women who have options and privileges to take care of themselves, but then choose to make themselves dependent of another. I have sympathy for the first group, but none for the second group. You're a grown woman and choices have consequences. If you, as a fully actualized grown woman with options of studying and getting jobs, choose to reject this all and not make sure you have some other financial back up plan in place, then don't whine on the internet about how tough your life is if it doesn't turn out as expected. You accepted that risk. The only true victims are your kids because you gambled with their futures too.

Thanks for your watching! 😊 Kids often suffer in these dynamics and it’s rarely talked about or considered. If their mom suffers it hurts them and their mental health and if their dad “moves on” then they suffer parental and financial neglect, it’s such an overall gamble if you don’t have wealth to fall back on
