46100 Royal Scot heads through Kent on 'The Golden Arrow' - 30.03.24

Making only her second visit to Kent, 46100 Royal Scot took charge of the Easter Saturday Saphos Trains ‘Golden Arrow’ excursion to Canterbury West in glorious sunshine.
The train would start at Poole under diesel power and travel to Hanwell via Basingstoke & Reading to attach Royal Scot. From there Royal Scot would haul the train via Kensington & Balham to eventually reach Tonbridge and proceed onward to Canterbury for a 2 and half hour break. The train would then head back to Tonbridge via Dover, before heading via Sevenoaks, Bromley and Brixton back to Hanwell, where diesel would regain control for the run back to Poole.
Starting out at Wandsworth Common, Royal Scot puts the power down as she begins the ascent into Balham, before having to ease back due to a double yellow signal. Moving into Kent the next shot comes from Chartham at the foot crossing on Bolts Hill. Following the break in Canterbury Royal Scot is next captured from Sturry station as she gets the train away from Canterbury. Finally, and 20 minutes later than expected, with the light drastically fading, the train is captured tackling the bank at Hildenborough, where Royal Scot gives a performance that made the longer wait all the more worthwhile.

Brilliant footage Thomas. I saw her at Martin Mill yesterday, plenty of exhaust noise and the 47 as quiet as a mouse.
