Your dad was right about most but the thing is you only need one! If you're not already there make sure you become the person you want to attract. One good man is worth more than 1,000 free dates. Also, you should allow your dad an opinion on the men you talk to. His perspective is Gold. He'll only want the best for you so his opinion will be in your best interest. And at the end of the day your dad will always be there for you to fall back on if that fails. #fromagirldad

Same! My parents were married, and my dad always provided for us but he pressed me about getting my education and being able to be self-sufficient because that's also just part of being an adult and survival. And I get it as an adult because my mom is extremely dependent on my step dad now financially especially since she's in her 60s because of her line of work. her line of work would not provide a good life for her. On the other hand, my job and what I earn along with my degrees and certifications - should my husband and I split right now, I can live alone and support myself and be just fine.

What kills me about this convo, it's almost always men talking about how black woman don't do this or that. But they never bring up all the black men, who lead woman straight to hell, poverty, infidelity, single motherhood, inability to match income. They never discuss their credentials on what has taught them how to lead? Many of them don't want to lead they want to control. I wish those people would ask these men what is the difference between leading and controlling and what is a partnership/relationship?

The CDC did a study on fatherhood, Black Father's are the most involved fathers regardless if they are with the mother of the child or not. This is a government study. Black women have the lowest marriage rates among all women but black fathers are the most involved. My point is the false stereotype is coming from black women. Black women are the ones who literally created these negative narratives about black men. If what you are saying is true then who is raising the black men to be terrible men? Black women don't want to admit they are raising those boys to grow up and act just like them . Black women don't want to admit that these terrible men coming from single mother households are just a mirror of who they are. They lack accountability. Black men aren't perfect but black women take no accountability whatsoever I'm anything negative in the black community. Just because you have a child does not make you a good mother. Alot of these men raised by single mothers don't have daddy issues they have mommy issues. Because they were raised by a terrible woman. So they treat black women the exact way they were treated by them.

What’s wrong with not needing a man??? I think every woman’s goal should be to position herself to not need a man to survive and not be ashamed to say it. I’m a smart cookie and I honestly don’t understand why this has some men up in arms. (Perhaps those men need therapy to unpack why their manhood is dependent on a woman needing them.)
Also - this should go without saying - not needing a man doesn’t men you don’t appreciate them or want them. You just don’t *need* them. In my mind men should want women who don’t need them b/c then you know she’s there for the right reasons. Why would you prefer a woman who wouldn’t be with you if she could survive on her own. (Perhaps that’s it - men know many women only deal with them out of need, so you shame women into relying on you so you maintain access 🤔🤔.)

Ask any father that is actually in his daughter life... the first thing he teaches her is not to be completely dependant on a men, rather that is right or wrong.... its a good thing to teach your daughter... and that she can always depend on him when things aren't going right.
Now there is other things that is solely black single moms fault, but this just isn't one of them.... actually point at the issue instead of assigning every single thing you dislike being black women fault.
