In a lot of the earlier Funhaus/Inside Gaming videos, Lawrence talks about trying to figure out his on-screen persona. He ended up deciding on the Quintessential Gamer where he's an uber nerdy tryhard who gets crazy salty about everything. I've no doubt that Lawrence has a bunch of those qualities, but he definitely exaggerates them when he's on camera.
If you haven’t already, you should check out his streams as well. He’s a really charming, and well-spoken man and has some profound things to say every now and then.
Lawrence was an awesome guest this episode. Lot's of guests that come on tend to be more reserved about being involved in the more personal topics, but he was all in and it makes the conversation a lot more interesting.
I haven't watched that much Funhaus content but the way he talked about that made me relate to him. I've never heard something that I could relate to as that, just the way he coped with things is almost the same way I do. I found it comforting, to not only hear someone talk about it but someone who has a persona on a social platform.
Knightguy200 I think a big reason he was so open is that they are open on funhaus. The dude soup podcast doesn't talk too much about things that always open talks about. But they are very open and honest on it. And like to see situations from many different viewpoints.
Watching him now, terrifies me, because this is all I can see. An AI talking about making observations and adjusting himself accordingly while refusing complacency.
Teaent I've said this many times. Don't worry about Ai killing every human and taking over or just using us as pets, because they'll be better than us and we won't matter anymore.
I also thought Geoff was great, and I really feel like they should do an episode with Barb, Mariel, Lawrence, and Geoff. I think that group would work really well together.
At Maggie's point about her looking through someone's phone: Personally, I'm the kind of person who doesnt like people looking through my phone. I've got nothing no one else should see, but I value my privacy, even in a relationship. If my significant other wants to know something, I'm happy to show them. But respect my privacy, as I respect theirs, and please don't snoop through my things without my permission. That's a betrayal of trust all in of itself. Being with someone doesn't entitle you to invade their privacy. Ask me. I'm happy to show you, if there's any question. I won't take offense to it, at all, and we can have a conversation about what led to the suspicion and how to prevent it in the future. But don't invade my privacy. That is a deal breaker. If I'm just your boyfriend, serious or not, you aren't entitled to information that I wouldn't willingly share on my own. Perhaps I'm not comfortable with opening up about certain things, and that invasion and disrespect of someone's comfort and boundaries is a deal breaker. So it's good she makes it clear that she prefers a no boundary relationship. Personally, I prefer to have boundaries and then cross them and open up on my own terms, in my own time. And I'd show anyone else the same respect and right to privacy.
Justin Thompson you may not have anything to hide but a lot of people do so a lot of people get burned in my experience and want to check because they lost the ability to trust. But that does not mean that there are a bunch of outliers that just have trust issues to begin with. In my opinion.
Same, same, same, same. As soon as she came back at Lawrence with "well that sounds like their problem.." I knew her point of view was very different than mine. I am a private person. If I have anxiety about sharing something, I need my SO to respect that and not just go through my stuff while I'm not looking just because they wanted to know. It's a huge breach of trust for me.
Same, I feel like letting my partner have some privacy shows that I'm serious about the relationship and that I respect them. That I don't need to go out of my way to pry into their life, and that I respect them as a person.
One of the best things I like about Always Open is the level of comfort when it comes to talking about issues or topics that are a little taboo. It might feel to some, like someone has gone too far, but I disagree. Never be afraid to explore, or at least talk about things, no matter how strange or out of place it seems. Because you never know who might have a question about such things. Keep up the great shows! Can't wait for the next season!
KBallelli They could easily change the name to Safe Space, there’s a level of comfort I get from this show, comfort I know exist but I don’t see/hear enough
I was worried when I saw Lawrence as a guest that he would pull a SP7 and just goof off the whole time, but he was amazingly vulnerable, candid, and thoughtful. I know he puts on some serious pants for Dude Soup as well, but that's in his wheel house (ha) so I wasn't sure how something so personal would fit for him. I'm so happy I tuned in and I really hope he's a guest again next season! What a great episode :)
Man, this episode really opened my eyes to who Lawrence is as a person as opposed to the character or the strictly business quintessential gamer on Funhaus. Minus the booze, I can relate so hard. I just want to buy him a Dr. Pepper and talk it out.
ReplayStation Lawrence does indeed get a bad wrap by a lot of fans(from what I can tell from reddit, comments, Twitter, etc) but to me he has a sort of genuineness and kindness that I could appreciate and root for, I’m glad this episode worked for you and maybe others to help see who Lawrence really is as a person
Gonzalo Leon I mean, to an extent, most of the on screen personalities 'play a character'... when they're "on", they're trying to be entertaining, so you never really get to see some of your favorite personalities open up and get real. Always Open is really good for pulling genuine conversation out of its guests.
I love Lawrence's perspective on things. I really don't know anyone like him in person so it's completely refreshing and unique for me. I'm a diehard Funhaus fan but it's always nice to see calmer, genuine Lawrence like on Dude Soup.
The transition from Inside Gaming to FunHaus has been one of the best thing that has happened to me. Just being able to understand the people ive been watching on a somewhat personal level is great. I just love hearing you guys talk.
Self confidence 101: The things you can control, you should always try to improve. The things you can't control, you should accept as a part of you and be okay with. Learning the difference between these things is probably the hardest part, because they're not always the same for every person. It's part of learning who you are.
I appreciate Lawrence in a different light from the character he plays on Funhaus. I guess he overdoes it sometimes a change of pace is good once in awhile.
Couldn't agree less with maggie. To go on your S.O phone without permission shows you have no trust and respect. Whether you find anything or not the relationship seems tarnished.
I really liked that last question cause it made me ask myself about it, and I didn't know I needed it but I needed that boost in confidence. Can't wait for the next season!
They want the bartender, named/called Texas, to be a full on guest and sit their the whole time. To add to it, bring someone in as the guest, but make them struggle to be the bartender the whole time. Like someone like Ryan who doesn't drink has to make the drinks for them.
Im a newbie here but i wanted to say thank you. I related to a few topics discussed during this episode especially when Maggie brought up the way her father felt. I stressed a lot recently at work to point of having health issues that i am dealing with at the moment. I too have the issue of not giving myself enough credit and taking on more than I should for the benefit of others.
I love how you guys speak plainly as a human. Nobody is above all others and you show the humanity of everything. I love that Muriel and Barbara are always easy to watch
Polygamy does JUST refer to marriage. Not mad, not calling anyone out. Just, that's what the word means and how people use it. Polyamory can mean a lot of things, but it boils down to being in a relationship with more than one partner where all partners have knowledge of each other. (But people who identify as poly usually know about themselves that they prefer non-monogamous (single partner) relationships.) Polygamy is the practice of taking on more than one spouse and is used specifically for the context of marriage. Also, this episode was amazing and made me reflect a lot on my own life. Never thought I would almost be brought to tears by the quintessential gamer.
Julia Febos GET THIS COMMENT LOTS OF LIKES! Ive got fam who's poly and they're the best. I could never do it bc ive got issues and may not exactly know the reason for it, but honestly,,, get informed. let people know. let's get this lots of likes!!!!
Maximillien Robespierre yea I know but I'm talking about since he was on IG, he has become on of my favorite FH members over the years. Im just super happy seeing Lawrence like this in off topic, its really refreshing
Started watching this show this year and it has made me more confident with myself and my issues. Thanks Barbara and Mariel along with the rest of The Always Open Crew!! Can't wait for Season 4!! Have A Very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not gonna lie, this has kinda become the only Podcast I watch from the RT part of the company any more. Got bored with all the others, but this one is always fresh and interesting. Can't wait for season 4!
Part of it, I believe is how they put much more effort on connecting with their audience in comparison to their other shows. They want us to respond with feedback and questions, and for the most part they respond back
22:25 Sounds like Mr. Sonntag wants a Hand Grenade. Stop into one of those Tropical Island bars and they sell them in a plastic grenade cup. I turned mine into a bong!
Lawrence's way of thinking when the show asked what he "liked about himself," really speaks to me. I'm glad he thinks in a really similar fashion as I do. And I get the whole break up thing. Crying and drinking? That was my thing for about a month. Yeah, wouldn't recommend it but I get it. So in short, thank you Lawrence for letting me know that there is someone who has a relation to me.
Confidence boosting episode. Loved hearing from the quint essential gamer and Maggie! Hearing about Jack-in-the-Box is making want to go back to Texas. Can't wait for the next season!!
Lawrence is the one Rooster Teeth member i believe i really can relate to. The small little facts he shares, knowing when to discuss and knowing when to fool around. Most of all, he's the quintessential gamer.
Well unfortunately the discussion reared its head sooner than i was ready for. Lets say it didnt turn out well but hey, i managed to avoid a toxic relationship before it got too serious
Been watching Lawrence and the Funhaus crew since they were on Inside Gaming. Cool to see Lawrence in a different way here. Think I will have to watch more of this show now!
My only real want is for this show to be a little longer. I feel like there's so many times in this show where I've really wanted to hear something, whether it be a personal experience from someone, or just what they think, but it feels like it gets cut a little short.
I get what you mean, but... I dunno, that kind of mentality makes sense for a TV show. But the problem is this is a podcast, and the stuff they talk about doesn't come back up in the next episode.
I feel bad, but by falling for Barbara helped me get over my ex. Shes just so warm and inviting. Her smile and humor got me through some really hard times, so thank you. For being someone I can fall for, even if we will never meet.
As a massive Funhaus fan, it was really, really cool to see Lawrence outside of his persona. Phenomenal episode, as always.
Jack Kelley what persona? I thought Lawrence was being himself the whole time on Funhaus and On The Spot?
What are you talking about?
Is it? Or is he social HACKING these ladies? Think again.
I see no hacking. He's not beating anyone with a baton.
He seems pretty vanilla tbh
I haven't watched that much Funhaus content but the way he talked about that made me relate to him. Lawrence Is the most human robot
Iker Echeveste I’m the most robot human
I guess we finally found out what the hell those boys over at Area 51 were doing; they were developing advanced AI and life-like looks for Lawr-bot.
Yeah. Odd considering that Lawrence, throughout the show, seems to be a very emotional (or perhaps passionate) person.
I love Lawrence both beautiful human boy, and Lawrence the quintessential gamer
R/totallynotarobot
Lawrence is a perfect guest!
I like Lawrence, he's seems so genuine
Lawrence is the best guest they had all season.
They saved the best for last
I also thought Geoff was great, and I really feel like they should do an episode with Barb, Mariel, Lawrence, and Geoff. I think that group would work really well together.
Absolutely love Laurence in this episode and in general! You be you dude! Youre bring a role model for self improvement!
Remember when Lawrence was just a laptop?
Tran Nam Evolution at it's finest
i member
He still is....
Now he's a real robot boy
A screaming voice coming from a laptop is the truest form of Lawrence.
Im a simple man.
I see Lawrence and I watch.
Now seeing Lawrence drinking right off the bat? We are in for a good time!
hello rocky
Everytime Barb says duly noted I imagine Jeremy in the corner with a note book writing down whatever was just said. "Dooley noted"
Lawrence is one of my favorite people in roosterteeth. Always interesting to hear him talk about things. So glad you had him on the show!
At Maggie's point about her looking through someone's phone:

Maggie is annoying af
Lawrence is such an awesome guest star, he's very funny!

This has been the best season so far! Thanks Barb & The Always Open crew!
Deon Spates I just came into it this season. But I regret not jumping in earlier.
I love to see the evolution of Lawrence
I love real Lawrence so much
Was any one else just smiling the entire time Lawrence was talking?
Lawrence. Three things.
1. You look GOOD
2. You do damn good boy
3. Keep moving forward
I love Lawrence's perspective on things. I really don't know anyone like him in person so it's completely refreshing and unique for me. I'm a diehard Funhaus fan but it's always nice to see calmer, genuine Lawrence like on Dude Soup.
13:04 Lawrence tries to slide in that MeUndies ad

Lawrence is a beautiful man!
Less than two minutes in and the phrase "vaginal tearing" comes up... 'sgonnabeagoodshow...
The transition from Inside Gaming to FunHaus has been one of the best thing that has happened to me. Just being able to understand the people ive been watching on a somewhat personal level is great. I just love hearing you guys talk.
It's nice to see Lawrence be real on this episode. I'm not super familiar with Funhaus but I liked learning more about him. Thanks for opening up!
Self confidence 101:

LAWRENCE?!
Oh this is gonna be great.
WHAT season finale already!?!? wow, time flies, love this show and all you people :) :) :)
Lawrence is such an introspective, open, intelligent person, I always enjoy hearing his perspective on everything, on here and on Funhaus.
I appreciate Lawrence in a different light from the character he plays on Funhaus. I guess he overdoes it sometimes a change of pace is good once in awhile.
Please bring back Lawrence for next year, this was my favorite episode of the season. Can't wait for more!
Lawrence looks so cool and nice
Hell yeah, my boy L-dawg
T I M e T o H A C k
Lawrence is my hero.
Lawrence was such a great guest! I really dig how introspective/ open this episode was! Can't wait for season 3!
God Lawrence is looking good, props to you on your health journey sir.
I'd argue that Gavin and Lawrence are the best guests they had on this season.
Best episode. Maggie is still just the cutest and Lawrence is the most intellectual and eloquent guest you've ever had
Couldn't agree less with maggie. To go on your S.O phone without permission shows you have no trust and respect. Whether you find anything or not the relationship seems tarnished.
I know this is two years later but everyone that agreed with Maggie also probably gets mad when their S.O. doesn't respond for an hour.
I really liked that last question cause it made me ask myself about it, and I didn't know I needed it but I needed that boost in confidence. Can't wait for the next season!
Yes!!! I freaking LOVE Lawrence!!
Y'all should try and have Ray Narvaez on sometimes, I feel like he'd be super interesting to have on
Tomya Pryor yeeeeeaaaaaah, he would be....interesting
Tomya Pryor I believe Barbara offered one time and he politely declined
an assortment of butt cheeks I think you might be right, but I wonder if I'm remembering correctly
As was stated on this comment Ray was invited in the past but declined the invitation, I can't remember if he gave a reason why not but yeah
an assortment of butt cheeks 😢 rip my hopes and dreams
Vote to have Texas on as a guest next season
Isique Yang ?
They want the bartender, named/called Texas, to be a full on guest and sit their the whole time.
To add to it, bring someone in as the guest, but make them struggle to be the bartender the whole time. Like someone like Ryan who doesn't drink has to make the drinks for them.
Texas: You know there are more chasers than just Diet Coke?
Ryan: I. Don't. Care!
Agreed! He was featured on a Still Open segment that was open to the public where he talks about being diagnosed with Bell's Palsy.
This show just keeps on getting better and better with each episode! I'm SO looking forward to the next season!!!
I am honestly in love with these podcasts. Always open has become a favorite of mine from Rooster Teeth
First time watcher and I watched because Lawrence was on. I'm a huge fan of FunHaus and now I'm a huge fan of Always Open! Keep up the great work! :)
Just filled out the survey, can't wait for next season! I really loved having Lawrence on this episode and would love to see him back again!
Love seeing all the friends from Sugar Pine and Fun Haus on the podcast
I love how you guys speak plainly as a human. Nobody is above all others and you show the humanity of everything. I love that Muriel and Barbara are always easy to watch
Off Topic has apparently spoiled me with a non-season based episode structure.
I have a lot of respect for Lawrence on this
Polygamy does JUST refer to marriage. Not mad, not calling anyone out. Just, that's what the word means and how people use it.
Polyamory can mean a lot of things, but it boils down to being in a relationship with more than one partner where all partners have knowledge of each other. (But people who identify as poly usually know about themselves that they prefer non-monogamous (single partner) relationships.)

Also, this episode was amazing and made me reflect a lot on my own life. Never thought I would almost be brought to tears by the quintessential gamer.
Julia Febos GET THIS COMMENT LOTS OF LIKES!
Ive got fam who's poly and they're the best. I could never do it bc ive got issues and may not exactly know the reason for it, but honestly,,,
get informed. let people know. let's get this lots of likes!!!!
When Barb asked to pause and talk to my SO, I just looked at my hand. She wants moisturizer.
What a great show! I'm at a point in my life where this is the most interesting RT content.
Damn I didn't know Lawrence was so real, my dude has grown so so much
Timmy Davis you do know he is playing a character on Funhaus right?
Maximillien Robespierre yea I know but I'm talking about since he was on IG, he has become on of my favorite FH members over the years. Im just super happy seeing Lawrence like this in off topic, its really refreshing
Why would i ever need to go to a therapist? This show has been more helpful than any Therapist i have ever been to. Thank you guys. You are the best
Two things that I love about Lawrence are that he's a completely honest and totally self-aware human being.
Honestly only just started watching this show.. but I'm annoyed at myself for missing so many in the past. Really enjoy every episode now
Lawrence!!!! Yeeeeessss!!! That's so great. Awesome show and awesome guest!
Law-Dawg in tha house
Started watching this show this year and it has made me more confident with myself and my issues. Thanks Barbara and Mariel along with the rest of The Always Open Crew!! Can't wait for Season 4!! Have A Very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not gonna lie, this has kinda become the only Podcast I watch from the RT part of the company any more. Got bored with all the others, but this one is always fresh and interesting. Can't wait for season 4!
Agreed. This show wen't right up there on my list along with the RT podcast, The Know, Off Topic, anything by AH and Burnie Vlogs.
Part of it, I believe is how they put much more effort on connecting with their audience in comparison to their other shows. They want us to respond with feedback and questions, and for the most part they respond back
Troggie42 i honestly tried to watch the rt podcast going backwards and it didn't work,,,
Relationships are harder the more you keep from each other. Can't trust your spouse than they shouldn't be your spouse.
Woah, I love the human version of Lawrence.
I was hoping Mariel would say "and I'm Mariel, from your friendly neighbourhood"
Plaza Sesamo?
Q U I N T E S S E N T I A L

Holy crap. Lawrence is the best guest the show has ever had.
Oh please, tell me they got him on the anime show while he was out...
Texas is so god damned adorable.
This was a really great episode, and I really needed to hear that whole talk about confidence. Thank you!
Only here for Lawrence.
So in short, thank you Lawrence for letting me know that there is someone who has a relation to me.
this is honestly the only content from rt i watch and ive been subbed for ages just cause of stuff way back in the day lol
SIR LARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Confidence boosting episode. Loved hearing from the quint essential gamer and Maggie! Hearing about Jack-in-the-Box is making want to go back to Texas. Can't wait for the next season!!
Would love to see Ryan Haywood and Lawrence in and episode together
iestyn jenkins just Ryan
Thats like saying i want a nuke to go off in the studio...
Seeing Lawrence in this context... he is my hero.
The people at funhaus, especially Lawrence and Adam, are excellent podcast talkers I find, i would love to hear them talk about any topic daily
Lawrence is the one Rooster Teeth member i believe i really can relate to. The small little facts he shares, knowing when to discuss and knowing when to fool around. Most of all, he's the quintessential gamer.
Yes, do an episode on your bed Barbara 😂
I'm so thankful you had lawrence on this episode! I was wondering if he'd be on at some point and I've never been happier to watch a video
Oh hey this one had my question. Dope
christian lux did they help you out or take their advice?
Well unfortunately the discussion reared its head sooner than i was ready for. Lets say it didnt turn out well but hey, i managed to avoid a toxic relationship before it got too serious
great episode to just listen to in the backround while being home for school day off :D
I can't agree with Maggie. I don't like to violate other people's privacy even if they are lying just makes me feel just as wrong.
Every time Texas shows up, I can't help but smile
Been watching Lawrence and the Funhaus crew since they were on Inside Gaming. Cool to see Lawrence in a different way here. Think I will have to watch more of this show now!
My only real want is for this show to be a little longer. I feel like there's so many times in this show where I've really wanted to hear something, whether it be a personal experience from someone, or just what they think, but it feels like it gets cut a little short.
IHave ThreeBalls: that’s what makes it good. It leaves you wanting more.
I get what you mean, but... I dunno, that kind of mentality makes sense for a TV show. But the problem is this is a podcast, and the stuff they talk about doesn't come back up in the next episode.
Well, if you're a First member, you get the post show.
Not everyone's got the money for First Member. Hell, I wish I did though..
IHave ThreeBalls I feel the exact same way and I feel like, before the post show started, they used to be longer? (Or am I just remembering wrong?)
I feel bad, but by falling for Barbara helped me get over my ex. Shes just so warm and inviting. Her smile and humor got me through some really hard times, so thank you. For being someone I can fall for, even if we will never meet.
Best part of 42:10 is the sound of the couch as he leans over
Law-er-a is a pretty chill guy. Go checkout his stream archives channel, has some sweet intermissions before or during videos.
4:27 - 'When the wind blows, when the mothers talk...'
lawrence is GOAT
so, do lawrences conservative christian parents just hate him now?
Probably not hate....but perhaps dislikes his persona and dismissive to him.
Out of all the years I've followed Lawrence & the Funhaus crew, I've never related to him (about so much) more than him being on this episode.
