I would love to see more inclusive dance companies everywhere, as I'm also a person with a disability who would have loved to have had this opportunity. I've only had a handful of experiences with choreographers who are/were willing to "change" their planned choreography when they saw me roll into the room.
+alisoncarville We would love to see that, too! Thank you for sharing with us!

This deserves more screen time than make up hair dye videos
Great video. I go to a liberal arts performing arts college in my city, and a lot of the student body are dance majors who more often than not always talk about this issue of "not fitting the mold". I really enjoyed this video and its true more things should be inclusive.
I absolutely love this!
Need stuff like this on the east coast. Great post!

This really encourages me. I love to dance but I have a mysterious ligament condition (probably EDS or some other hypermobility syndrome) that lets my bones get progressively out of place with every motion. Standing for long periods is becoming difficult, but I still dance. 💖 A friend of mine out it Humboldt is a dance teacher, and she let me practice sitting down until my knees let me work for a time. Sending this to her!
This is amazing! As of right now, the dance world is not inclusive at all and I love that there are people out there trying to change it!
+ploi Us too! :)
This is so beautiful 🥰❤️

I want to join! I was born with out hip sockets and after 16 years I was a miracle who was on the dance company presidency a forest ranger for 7 yrs and a firefighter. I was in medical journals, had a perfect son even though I was told by every Dr. that was impossible. Then when my son was 6 my Dr. recommended that I see a orthopedic Dr. to scope my cartilage loss. He broke my femur and put a huge bar in my leg ,crooked. I went through 5 surgeries in 2 years 23 discolcations and a blood infection that almost killed me removing almost all my muscle in my hip and legs and destroyed my backside. I had tried to walk but it made my knee valgus and it tor the munissccas in my knee putting me in a wheelchair for ten years isolated and lost. I never gave up for my son and had to go through it all again but harder this time and no help or love or friends. I am having my 40 something last surgery on my knee in a few days and then I will after over a decade of crying everynight and fear walk again. I still dance and can't wait to really stand tall even though I have a crooked body I will straighten it again. I am damn good at dancing I bet you would be surprised most people are, the two I showed. I am so tired so I am sorry to ramble but please respond if you are adding anyone to your company. Thank you Stephanie
First!
😱🥺✨
Is that Mia from ‘Push Girls’?
yup
We're you inspired by Axis Dance Company in Oakland? I danced with them for 2 years.
I love how she doesn't see disability as an "alien". Even though I am not disabled myself I have friends that are disabled and I see how people look at then.
Stroke survivor? Are we just naming everything now? Next time I introduce myself I'm gonna add chickenpox and surgery survivor.
I think what this video was talking about is really important but it also made it sound like shes looking for someone to go wow, have a gold star sticker. Hope this isn't more tokenism
Each person has a story. If overcoming your challenges led to a path to make a difference in other people's lives, you have full right to embrace that.
