haha that mullet on iafrate deserves a trophy of its own
its a skullet
John Villano did you get that name from BarDown?
heard it somewhere...not jacob and olly though
He would've been about 27 in 93 too. Damn..
Thats a good old fasion wood stick
Imagine what Iafrate could achieve with one of today's modern haircuts.
A “modern haircut” doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t have hair...
I think Iafrate's strength works pretty much like Sampson's from the Bible. If his hair were to be cut, all of his strength would be gone.
Even after all these years Iafrate still has the hardest hair.
Hardest shot too, put a wood stick in Chara's and Weber's hands and Iafrate still have the record. He would have make 110 mph with a one piece stick, no doubt possible.
Dude would of crushed chara
@@michellegao8372 and Chara always played with an illegal stick for anybody else because of his height. So Iafrate all the way! Lol
I can feel the boomer energy radiating in this comments section...
Chara could make even a blind person sitting right behind the goal flinch.
Do to his hygene.
I bet he could too.
Interesting fact: Sergei Fedorov is the ONLY player in an NHL All-Star game ever to win BOTH hardest shot & fastest skater competitions 🔥
Mx, didn’t Iafratte win both too.
Wayne Thera I looked Iafrate’s stats and such up on Wikipedia and it says he only won Hardest Shot. Still crazy tho!
Mx, thanks for the update. Way too long ago for this old guy to remember.
Legendary
Should be a Bobby Hull award for that
The Chara vs Weber hardest shot competition was the best part as a young kid back in the days. Maaaan, did I wait every year to watch Big Z absolutely blast those pucks.
This was one of the best things to happen to the NHL this century
Iafrate hit 105 with a wooden stick, imagine what he could do with the sticks we have now
right? with chara's stick i'm guessing near 110
Break them, just like MacInnis did :(
They would break before they get to that point lol. They were using woodies, stronger sticks.
The guns probably weren’t as accurate tbh
110 for sure
I miss the old Weber v Chara matchup
2015 Weber got soo close
I know right
Aidan11 O’Brien same
-_-
Webber and Petterson are really impressive given their shot speed to body weight ratio. Crazy athleticism
That skullet is incredible
I am a simple man. I see Sergei Fedorov on the thumbnail, I click on it and watch the video
Ha ha same.
yes his brother owns my hockey rink. good college choice too.
Best russian born player ever
@@MegaJiiRo nope
@@janoycresva9961 actually yep
Chara kept breaking his own record that they had to go "Alright pal, you're done"
Imagine if Macinnis and Iafrate had played with modern sticks.
BenRangel the boards, nets, and defenders wouldn’t stand a chance
It would have helped. But the new sticks aren't much better in performance, but they are more dependable and breaks less.
It adds about 3-5 mph.
@@commandershepard1838
Man thank you, the difference isn't 10 mph like they claim.
120 mph probably
Elias pettersson might be the smallest player in history to hit over 100mph
Martin Frk is +- 3 cm lower than Pettersson and his shot was more than 109 I think.
When Peterson puts on 10 more pounds he’s gonna win hardest shot for sure
Lightest player for sure
That was crazy! You definitely can't tell a book by its cover, as the saying goes. Strength, technique, and as he ages and puts on a few pounds, his shot will get even harder.
He's 6'3 so not the smallest. The lightest for sure though.
It’s weird seeing how in the beginning people were amazed by a 100 mile per hour shot, and by the end they are used to it.
Stick tech.
its pretty much expected now
Even in a highlights video posted by the NHL, Pierre still finds a way to talk about random stuff no one cares about.
There was an article I read on Al Macinnis and his cannon. It talked about one situation where he just cleared it out of the zone and it clipped the back of a guys leg. Nearly ended that mans career. Al Macinnis was scary.
i am expecting at least 5 Chara shots in this video
Let’s go pettersson
I was at the 2012 skills competition with my dad. What an amazing year that was. I wish they would bring back the East vs West and scrap the way it is now.
same.
Lucky 🇨🇦
can you imagine chara and weber on same team as a pair?? one from left side other from right side, lots of broken bones my friends
turarosicky Since 33 make a 6?
dude now that would be terrifying for the goalies they would play against
@Absantial the hybrid put Ovi on the one-timer on the 1st power play... Yikes. And then you put Martin Frk on the 2nd... ooh, that's a LOT of broken bones.
Dang... Chara shot the puck so hard that as soon as he made contact with the puck I got an ad.
Lol
I love how elias pettersson made this list haha. what a boss.
10:40 you can see the tkachuks
*how fast do you want you slapshots to be*
Chara *YES*
Weber: Hold my beer
@@NODAK9 Chara: no..... proceeds to break the record
Martin frk : hold my beer
@@oliviawu7625 Chara: yes sir
@@oliviawu7625 I think he was more like: Hey boys! How is it goin in NHL? Greetings Frrrrrrrrrrk.
charas 108.8 real over shadowed the fact that weber got 108.5 holy
But Chara’s slapshot is 0.3 MPH faster than Weber’s slapshot.
I miss the old NHL.
I would love to see a wrist shot version of this. You wouldn't get the top velocity, but it would be cool to see just how fast someone like Kessel or Crosby can whip it without any wind up.
So Fedorov was the fastest skater in the league and had the hardest shot....he was something else.
Muscle weight to puck speed... Elias Pettersson scored 139.6 mph.
Petterson was surprising. Also they didn’t show Macinnins still hitting over 100 at 2020 all star game at Al Bundy age
21:05 who would of thought at this point these two would be traded for each other.
Loved when Al Iafrate was the feared stick. GREAT hair to boot!!!
NHL, get ready for Martin Frk. (109.2 mph)
He'll have to actually make it to the All-star comp first though. Plenty of other players on the NHL teams all-star comps hit over 100, most just aren't good enough to make it to the NHL all-star game.
Ah yes, the Chara and Weber show. Nice to see Pettersson get one in at the end. Perhaps we'll see more of that in years to come. =)
Prophet
All the players looked so hold back then, it's definitly a young person game now.
I wasn’t sure if it was just me. I’m a canucks fan by virtue of hometown. I remember the early 2000s guys seemed a bit older than I was at the time like Morrison bertuzzi naslund and they actually were a little. The 2011 cup run seemed my age I googled their ages and it turned out I was correct. Now they’re all younger.
90s NHL was the best skill hits defence fighting goaltending good times for sports
@Ronald Molina lol
You should have put Martin Frk anyway because he hit 109.2 mph
*Al Iafrate*
Business up front
Grandpa up top
Party in the back
The 90's were awesome. I'd give anything to go back to those days. .
I have a feeling from here on out the world is just going to get uglier and uglier.
Agreed.. That's why 7 years ago i went back and stayed..
*It started with me missing early 90's music..
Then i missed my skateboarding days of early 90's
But the 90's NHL& all sports rosters were AWESOME..
I even put a couple 12" in the trunk at 47 years old..
Wife is just like "ok honey,,you go have fun and be home by 7"
I loved watched the two Al's launching those rocket pucks back in the day :)
How stiff do you want your stick to be?
Chara: yes
I miss these all star skills.. legends
Guys looked so old meanwhile they're like 24...lol
Wheres Happy Gilmore?
Federov had fantastic English.
He tried really hard to learn. He immersed himself in american culture pretty much as soon as he got here. Plus he’d already lived in America 15+ years at that point
@@Adri_Unsung he loves American life.
Imagine losing with a 106.
Cool I love the flash backs
Imagine what Weber could with Iafrate's haircut.
In most things, I try to be as impartial and unbiased as is humanly possible. I think I’m doing the same thing here, but as a Nova Scotian I can never truly know how objective this judgement is: Al McInnis is, was and ever shall be the master of the slapshot. The form, accuracy, power, terror and consistency are unrivalled. Every slapshot after him has been anticlimax. God put him on Earth during the era of wooden sticks because He thought it was purer and he didn’t want to see a man die on the ice.
Wow best video, So interesting.
Thanks...
Christ, I miss the ninteties I forgot Al Ifrate and his bald spot
Marty frk in the AHL was astounding
0:50 that hair
Good Timezz
Tough hair line
105.2 from Lafrate! I think Ovechkin got 102 as his best.
"Who has a better life than Sergei" lol
This is what I love to see!
God, I miss NHL!
I love the commentators reactions
Am I the only one that isn't seeing any harder shots with the composite stick over wooden? Seems like people just want to say its harder, but the radar gun doesn't lie. Chara and Webber were the only freaks.
Iafrate definitely hits 110 with modern day sticks.
I'm confused how frames per second are added to old video footage.
If somethings recorded at a standard definition 25fps. How are these extra frames manifesting?
Pretty sure they make some frame double
Mike Modano looks like the dude that played Napoleon Dynamite
honestly, shea weber impresses me far more than chara. Chara's stick is a huge advantage
Weber>chara
Don't skip the ads, the national needs all the revenue they can get
0:45 I'm more impressed by the hairline than the shot...
0:42 Thorne’s reaction is still the best
Chara and Weber are the gods of this contest. The rest are but children compared to them
I know, right? Iafrate such a pansy using a 2 x 4 to go over 105mph.
Pretty good compilation but more ads than years covered here
I have a 68mph slapshot at 12yrs old . When I get drafted in 2026 I will win this competition.
Modano with a mullet? Never seen it
Imagine if they played games without helmets. Feels so much more personal when you can see their hairdos.
BOOM! BOOM! Iafrate baby!
Still miss ya in Leafland bud 👍👍
love this. scary af but great. all star game was good till 2016
Wow I totally forgot Weber hit 108. I wish Weber and Chara can 1v1 one last time. It was exciting when they competed.
There's a guy behind the net with a radar gun...ballsy...
All the NHL goalies watching this
I honestly think they should do one timers . I think they could get higher speeds .
Pierre From Wii Sports
I think they got it right, they do it this way for a reason. they’re about 30 feet out and skate into the puck at full speed, that’s a lot of force.
Umm, where's Al Macinnis right after him? He smashed over 100 MPH in the 2020 comp with an old wooden twig!
25:58 mood
It’s a great feeling to hit over 100+ you get that rush.
Love hearing Gary Thorne, especially since the O’s aren’t playing.
They interviewed chara on the stairs so he could fit in the shot
As a Canucks fan, it was a mix of joy and cringe upon seeing Gerald Diduck
it doesn't matter if you had a mullet or loose your hair on the top, if you shoot the puck at 105 mph, you're a hockey god
Who was just expecting Al MacInnis montage
who wasn't
Everyone gangsta till Chara goes for a slapshot
I feel bad for Weber, he was consistently second but still much above the rest of the competition. He always gets whatever chara just beat
Atta boy petey
I miss the blue pain along the boards and even the bluer shade of ice itself.
Martin Frk recently beat Chara's record by hitting at 109 Mph
Anonymous Anonymous to bad the griffins didn’t keep him :(
That was in the ahl
They had the puck closer to the net, it doesn't count.
David That makes absolutely no sense.
Would you care about someone hitting a record number of home runs in minor league baseball?
New stick or old stick doesn't change a lot for a slapshot.
Almost everything is in the stick flexibility. 130 flex on wood stick or carbon stick is the same. It take the same quantity of weight, strenght to curve it.
The difference only gonna be the weight. And when you are use to one at some point it doesnt change lots of thing.
Yeah but wooden sticks are solid all the way through, so therefore they would have to have less flex. In comparison to something that's hollow.
who is the Vancouver player at 00:36 standing between Roenick and Modano?
Gerald Diduck.
The old announcers reminded me of the dunk contest with how excited they got.
Idc what any of the stats are, Weber has the best shot
This was cool.
I didn't remember Lecavalier had a bullet
What would you rather be hit by? One of these pucks, or a MLB 100+ mph fastball?
Puck, in goalie gear.
@@Saskatchetooner You know what? Good answer.
Rotational inertia of the ball and being 20 grams lighter I’m gonna go with baseball.
No one had the hardest shot than Mr. MacInnis
THE 1990's~BEST NHL SUPERSTAR ERA EVER!!
Something I learned today, if your name is Al, youve got a hard slapshot
How special is that the Hardest shot final Subban vs Weber in 2016 in Nashville... the year after we all know what shocked the hockey world
