- A bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Augustine George Masih ruled that divorced Muslim women can file a petition under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as well as the Muslim Women (Protection on Divorce Act) 1986 to demand maintenance from their husbands. Muslims should treat this as an isolated case and not protest against the judgement. The protests have only exacerbated the problems faced by Muslims and inadvertently aided their rivals.
Muslims are free to adhere to Islamic laws in their personal matters (99.99% doing so). Those who choose not to follow Islamic laws have the option to seek resolution through the courts. In such cases, both parties should respect the rulings of the judiciary. Importantly, accepting the verdict will prevents political parties from exploiting the situation.

You should learn How to mislead the debate from Zafar sareshwala. Issue is how the verdict will help Talaqshuda muslim women? But sareshwala want to teach the world how Qur'an is greate. Was it not greate when court had to intervene and gave verdict in favour of Shah Banu. Where was sareshwala and his Quran then ? Then he should have educated his mullas and moulvis that Quran is greate, He is not ready to accept that muslim women are being wronged. Instead he accuse Banu for approching court and suggests she should have gone to very people who rejected the maintenance. He asks why she went to court? Then where else she could have gone ? No amount of Mehar can be substantial enough for any woman after divorce. This discussion is futile. Mehar is not intended for her sustenance or maintenance after divorce but serves as a token of the husband's financial responsibility towards his wife.

Muslim should first give education to the girl child and awareness, but this judgement is not right. Why should a person who has divorced her give her maintenance. Her brother and father should be able to support her in this situation. I as a person does not want maintenance from the person who has divorced my daughter.
