excellent tutorial. I followed your instruction step by step and successfully replaced the screen. The battery wasn't as difficult to remove as you made it out to be. I watched the video once over before I got started. I got a little concerned with all the adhesives. They were a bit tough to take out but nothing a little heat and gentle persuasion can't take care of. Thanks for the video!
Hi there, I've just watched your "Nokia Lumia 1520 screen replacement" video on UA-cam (UK) today (23 April 2016). I found it absolutely fascinating! I really didn't believe so much work and patience went into repairing a broken screen. Your video was so clear, I could see even the tiniest of detail. And your knowledge of naming each individual part was so exact. When my Nokia Lumia 1520 screen broke ( 2 weeks ago), I was contemplating fixing it myself. However after having replaced (myself) the battery on my old Nokia Lumia 920 about 18 months ago ( and damaging it in the process), I decided not to take that chance again with my current Nokia Lumia 1520. So watching your video on the Nokia 1520, proved to me that I was right not to attempt it, but to take it to an authorized repair specialist instead. Many thanks for showing your 'brilliant video' to me (and the World). I have so much respect for you. I wish you all the best for the future. Kindest regards - Eileen, aka msnokiafan. :)
+msnokiafan Thank you very much. And just for the record this phone is one that many people have reported problems with after attempting the repair themselves. You are wise to take it to a pro.
You sir just saved me 200$ for a rip off (exchanging screen). I've bought it , done it myself using your guidelines and now i have a working, non broken screen. ^_^ Thanks!!!!
I just had to take out the time to thank you, for this very, VERY easy to follow video. I dropped, and cracked my Nokia Lumia 1520 touch screen about a week ago, and I just didn't have the money, or the time, to go get it repaired. I really....REALLY cannot do without my phone, for long lengths of time. :-( Plus, I didn't have any insurance on the phone, to get a replacement until it got fix. After going almost bananas, with the "touch-screen' doing everything it wanted to do, and Cortana must have been drinking because she would NOT SHUT UP - I decided to buy the Nokia Lumia 1520 Replacement LCD Display Touch Screen Digitizer Assembly With Frame online, and follow your video. I am soooo happy to report....my phone is brand new. And EVERYTHING works, like it did when I first got the phone. I took my time, as you instructed, and did it right. The FIRST TIME! Took me about an hour or so....but I took my time. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! You saved me some $$$ - big time!! Really appreciate this video!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this. Very very awesome. Opened up and fixed 4+ of these from the knowledge learned here! A couple things I've found: taking off the back cover is quite easy if you use your nails and pull back on it like you would taking off a phone case (start from sim/sd slot side, then to top), takes only about 5 seconds. To remove the battery, I didn't use a heat gun at all. I cut a card (anything like a credit card, loyalty card) in half and stuck them in at the locations which the glue is at (two vertical parallel strips). I just slid the two strips in and it completely breaks apart the glue. Quick and without any damage to battery. Anyway, thank you again! You da man!
this was definitely a lifesaver!! I bought the parts for 195.00 from Amazon.com and saved 55.00 labor quoted to me as well.. same shop wanted 370.00 for parts, what a mark-up!!
YOu probably wont' believe me, but I have just replaced my screen. Windows phones are dead but going to use this phaplet until the official end of suppose date in 2019. Thank you for this. My replacement was a lot simpler as some of the components that you had to move came with my replacement chassis.
This video was super helpful! I'm positive that I would have damaged the battery if not for listening to your advice on that step (Nokia is serious about their adhesive). Thank you for an awesome and detailed guide.
Awesome instructional although I found getting the battery out much easier by sliding the plastic lifting tool from the bottom on the left and right sides, had the battery out in about 2 minutes without any damage. again excellent tutorial thanks!!
Thanks so much for the video. I purchased a replacement screen from eBay that was DOA, but I was able to reinstall the cracked one then install one (OEM with assembly) purchased from the link in the description.
you are correct, you know phones. My son dropped his Lumia 1520 and it cracked at the corner, the phone came on but the touch part didn't work. Let it set for 2 weeks almost and the battery finally died. Took it to a repair shop, they wanted 325.00 up front. Went to Amazon, found a replacement for 150.00 got in on Friday, and watched your video as I replaced it. PERFECT VIDEO. put it together, charged the battery, had to go back to AT&T to get his sims reactivated. PERFECT. Thanks so much for the video. But I do hope I never have to do it again, ordering a case today for it.
Go Cell Phone Repair Thanks for the helpful video! I replaced the lcd assembly and all is working fine. However, battery drain is 2 times as fast as it was before. What do you think is causing the problem?
Thank you for the demonstration everything worked perfectly .....I did have to retrace some of my steps though....I didn't get the logic board plugged in just right once idid that all was good. Thank You
Hey hello thanks for the video very nice and yes very tricky i own the Phone and have to say very fragile display dropped it once and display shattered. Had it fixed. Display cost me around 210.00 don't know what to think i think i got it for a good price if you get it directly from Nokia its a steal. But you have to watch out it is genuine. Any way i don't live in the U.S so i had to get someone to buy me the display and mail it to me it was a pain to replace this. I didn't really know who could service the Phone and change this for me so i went to some guy i heard was good with this, indeed he was i wasn't sure but i took the risk and the next day i came back and my phone was good as new. He did mention it was very hard to remove the battery and some other tricky stuff its been a month since i had it replaced until now everything is working well. The guy charged me 30.000 colombian pesos not much at all that's around 15.00 USD also don't know what to think about that but its up and running and im very happy with my phone just as i was before shattering the display cuz its is beautiful to look at. Taking extreme measures to keep it this way. Just don't drop the thing. I have it around my wrist like a bracelet most of the time like you would do with a digital camera with one of those things you attach to have around your wrist. hopefully that prevents me from dropping it if it slips out of my hand or if someone bumps into me like it happened the first time i dropped it. It happed at a concert.cheers and thanks.
Wow it sounds like you got a great deal on the labor. As you see in the video there is a lot to be done and I think this battery is the toughest one that I have ever had to remove.
Hi. I have a question that I'd love to get an answer for. I have a Lumia 1520 and the screen backlight died. I went to get a replacement, and I plugged in the top left flex cable, the only one that the replacement had, into my frame, everything else intact, and it didn't work. The screen didn't come on, and neither did the lights on the capacitive buttons. The touch worked though and I could press the navigation and search buttons and invoke Cortana etc. Does this have something to do with the possibility of a different version or do I need to completely disassemble and place the LCD in place to test it? Any help would be so so amazing. In a fix, because I really need this phone working and the Nokia prices are insane.
+Coalcr My first guess would be that you probably did nothing wrong as this phone seems to be plagued with post repair issues. Hopefully I'm wrong and if you retrace your steps you'll find some thing partially disconnected. You can also try a hard reset or another display- is the old one still partially functional? But there is a chance that something else went wrong and it may require board level diagnosis. Maybe this will help you- from gocellphonerepair.com/how-t/troubleshooting/ Good luck: Check to see that the flex cables are connected properly. Often the connectors may seem to be plugged in correctly even though they aren’t. It is also possible that something caused the cable to shift while the phone was being assembled after repair. In many cases simply unplugging everything and reconnecting it may solve your problem. Inspect the part and the phone for less obvious signs of damage. It is possible that physical damage, exposure to moisture, or a number of other factors might prevent the screen from operating properly. Look very closely at the flex cable attached to the digitizer and LCD/AMOLED. These cables have a certain amount of flexibility but the smallest tear will cause them to cease functioning or at the least prevent them from working correctly. Also inspect the small gold metal part where they interface with the logic board. These should be perfectly straight and clean. Bending them even the smallest amount will cause problems as they require precise alignment. Use a magnifying glass to get a good look at them. Take a look at the connector on the logic board as well. Any signs of corrosion will look white or black. Sometimes it is possible to clean these with a soft bristled toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol. You must be very gentle though as they can be damaged easily. Reconnect the old screen of possible. If you tried the steps described above and still have the same problem there may be something wrong with your replacement part. If the old part still works then you can be somewhat certain that your replacement part is either damaged, defective, or incompatible with your phone. This might not always be an option since your old screen may have been destroyed. In that case the only way to determine for sure where the problem lies is to either replace the part or test it with another phone. Exchange the replacement part. While rare it is possible that you received a defective replacement part. Most vendors are very cooperative when it comes to making exchanges. If all else fails you should contact them and request that they exchange your screen. Keep in mind that if you damaged the part during installation then it really is not their fault and you should expect to pay for another.
@Abdullah Usman It's hard to say for sure but you might have a problem with your logic board. I only know of one screen for the 1520 so I don't think it's a compatibility issue. It's possible that you got a bad part but with two screens not showing a back light I am more suspicious of some other component being the problem. Can you get a hold of another unit to test the screens?
are all of the screws the same size? i need to know before i even think bout starting this, Apple products have different sizes all in the phone so you have to pay extra close attention.
Hello..Go cell phone repair, My Lumia 1520 is in good condition, but there is lot of scratches on the screen. Is it possible to replace the LCD screen not in include the toch digitalizer? How to replace it?
if you by the replacement screen, make sure it comes with the housing. if not, you will need a heat gun to remove the screen and use your old housing.you will have the remove the retainer only and detach the cable for the screen. as they mention, you should take the battery cable off to get from turning on your device. again, don't remove anything else.
@Nur Shairah I haven't tried that but theoretically it is possible assuming that they are the same model. My question would be how difficult it is to remove the LCD from the mid-frame without damaging it. If swapping the board is an option that would be a lot safer.
Marko Žutić I'm interested in this, too; can the digitizer be replaced without the LCD, as in just a cracked screen repair? My LCD display is fine, the screen's just unresponsive to touch.
my father has a 1520 and i think that windows phone its the best for him so after months and months with the phone bronken he decided to buy a new screen and lend to a expecialist to repair (Im from Uruguay)
Mark Beckitt Sadly it is shameless price gouging based on limited availability. I am looking for another supplier now and will post a new link as soon as I find one.
hi, i have a nokia lumia 1520, and the screen works well but the bottom buttons don't work, do you think I should replace the whole screen? or something else?
I was about to attempt replacing the screen on my 1520 with this helpful guide when i encountered an issue pretty much straight away. I have never removed the sim card or SD card since they went in the phone and both trays in the side of the phone failed when i used the tray removal pin! There is a clicking, but neither card tray will eject! Is this something anyone else has come across before? Looks like I'm going to have to force them both out!
I have replaced screens in the Past, and when everything was done on this one. The new replacement screen would not come on but the buttons on the bottom lit up and My camera still flashed. Could I have damaged something during the Process. If so, what could it be?
I have a problem with my rear facing camera, apart from my screen being broken, which is what brought me to this video. The camera, when you're going to take a picture shakes and makes the captured image blurry. Do you think replacing the camera hardware would fix the issue? would it be a software issue? nice video BTW, very well made, and the POV and clarity are superb. Good work! Also a couple of questions: What does that black tape stuff on top of the ribbon cables do? Do you have a recommended replacement screen? I've been doing some research and some Nokia 1520 replacement screen do not live up to expectations and/or are just plain bad.
It does sound like you have a camera problem. Could also be software so if you are in a position to restore the phone to factory defaults you can try that first before replacing the camera. The black stuff on top of the ribbon cables is probably some sort of insulation although without having the phone on hand it's hard to say for certain. I made this video a long time ago and don't remember if that was just an adhesive to hold the cables down or had another purpose. As far as parts go it is so hard to say for this model because it is a rare beast. To a certain extent you will get what you pay for but the best way to protect yourself is to buy from somewhere that is easy to return your part if necessary.
Go Cell Phone Repair I'm still trying to decide whether to replace just the whole screen and risk getting a crappy LCD, as I was doing some research and could not find any original Nokia replacement parts. If I go with replacing the glass only I'll have to buy some extra equipment that honestly I'll use only once, like the UV lights and the glue, a gluing frame, amongst other stuff.
That is the catch. A one-time repair sometimes does not justify investing in the required tools. In particular, this type since glass only is something many people fail at with their first attempt. This is the highest quality part that I am aware of goo.gl/rDFhxh (affiliate link) OEM glass, AMOLED, and flex cable.
Would you be kind as to point me in the direction of where to get replacement parts? I called Nokia the other day and they told me they do not have stores to get replacement parts. I kinda dread buying things that pop up on ebay and the likes cos they often are not from the OEM. I will really appreciate it. Thanks. By the way, good Job in the video!
Yeah sometimes it's hard to know what you're getting from Ebay or Amazon. I include links from my regular suppliers whenever possible but for the 1520 not too many places seem to carry the parts. I have included listings from top rated sellers at gocellphonerepair.com/1520 for vendors that we have bought from in the past. So far no problems.
Hi, I got my LCD + Digitizer replaced a couple of times and on both occasions it works for a couple of hers and then stops responding. The first was by a pro, second by myself. On both occasions everything works fine at first and then it stops responding. Having been through 2 LCD + digitizers, I am beginning to think it is something else. Any tips?
Hey thanks for doing this video with an up close view every other video I've seen were not. I have recently replaced the screen on my Lumia 1520 and had an incredibly hard time getting the battery out like you said. I used a blow dryer (didn't have a head gun) and that adhesive didn't seem to care. Any way I got it out but I perforated the skin on the battery (unknowingly). Now I've put everything back together (Correctly) the phone doesn't start. All I get is a vibration and a flashing windows button/ Home button. So I think I may have damaged the battery cause it's been charging all night and still nothing. Others who have had the flashing button said it went away after a while and their phones started up. Do you think its the battery?
***** Makes sense. Hopefully that's your only problem. By far the strongest adhesive I've ever seen used to hold a battery in place. I'm really surprised that I didn't damage the one in the video.
Hi, this is not exactly related but... my back button has stopped illuminating and was wondering if you might know how I'd go about replacing that? (obviously a lot of the above steps are the same, at least 'til half way through the video) I clicked the link above but am unsure which part has the LEDs for the capacitive buttons. :-/ Cheers!
This is how mine started then the start key, then the search key then the microphone. it all comes back if I twist the phone just right but its unusable for long phone calls
I haven't tried removing just the glass yet so it's hard to say on this one. The way that the phone is designed I think that it would be best to remove the display assembly from the frame first and use the heating plate-molybdenum wire method but of course that would increase the chances of damaging the LCD in the process. If I get a hold of one to experiment with I will post the results on my channel.
Hi there. My friend dropped her lumia and the screen cracked but everything else works perfectly. What type of screen should I buy and where can I find a good quality one? Also how much will it cost? Thanks
Good day sir! I just want to find out what probably is the problem with my screen. Last night i noticed lines at the very bottom and it's like a mirror reflection of what's on the very top of the screen. It's very thin probably half a millimeter thin. Also during start up, the nokia splash screen and windows splash screen are double images, almost overlapping. I haven't brought the phone to a microsoft service center because they might charge me an arm and a leg for a simple diagnosis so i brought to a small repair shop and they said that the lcd needs to be replaced but it's going to cost me around 100 bucks. I was thinking that it maybe just some loose cable that's causing it. What do you think? Thank you very much!
+dingdong dongle It could be a problem with the connector but you might have a bad display. Without taking the phone apart and checking for damage or a bad connection it is impossible to say with any certainty.
I have a problem with mine where the bottom buttons don't lite and the microphone doesn't work unless I twist the phone. could this be a loose ribbon cable connection or a bad board?
I found the found in a parking lot 3 months ago.. finally got some plastic to order the parts.. these phones go for 400.00-600.00 without a phone contract.. 200.00 and i'm in business.. will contact Sprint to see if they will send me a nano sim card.. Hopefully don't need an unlock on this one, I did a hard reset on it but AT&T logo and some of their apps are still on the phone.. found a good inexpensive case on Amazon.com for about 14.00 I intend to order..
Go Cell Phone Repair, I followed your steps and almost everything went perfectly. My display is working fine, but the touchscreen not. but when i unplug and plug again the flat cable, the screen and touch screen works, however, if i turn off the phone and turn it on again, doesnt work the touchscreen again. So i need to do the same proceed, unplugg and plug the flat cable again. Do you know if this issue can be fixed somehow? Best regards.
Renan Ribeiro It sounds like maybe there is a problem with the replacement part. If your old screen didn't have the same problem I'd see about exchanging for another one.
Renan Ribeiro were you able to fix the problem? what flat cable are you unplugging, the lcd cable or the touch flex? have same issue but touch IC seems to be a different hardware. original one have Synaptics S4304B and new versions which I have 2 different ones, one with Synaptics S5000B and CHIPONE ICN8303M. Both bought from China, none of them works. The rest of the Hardware works fine as I've tested with another LCD complete assembly, but IC is CHIPONE ICN8303. Any advice about what to touch with the other hand? as I'm testing fully dissasemble. Estebandelatorre@hotmail.com
I haven't worked on a 1320 yet but I can tell you that the 520, 930, 1020, and 1520 all have significantly different designs. It seems like Nokia changes things up regularly.
Please help!, I just broke the screen on my 1520 and its either go buy another phone full price or pay the repair shop $300 for something I could probably do at home, I love my phone, I can't imagine going back to a dinky screen!
I still have the one that was removed so in the future I will try to separate it from the LCD. The only drawback is that we rarely see this phone so in order to test it once I install a new digitizer will probably mean that we will have to buy one. If/when that happens I will definitely post a video.
Go Cell Phone Repair I tried that and again it's no walk in the park. I was able to get the front glass off. but there is another darker glass between the front glass and the LCD. This got damaged during the removal process. So I don't mean to tell you how to do you job but I would use a bunch of heat to remove the front glass and not the pick. The pick broke the dark glass between the LCD and the Front clear glass. Just a heads up.
***** I still haven't gotten around to this one yet but yes, I always use a heating plate for glass removal. A playing card works better than a pick IME. Like you said no walk in the park. Thanks for the input.
Go Cell Phone Repair you could only do a video on separateing the LCD from Digitiyer on a broken screen that you have left, just to show us what is inside, and if digitizer goes with the screen or with glass. i think it should be an easy repair but you know what i mean :D thanks!
Hello, i got a question. my 1520 fell of the table and now their is some small marks on the screen. do i really need to pay 158 dollar for a new screen. I found on ebay something called Black Touch Screen Digitizer Glass Replacement For Nokia Lumia 1520 N1520 CNOG what is this?
That is probably the touchscreen but not the AMOLED. If you have blemishes on the display itself then the only way to fix it is to replace the whole thing. It's a lot more expensive of course. $169 as of today. gocellphonerepair.com/lumia-1520-screen-replacement/
We try to make sure that all of the vendors on our site have good reputations as far as quality and reliability. If you find something with any problems you should have no problem returning it as long as you don't cause any damage. gocellphonerepair.com/1520
Hey I dropped My Nokia 1520 and only front glass was cracked. But still it is working. Is there any possibility to replace only glass. I have seen some videos that replace only the glass such as Nokia 930 .
Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble after changing my display. Actually I changed both the display and the battery with new ones. I did mess up a bit, with removing the ribbon cable for the right side buttons, now my sleep/on-off button does not work. That however is OK, I can wake it with a double tap. However there is another weird problem. For some time the phone works fine. At some point while I am using it starts acting like it is flooded with commands from the touchscreen. Presses random places on the screen or the navigation bar. Each time I disassemble it and assemble it again, it starts OK, and after some time it starts doing it again. I reconnected all ribbon cables, I can not figure what is wrong with it. Has someone elese encountered a similar problem?
Your video was fantastic, but i followed everything and put on the new assembly, but the touch doesnt work. everything else is fine. went back in, all cables are plugged into both the display and mohterboard. help?
You might have gotten a bad part. Otherwise maybe something was damaged during the installation. Do all of the cables look perfect? It only takes a very slight scratch or teat to damage them.
Go Cell Phone Repair yes everything seems fine. I put that old part back on and now it doesnt work either. i must have damaged something :( any idea what i could have broken?
Go Cell Phone Repair I'm having the same issue. Do you know of anyway to test the screen to be sure if it's a bad part? Edit: I got the touch to work (turned the phone on while it was in the bezel and disconnected/reconnected the screen cable until it worked). Just had to get the buttons to go now.
Jennifer Harris Hard to say but are you making sure to disconnect the battery and making it the last thing that you plug in? If not you might try unplugging it now and then reconnect.
hmm, at first i put my guitar pick thingy in the wrong line so instead of being in between of the screen and the back cover it was in between the screen and the digitizer i guess, now the touch dont work...
I think a connection might not be connected properly in my device. The screen goes crazy and the back button fades I notice I have to press the top left for everything to start to work correctly. Should I take it apart and clean of everything and make sure its secure? Has anyone else have a problem like mine?
Sounds like it could be a grounding or connection problem. I haven't run into that on this phone but when in doubt unplugging and then reconnecting all of the cables never hurts.
I did it and come to find out I still have warranty left on my device so yeah I probably missed a chance to get it fixed free... :( wish me luck I am sending it in today.
Hello, more than 1 month ago I dropped and shattered my 1520's screen. I took it to the service and after a looong time of waiting i finally got it back but with a really big problem. After 2-5 minutes of usage the touchscreen freezes and it won't unfreeze unless I restart the phone by holding down the power-off button. After the restart it will again work for 2-5 minutes before it freezes again and then the story keeps repeating. I took it back and the guy that replaced the screen said he doesen't know what to do.I also noticed that the screen wasn't fitted 100% in the phone case, only 90%, i mean i can see the lightning behind the back ,home and search buttons, but if i press down on the screen it goes all the way back to where it is supossed to be. The phone is up to date.I'm getting really pissed off because all this job was pretty expensive and the phone is not usable, unless I want to hit nails with it. Any piece of advice would be really appreciated, thank you.
It sounds like they tried to do the display separately from the housing or you got a bad part. In my experience it is best to buy the whole thing pre-assembled and doesn't add much to the cost of the replacement unit. Plus you will have a brand new bezel. I don't know what to tell you regarding the person who worked on your phone though. He should at least be willing to work with you as far as remounting the display or returning it if it is defective in some way.
hey , it.s me again...1 week after i wrote to you last year the screen cracked all by itself ( due to bad fitting i suppose), and i just let it be . Today I just ordered the hole piece for my phone & i.m gonna replace it myself. Do you have any particular advice ,beside the ones in the video ? I hope you do remember, i know it.s an old one lol. Greeting from Romania.
I'm stuck at 8:03two of the screws are completely stripped, the driver is getting nowhere I don't want to damage the phone but I cant go any farther because of those screws. Please can anyone help'
+Daniel Dare Fair enough. How would you go about warning people? Before the disclaimer there was a lot of "I tried this and now my phone is broken. Its all your fault!" While its obviously up to the viewer to decide they need to understand the risks.
+Go Cell Phone Repair Fair enough but I don't think you should pander to fools it makes us all feel we have to disclaimer and idiot proof everything. Thanks for the video though as it makes me wonder why people have this done or attempt it themselves as replacement cost (second hand) seems a better option.
If you're smart you will "disclaimer and idiot proof everything". Unless you're independently wealthy and/or don't care about your reputation. On a lighter note, warning people is not "pandering to fools". That's absurd. Replacing with a second-hand phone means taking a risk as well. You have to weigh the risk of replacing the screen on your phone with a known working condition vs. Buying a second-hand phone that's an unknown. People like me just cannot give up on a phone merely because the screen needs replaced. Granted the 1520 is one of the most difficult, time-consuming, and risky screen jobs there is but patience and finesse are your best friends. along with a little luck that none of the known issues happen on restart,. Yes I know this is an old video and an old comment but WTF I had spare time.
I followed your video to a "T". Got everything back together and powered the device on but my issue is everything works but the main display. Here is a video I took of the device put back together with the display not working: ua-cam.com/video/1yiCZoJ2Kh0/v-deo.html What did I do wrong? How do I fix it? Can you please help me out.
excellent tutorial.
Thanks, man. Just fixed my 1520 successfully. Couldn't have done this without your video.
That's great and thank you.
You sir just saved me 200$ for a rip off (exchanging screen).
I've bought it , done it myself using your guidelines and now i have a working, non broken screen. ^_^ Thanks!!!!
I work for a cell phone repair shop and never worked on a Nokia 1520. Your video was very helpful throughout the entire process!!!
Thank you!
Brilliant video. Thank you very much, you saved me a few hundred pounds by fixing my old faithful than going out and buying a new phone. Thanks again.
+Felix Williams Congrats. Slow and steady is the key.
+Felix Williams Where doy you buy it???? It was refurbished??? new
I followed this and changed out my screen and back from pinned to wireless, this is brilliant, easy to follow, concise, brilliant work, thank you
Thanks for this.
You da man!
Great! Thanks for adding your experience here. I'm sure that it will make things easier for anyone who reads it.
this was definitely a lifesaver!!
Windows phones were the best IMO. It's too bad they didn't keep up with the app market. Still miss my Lumia 1020.
I totally agree with you; Microsoft lost on that front mostly because of timing: they waited too long to enter the cell phone market.
This video was super helpful! I'm positive that I would have damaged the battery if not for listening to your advice on that step (Nokia is serious about their adhesive). Thank you for an awesome and detailed guide.
Awesome, thank you.
Awesome instructional although I found getting the battery out much easier by sliding the plastic lifting tool from the bottom on the left and right sides, had the battery out in about 2 minutes without any damage. again excellent tutorial thanks!!
johnierw Thanks for the tip. I'm always looking for ways to improve the process.
Thanks so much for the helpful video! My gf and I were able to do the screen replacement on her phone with the help of your video.
Thanks again,
Jay
Awesome. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the video. I purchased a replacement screen from eBay that was DOA, but I was able to reinstall the cracked one then install one (OEM with assembly) purchased from the link in the description.
Thanks for this video. Now my 1520 once again has a usable screen! :)
+Arild Langseth Glad to hear that. Lately this phone seems to be giving a lot of people problems during the screen replacement process.
Thank you very much for the very detailed instruction. I just successfully replaced my Lumia 1520 display.
awesome work followed ur steps and it went perfectly well
you are correct, you know phones.
Awesome and congratulations. I'm glad that you found the video helpful.
Thank You
Thank you for this video! Got myself a replacement screen and everything now works, I feel like I have a new phone... :)
great video man I was able to replace the screen on my wife's phone with this video thanks for posting!
Awesome!
Great video! Wonder if I don't have a heat gun can I use a hairdryer instead?
Thanks a lot you saved my life :)
Best repair video I ever saw! But I still don't trust myself to do it. What do you charge, and how do I contact you?
$100 plus shipping for this one. Where are you located? You can email me here: info@gocellphonerepair.com
teşekkürler sayenizde kendi telefonumu kendim tamir ettim hemde yarı fiyata gelmiş oldu
Great instruction . thanks so much.
Can you make a video of how to replace the digitizer alone for the lumia 1520?
In a fix, because I really need this phone working and the Nokia prices are insane.
love the tutorial, helped me out alot tonight.... But now the screen wont turn on but the leds at the bottom will.... do you know what it might be??
+Coalcr My first guess would be that you probably did nothing wrong as this phone seems to be plagued with post repair issues. Hopefully I'm wrong and if you retrace your steps you'll find some thing partially disconnected. You can also try a hard reset or another display- is the old one still partially functional? But there is a chance that something else went wrong and it may require board level diagnosis.
Maybe this will help you- from gocellphonerepair.com/how-t/troubleshooting/
Good luck:
Check to see that the flex cables are connected properly.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial, Mike. Everything went smooth and I have a working phone here again ! +++
Awesome and congrats!
thank you so much,easy instruction.
+Go Cell Phone Repair +Abdullah Usman , replace your battery ;)
Thanks man. This helped me a lot.
Thank you.
are all of the screws the same size? i need to know before i even think bout starting this, Apple products have different sizes all in the phone so you have to pay extra close attention.
Hello..Go cell phone repair, My Lumia 1520 is in good condition, but there is lot of scratches on the screen. Is it possible to replace the LCD screen not in include the toch digitalizer? How to replace it?
Robert4Yang I haven't tried with that model yet. Possibly but it really depends on what they used to bond them.
if you by the replacement screen, make sure it comes with the housing. if not, you will need a heat gun to remove the screen and use your old housing.you will have the remove the retainer only and detach the cable for the screen. as they mention, you should take the battery cable off to get from turning on your device. again, don't remove anything else.
Great video, helped so much!!
I did it and it all went well.
+JIJI JACOB Good to hear.
@Nur Shairah I haven't tried that but theoretically it is possible assuming that they are the same model. My question would be how difficult it is to remove the LCD from the mid-frame without damaging it. If swapping the board is an option that would be a lot safer.
Go Cell Phone Repair is there a way for a digitizer only repair on this phone?
Marko Žutić I'm interested in this, too; can the digitizer be replaced without the LCD, as in just a cracked screen repair? My LCD display is fine, the screen's just unresponsive to touch.
John Mystic aparently it can, you can by part only digitizer, but hard part is removeing digitizer from lcd, it is tought but it is doable.
my father has a 1520 and i think that windows phone its the best for him so after months and months with the phone bronken he decided to buy a new screen and lend to a expecialist to repair (Im from Uruguay)
Excelente video.
Just gently pull them out.
Good work!
Also a couple of questions:
What does that black tape stuff on top of the ribbon cables do?
Go Cell Phone Repair I don't think its software related because I just recently updated to windows 10 phone and it kept doing the same thing
Well the camera is about $12 so worth a try for sure.

Any tips?
you are the man.
Possibly. Does the battery smell funny? Kind of sweet? You can usually tell when they have a leak.
Go Cell Phone Repair Yep the battery is leaking.
***** Makes sense. Hopefully that's your only problem. By far the strongest adhesive I've ever seen used to hold a battery in place. I'm really surprised that I didn't damage the one in the video.
where I get the original screen. ...nice tutorial
Cheers!
+Yelpy I don't have one on hand at the moment but I believe that the light are located in the charging port.
This is how mine started then the start key, then the search key then the microphone. it all comes back if I twist the phone just right but its unusable for long phone calls
Very helpful guys
Thank you.
would you be able to do a glass replacement or would i have to replace the entire lcd assembly?
I haven't tried removing just the glass yet so it's hard to say on this one. The way that the phone is designed I think that it would be best to remove the display assembly from the frame first and use the heating plate-molybdenum wire method but of course that would increase the chances of damaging the LCD in the process. If I get a hold of one to experiment with I will post the results on my channel.
Hi there. My friend dropped her lumia and the screen cracked but everything else works perfectly. What type of screen should I buy and where can I find a good quality one? Also how much will it cost? Thanks
You should be able to find one here gocellphonerepair.com/lumia-1520-screen-replacement/
Without taking the phone apart and checking for damage or a bad connection it is impossible to say with any certainty.
necesito saber si el cristal del nokia 1520 se puede cambiar solo no con el lcd
Awesome... Worked great. A thousand thanks for this video. :)
Great and thank you.
Is it possible to transfer LCD screens if there are 2 phones ?
those lcd screens from china on ebay, are they worth it ? I mean do they work the same as original? price is much lower..
Go Cell Phone Repair,
I followed your steps and almost everything went perfectly.
Estebandelatorre@hotmail.com
holle ; can you make a video of how recover photos after updating plz
Where can i buy those toolkit? i afraid i buy it wrongly.
Is this the same way you would replace the screen on a 1320
do you know if the 1320 is built the same way? Cant seem to find a video about that phone
I haven't worked on a 1320 yet but I can tell you that the 520, 930, 1020, and 1520 all have significantly different designs. It seems like Nokia changes things up regularly.
i subscribed to your channel can you please make a review how to change the digitizer on the lumia 1520.......reply plzzz....
If I get another one I will for sure. We just rarely come across that phone here. I've seen two since they were released.
ok hopefully thanks anyway
Please help!, I just broke the screen on my 1520 and its either go buy another phone full price or pay the repair shop $300 for something I could probably do at home, I love my phone, I can't imagine going back to a dinky screen!
where do I buy this frame+lcd+digitizer+glass??????
Would it be possible for you to make a video on how to replace the screen digitizer only? My LCD is fine but my screen is non responsive to the touch.
Go Cell Phone Repair "...a heating plate...". I'll remember that for next time. I hope there isn't a next time though. :-D
Go Cell Phone Repair you could only do a video on separateing the LCD from Digitiyer on a broken screen that you have left, just to show us what is inside, and if digitizer goes with the screen or with glass. i think it should be an easy repair but you know what i mean :D
thanks!
My screen is blank, when I post on I can see Nokia, but then blank... Will I need to replace the screen, or could that be something else?
thank you :)
Thanks, this helps me a lot !! Kind regards ;)
Thank you.
what brand of screen did you use? I am worried about purchasing a third party.
I haven't tried that with this one yet but it does look like the digitizer is attached to the glass.
Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of trouble after changing my display.
Were are you located? How much would you charge to replace the display?
We have two stores in the East Bay Area of California. For this one your looking at $260 plus tax on the part which is currently $190.
where and how much to buy Nokia lumia 1520 screen?
+Jerico Ramos (Mr. Trustworthy) you can buy it online on Aliexpress a price is 46 to 60 euro
Go Cell Phone Repair
yes everything seems fine. I put that old part back on and now it doesnt work either. i must have damaged something :( any idea what i could have broken?
Go Cell Phone Repair
I'm having the same issue.
Can someone give me the names of all the screwdrivers used on the phone?
My lumia 1520 insert sim error is coming can u plz help me
hmm, at first i put my guitar pick thingy in the wrong line so instead of being in between of the screen and the back cover it was in between the screen and the digitizer i guess, now the touch dont work...

Yes, he did try to do the display separately. Thnaks for the answer, much appreciated
hey , it.s me again...1 week after i wrote to you last year the screen cracked all by itself ( due to bad fitting i suppose), and i just let it be .

No problem.
I am from India but 1520 replacement not available in india
The disclaimer at the beginning was enough to put me off. Think about removing it as it comes across as being a bit precious/matron like. Thank you.
+Daniel Dare Fair enough. How would you go about warning people? Before the disclaimer there was a lot of "I tried this and now my phone is broken. Its all your fault!" While its obviously up to the viewer to decide they need to understand the risks.

Fair enough but I don't think you should pander to fools it makes us all feel we have to disclaimer and idiot proof everything.
Thanks for that.
I'm pretty sure my LCD and digitizer are both damaged. $300 for a fix.
