      Hello Lester. Good to hear from you. Running the mill and the other things we do here is definitely something we enjoy. It is hard work at times, but we were never afraid of hard work. Especially when you consider the rewards of what we produce. We hope we can continue for many more years.

      Hello Wade, and welcome. Definitely think you found the right place. We have milled many beams for new and restoration structures. It's great to see them complete, and knowing you played a part in it.

    How many useable board feet do you get out of a log like this?

    • @IronOakSawmill
      @IronOakSawmill  2 роки тому

      On Doyle and Scribner its 344 and 356 respectfully. Not to shabby.

    Good video.............until the rain came. Don't like getting wet; unless it's in the shower. I noticed you took a number of "veneer" cuts from the cant; was it moving that much?
    Dave

    • @IronOakSawmill
      @IronOakSawmill  2 роки тому

      At least we beat the rain.... Still managed to record the closing before it got to dark.
      It was moving a bit. I like to take those cut on logs this long, after I turn i/ and before I pull a jacket off. Just to insure the board is straight. Also, I save that last little cut to reach final dimension. Lots of turning, and lots of veneer cuts, but the beam should end up as straight as can be.

      Hey Rick. Thanks for stopping in. This beam would weigh in at around 850 to 900 lbs. He has a mchine to set these posts.
