Those two films are really dear to me... I'm Italian and I love cinema but sometimes films are not as good when they are translated as they are in the original language, so, thanks to Брат and Брат2 I started to learn Russian and discovered Сергэй Бодров and his other films.. such a legend with a very sad story😢❤

I saw the first movie years ago on a channel called "World link TV." It just blew my mind away because of how real it felt.. It was late at night and I didn't have school the next day, maybe I was sick I don't remember.. Then they showed the music video to "krylja." I remember setting an alarm at 6am so I could record it to show friends. I just watched it absolutely blown away again. Bought the DVD a few years later and it still seemed magical to me. Haven't seen the second but want to terribly.

Conclusion after watching both films back to back: the monologue about money, power, and truth shows how the 'true russian spirit' embodied by the protaganist is a paragon of an american superhero. Wonderfully ironic.

Discovered it in 2004 when at a Russian video store in West Hollywood and 4 years later GTA 4 pays tribute to the Brat films. Even Russian youtuber NFKRZ made an analysis of both films and how GTA pays tribute. Wish Bodrov lived to make Brat 3 i feel the story is incomplete after 2. Viktor still remained in prison while Danila returned to Russia with Dasha.

St Petersburg is founded by Peter the Great but not actually named after him... It draws on the more ancient etymological roots of Peter as "the rock". Seeing as Peter the Great was founding his new empire there, it was a logical name, on top of the obvious Germanic roots of the name which showcased his westernising ambitions
