I can imagine the skateboard community will be very happy with this. Fish eye is the go to lens for skateboard films
Yes but that was out of necessity, we much rather use the 14mm f1.4 and if we wanted that old School JVC Thrasher look we can add it in post. - Skater and filmmaker who has been skating for 18 years
This is a new "Holy Grail" lens for the skateboarding community. Then again, I'm just a fanboy of this lens. 😅
The rare "Hi/hey, it's me" is my absolute favorite intro by Chris
Okay
I do prefered old classic one ;)
gritings again tu ebriwon 😊😂 @@montazownianr1
I don't know him, so it's useless for me. Just here for some sample photos ...
Kudos to Sigma. This is a fantastic unique lens.
Happy to see three uploads within the day 🙏
6:40 Have you ever seen the incredible Hubble Deep Field? Thousands of galaxies visible from one tiny patch of the night sky. Simply breathtaking to consider all of that exists in that tiny region of the sky.
This is one impressive lens! Definitely one of the most interesting E-mount lens in the last 2yrs. Can't wait to see what Sigma cooks up next
Oh wow, thats an incredibly performing lens! Sigma outdid themselves here.
Great test as always. Fantastic to see those companies trusting you with testing those unreleased products!
Let me just add, that nikons 6mm fisheye had a tripod collar too, but I'm not sure if you would want to count that.
This is one of the most interesting lenses released in the last year and there have been a lot of intersting lenses.
The price isn't too bad. The Canon EF 8-15 is £1300+ (and out of stock) on WEX, the Nikon F 8-15 is £1450. Nothing much native for RF or Z except much cheaper and inferior lenses or manual focus ones. It's the kind of lens, if you need it, you'll know it. Great for 360 panorama work and super wide sky shots amongst other things. It's a wonderful new lens for Sony shooters who otherwise would need to adapt other lenses and the quality looks fantastic for a fisheye. Thanks as always for your excellent reviews.
Holy fishcakes!!! Was just dreaming of this seeing lens, and you already have a video of it up!!! While flabbergasted, I have to say, thank you for your wonderful reviews!!! 🙏
Not sure I 100% agree with people saying it's the first native fisheye AF lens for Sony E. It kinda is since it's a single lens but it's also true that the 28mm with adapter has been available for years. That combo (SEL057FEC + SEL28F20) has worked decently for me though I have always wished Sony would come out with their own proper fisheye.
I was hoping the Sigma would be smaller and replace the Sony combo when I first heard the news but...alas.
For those saying you don't need a fisheye, you are missing the point. They make interesting images and, when you run across a subject that would look cool shot with a fisheye, it's nice to have one in your bag. Some of my favorite shots over the years were made with fisheyes, so I have carried one for every system I have owned (Nikon, Oly/Pany, Sony).
Wow what a lens and build quality. Expensive but you can clearly see why 😍
8:10 love the music from The Sims!
I was curious if anyone else noticed this. Childhood memories came alive with this soundtrack.
Coma is really well controlled here, excellent
The price reminds me of when Sigma released the 28mm and 40mm ART lenses. They were niche and crazy expensive for their first few years and then they came down in price (and are the best ART lenses ever made)
Yep, have them both.
Going on a tour to old industrial places in North Rhine-Westphalia in a couple of weeks. This might come in very handy in tight places, when the 12-24 GM is not enough. Thanks for the review! 😊👍
Gorgeous and sharp lens! Shame Canon still has not opened RF for other companies
"This lens does come with one of Sigma's excellent bags, but it is not image stabilized." - What I would do for an image stabilized bag.
what a funky lens
If this wasn't fisheye then I think this would be a great companion to my Sigma 20MM f/1.4 Art, which you tested and know how excellent that lens is. But if I did need a fisheye then I think this is the way I would go. You can't beat that wide aperture. Thanks for the review!
Thank you.
The OG Sony FF e mount 28mm f2 ziess lens had a fisheye and 20mm adapter for it really good and dropped only a stop of light
This looks interesting.
Wow, that's impressive! Now that Sigma has brought out the new f/1.4 in 14mm and now this 15mm fisheye lens I am seriously thinking of selling my Canon Ra camera and switching over to Sony just for these and the rest of the fantastic 3rd party lenses on offer to Sony. Getting really tired of waiting for Canon to wake up with their dismal lens selection and 3rd party RF choice. It's really tough to keep holding on trying to be loyal to Canon.
Fantastic review as always ✨😉
If you are ever up or fancy a trip up to Aberdeenshire/Grampian Mountains then look us up for a meet up 👍😊
The lack of coma is probably the most impressive thing about this lens, and there are quite a few things like that as it would seem.
Can use cpl filter for this lens and for sigma 105mm f1.4 ?
2 Reviews at the same time! What a treat ! (or an accident ?)
They just got announced at the same time, so reviewers can publish their videos about them at the same time as well
1:13 Beautiful shot
I love your work Christopher, but have a slight criticism. The corner sharpness test struck me as a bit inaccurate as the focal distance in the center of the frame was very different from the focal distance to the corner of the frame. I would have expected the corner to be out of focus in comparison to the center and stopping down increases the depth of field, bringing it into focus. But it is obviously hard to find a scene to photograph with a uniform focal distance at such a wide angle.
Do Sigma provide the correction files to get rectilinear image in post?
I believe there is software for fish eye images that does a better job than using a lens profile.
Regarding how this lens was born, perhaps a side product of the new 14/1.4 development?
1800 is pretty cheap for a 1.4 fisheye AF lens of this quality. It's a niche lens alright but for specific types of photography/ers it will be a holly grail.
I absolutely love what Sigma is doing. They're filling that spot Sony refuses to. We NEED more unique glass on the market. I just may pick this up.
Lens like this would be so nice to get one day, but sadly the price is way too much.
impressive...
I wish Sigma would go into charity for just one day for me personally.
What a cool lens.
Between the lack of warping in the corners and very poor close up performance, I wonder if this is a unit focus lens. Not an issue, just would be surprising for such an ambitious lens.
VS Sigma 14mm f1.4?
Bummer, that Sigma seems to have become an E-Mount only brand in recent years. They make some really cool stuff.
maybe...
what's next? f/1.4 circular fisheye?
I love astro photography, this will create new possibilities. I have a Canon camera. Canon is making me sad. Great review
what!! 15 mm 1.4 😳
while the IQ and overall quality is highly appreciated, it is funny how Sigma is consolidating their lens size recently: while wide lenses build large, they make "small" the long telephoto one (500/5.6) 😅
Such a fun lens!
And my goodness - Christopher is certainly among the most lovely hearted fellow on UA-cam.
Thanks for sharing that photo showing some of the glory of Gods creation :)
Not to belittle Sigma's achievments I find it strange that it's hard to come by a lens which has some quality compromises in favour of weight advantage, am I wrong? I bought an old Sigma 15mm fisheye recently, it's 2.8 and it's very light, why is there nothing like it today?
You did just say you bought it recently. Most people equate "recently" with "available today." The people running Sigma definitely do.
Salvadore Dali would love a fishye lens
This 15mm f/1.4 is extraordinary, but who needs a fisheye?
I hate it when my carry case isn't image stabilized.
If they had a Z mount I’d buy it in a hot second.
Yes you only live once Mr Bond..
I don’t get why they release a 15 and a 14mm.
The 14mm has a 114 degree angle of view. The 15mm has a 180 degree angle of view. Per B&H.
6:37 Sorry, that's not what I believe. But we can agree that it's humbling either way.
Why would you apologize for not believing something? Especially something he didn't ask you to believe? I think what you really mean is "Sorry [in advance, because I am about to say something offensive, but I want to pretend like I am still actually a good person, that being offensive is allowed as long as I apologize for it]. At least you imply that you believe in something. That is better than most people these days, and part of why the young generations are so lost and confused and destroying society.
Sigma's autofocus is always lacking.
Hi Chris please do review on fuji 8-16 f2.8. i am keep on asking but no reply from you. please we are waiting for that review. Thanks.
What a great Job sigma! Making canon, Fuji, Nican shooters jealous 😂. Sigh…
Too bad they didn't release a Sigma 14mm f1.8 mkII :/
"Just look at the glory of God's creation." Amen brother.
I've been looking forward to your review of this lens. Thank you.
Too expensive
Pls retest the image quality with your standard method
lens too wide and distorted
And the minimum focus distance is too short. I do not think he can come close to testing the corners with his chart.
Glory of god's creation? Which god exactly? Must make sure we're not talking about false gods here.
God has many names, and none of them matter. The gratitude, awe, inspiration, and personal insignificance brought on by admiring the heavens is what matters.
Fish eye lenses are just the most useless lens ! Over $1000 dollars . Buy rectilinear wide angles because they are useful .
Niche, not useless. Underwater photography is the elephant in the room here, while fisheye astro is pretty popular with the Olympus 8mm 1.8.
Just because you can't understand why someone wants this doesn't mean they're wrong. Chances are you have a gap in your knowledge
