alias privacy Yeah a lot of people think that, and it's true. Well really each colossus' dark energy is basically a severed part of Dormin and they all come together and posses the Wanderer.
The Last Guardian IS the 17th colossus. ;) That's why it's called "The Last Guardian", because remember, many of the Colossi were called "Guardians". Ico was going to be killed. Why? Because he had horns and boys with horns are a bad omen in that world. But why was this significant? Well, I believe that horned boys are the descendants of Wanderer (who was a horned baby at the end of SotC) and, just like him, eventually become colossi themselves at a certain age because they have the spirit or Dormin (in some diminished way) within them. All the shadows which attack you in Ico, are horned boys who have been killed. They are also, shadows of the would be colossi...The creature, or should I say, small colossus in The Last Guardian, is, in my opinion, the older brother of the little boy in the game. If you notice, his horns aren't sharp, someone tried to cut them off. Maybe his parents, hoping that'd prevent the transformation. Maybe villagers, who knows, but clearly, it didn't work. So the boy ran away with his brother, and this explains the deep connection they have. It's not just his pet, it's his family. They probably ran away without thinking about where they were going and now need to make it to a safer place. Thanks for reading!
***** I made a comment once, talking about how beautiful this one girl was. It got like 400 likes. Hahaha! I come back to this, there's one. ;_; Thank you!
+MrOmniblast - The horns grew as the game progressed (after ever 4 colossi killed) - he didn't arrive with horns. And wasn't there a baby with horns at the end too? Was that the Wanderer?
The kubster Right, he didn't arrive with horns. Never said he did. He was being infused with the shadows of the colossi and he grew horns. But who had horns from the get go? ICO! Who is almost CERTAINLY his descendant. That baby? Yes, it was Wanderer, 100% Remember, he was pulled into the pool and "purified", but Dormin is so strong that it was only a partial purification leaving some of the demonic spirit in them which, I think, matures over time and turns them into a colossus. Notice also that Ico and Wander wear very similar clothing. Might be nothing, but it seems like they're from either the same village, town, or something of the like. Even the priest has similar patterns on his clothing. Also, the priest knows who Wander is to begin with. (Wander may have heard Dormin's story from that priest who just didn't think he'd be that fucking stupid as to go to the forbidden lands)
This game is just far too beautiful and mystical to let go the idea of there being intricate secrets. The way they crafted the world to be explored in a million different ways just begs for deep digging. I remember dedicating a few hours one day myself a couple years ago to finding the hidden colossus. Just riding around the beautiful environment on Agro and hoping to find something, it was a really adventurous feeling. I hope people continue to keep that alive with this game.
+Joe houghton ya they are all amazing. Also the Last Guardian thing makes sense because the collosi were the guardians of the devil thing who's name escapes me at the moment.
pikeman smoshman Thing i found most interesting is that Duku, or whatever birddog's name is, has the blue horns (albeit cut off) like some colossi do, and his/her eyes turn red when it gets spooked by the eye thing, similar to how colossi's eyes go red when hurt or angry.
Well, we got the last Guardian in the end ; ) That's something to be proud of! Great game - one of the best games I've ever played, so visceral and emotional! As for secrets in Shadow - we got the PS4 version with new Last Big Secret 'relics' hunt... totally unexpected and fun to play around with. Takes days to find all 79 relics in order to find the 'Last Big Secret'. So in the end, we have got what we had dreamed about for many years... except perhaps an alternate ending and reaching the top of the temple!
I wish they would... but doubt it. It's probably one of those situations where adding it, would just anger a particular part of the fanbase anyway. It's sad, 'cause I'll spend way more time then I should from tomorrow to get back up that tower and just be disappointed again. It's one of those NewGame+ Secrets you expect to have a pay off, and it just leaves you hanging.
What if on the lead developers death bed he just whispered "There's a 17th." and he told the rest of the crew when he died to initiate the code to let it out into the world throughout all PS2's.
Noel Brown Me too. This game is amazing and i hope that someone will make a similar game with the same nostalgia feel. *With a secret last boss ofcourse*
Noel Brown back when games like the binding of issac(the remake of which is the best game ever mad) didn't exist and rougelite games weren't very popular/didnt exist?sounds awful
The music from the game worked well with this vid too. Yea - my mind has been officially blown... It feels so odd to have this come out after all these years and in a way is justice to the creators original view/fantasy of this world...
There's probably never going to be a sequel for this as the dev team is more focused on creating new games rather than follow-ups (disregarding fan theories). So I think the most fair compromise for fans is to make a moddable version where players can customize their own colossi and share them to allow others to defeat them. Maybe even a customizable map, characters and cutscenes? Think of it as a Mario Maker for Shadow of the Colossus. That would be the ultimate love letter to the fan base from Ueda.
There might not ever be a true sequel made by the original dev team, but, the full complete "Preay For The Gods" is very close to being released. It's without question a spiritual successor to "Shadow Of The Colossus" & from the looks of it with it's many boss fights & fairly big map to explore, fans of S.O.T.C. should be very happy with this new game. I know I'm excited!
I found the 17th colossus in the secret garden. It was gigantic and shaped like a bird, much like avio but couldn't fly very well. I guess it was Phoenix. On my stopwatch it took 18:15:62 to beat the thing and ...... then i woke up.
Yes Ps2 Graphics is Good on soc= Shadow of the colosus in that type of which has a secert the 17 boss is 82 percent true and 18 percent lie the temple 17 boss is the lower and 500 ft longer then last boss but he is too weaker his armour is only taking 1 arrow to break it more information Reply me thanks!
Daniel Neary well i wanted 48 at least 24 because they all looked cool did you know that there was one good collusi but team ico cut it because it was to big and needed a big arena it was the worm BUT PREY OFF THE GODS LOOKS GREAT
neo runner yeah, I kind of agree. Have you heard the music that was supposed to play for worm in game? It's called "final battle". Because worm was meant to be the final boss of the game before it was cut.
If you didn't already know, there's a fan-made game in construction. It's called: "Beyond the Forbidden Lands" which has all the cut colossi and content. Also, there actually is a alternate ending. I can't remember how it works, but it something to do with a ICO save file, and a Shadow of the Colossus save file.
There's no alternate ending. People have speculated that, if you had an ICO save file, the ending would be different. But many tried it, and the ending was the exact same one we always get. The developer said he wanted to add an alternate ending but I think (don't quote me on this) he had to cut it due to time constraints.
I remember actually making it to the garden area on PS2 without cheat codes or anything. I was so thrilled with myself and I didn't mind that the area was bare, I was just happy to have made it there and to take it all in. Amazing game.
Whats taken so long for a new episode of this? This series covers some of the most interesting and thought provoking things in gaming. Every episode sends chills down my spine just thinking about all the hidden content and secret areas in gaming that may have never been discovered, and it makes me want to pop in an old video game and go investigate the myths and legends that old school gaming always left around, before the internet and easier hacking tools made them easier to find and less mysterious. This is my favorite "show" on UA-cam, or hell my favorite show in general, for sure, keep it up! I love every minute of it!
Easy, they were actually moving to another office and whatnot. It wasn't all research and waiting, they were moving during that time period. Though, they haven't uploaded an episode for a month now ( So much for being monthly again xd ), so whatever is their excuse now is a mystery to me.
These episodes are truly a testament to all hard core gamers. Who'd thought so much more existed after beating a game. Well thanks to these people, I now know. :) No words to describe my appreciation.
Isn't it beautiful that there are games like this that's so immersive you resort to hacking and devoting precious time in search for things, outside the game itself, that might/might not be there because the game sparked your curiosity and imagination genuinely? I sincerely hope that our generation is not hopeless yet and someone out there somewhere will make a game that's as good, if not much better, than this one.
You know what would be awesome? If one day someone actually found the myth that is the 17th. They kill it, screen fades to black. Text appears; "The Last Guardian - "release date>"
Hey nomad,i think that i found out where the gargoyle colossi (forget his name) arena is,well to be quick it is in the mountain that surrounds the 7 colossi arena
D'Angelo Cowherd It wasn't a matter of the number of colossi, but rather the map they had created that they didn't want to do over again to fit a bunch more colossi.
+Sai Mohamed You need to be in the right spot for just triangle to work if not you jump around like a jackass. The register box to press triangle should of been larger.
Why hasnt there been a kickstarter for fans of SOTC to raise money for Ueda to make an Ultimate edtition with the original 24 (or the 48 originally planned if its a fuck ton of money) altarnate endings but keeping the original one as true cannon, more items (like the colossus eye) due to the obvius increase of time trials because of the 24, and if the amount raised is fucking crazy then add the artbook translated from japanese plus a way to learn to speak the language used in the game, like seriously, WHY HAVENT ANYONE DONE THAT?!! i would've give 10 dolars every month until Ueda feels like its enough!!!!
Yeah well for what you said i would like to clarify that: i do want all the 48 and im aware of the map changes if that happens as ueda once said regarding that matter, but also that if at least the 24 happen it would alter the original, in that sense then i would also like to add an original mode of the game with just the 16 colossi in the original map, you know, an HD Remake of the original masterpiece, just with some polish here and there to make it look gorgeous. It'd even be nice if just the hd remake happens, for the next gen consoles to have in their repertoire cause its sad that, back in the 64-bits era (or even since the 16-bits) most of the games tried to evolve, trying to create unique experiences for the gamer, and sometimes even giving life lessons through them and they achieved that all the way up to the ps2 era even with the limitations that they had back then. And now with all this technology of today big developers care little to any about an nice story, or a good adventure, or even to give a vision on things that may happen in your life like STOC did with the question "How far will you go for love?"; nowadays its all about the online, the multiplayer, dlc, fps and graphics (for most of the games not all, i know some good games exist today but those are mainly made by indie devs so it limits the possibilities a lil bit). So just having a beatiful remake of STOC to slap minecraft and cod kids in the face to give them a little sense of what makes a good game good would be nice. Also i do know about The Last Guardian but i didnt mention this, the kisckstarter should happen after that game gets released (as soon as the game is out the better), but knowing that its been almost 2 years since it was announced i do agree that this dream will have to begin sometime far away from today. But as the devs of Mirrors Edge 2 stated for their game, this game should be out when its done, so it wont have an stated date of release for that matter. Ans +aczom2 its better if we all just dream of gorgeous things from time to time, but i really aprecate your pov of this idea of mine and it kinda gave me a sense of the time it would take for this to be done. Its sad but unfortunately its true :c
People will always find a way to Exploit games to find the smallest secret in it,No matter what they are hidden bosses/Easter eggs/developers Signatures.etc
I'm honestly more interested in knowing the unknown origins of the Colossi. Like, what are they? Where did they come from? Why do they exist? What was their purpose? To me, that sounds more worthy for a SotC lore theory than wondering if there's another 17th Colossus.
Terry McGinnis The Future Batman I always had two theories based on the Colossi. The first was that each one was a warrior that followed the same path that Wander did, then turned into one and tries to stop anyone from falling for the same trick and unleashing the evil. Second is that they were created to keep the evil in, in the beginning i think (can't remember specifically) the narrator says that each Colossus was created as a being of light. So anyone trying to unleash evil, would be an enemy to the Colossi. Just some of my thoughts.
Terry McGinnis The Future Batman Well actually Dormin at the end said that "they" took his/her power and divided it on the 16 Colossi, which means that those things are guardians of the Dormin's power, I guess that the Colossi were to be a test to human strength. They were suppose to be invencible without the sword Wander was carrying. They were a key to unleash the beast. It's weird that if you want to seal the evil there's always a way to release it again, but i guess that if you made a mistake by sealing an innocent you can release him/her.
+Terry McGinnis The Future Batman dormen is a corupted god in belives of the people there he was a good god and gave life and stuff like that but really he make's collosi from all people that try to save/get powers at the end wander become's a collosus or atleast i think so :D
The video game crime of all time is that there was only one game. One of the greatest of all time and there was only one, but we get dozens of grand theft auto clones.....That's a crime.
Beverly Hyland I never considered those two connected myself. Other than similar game design. But ICO is a great game in its own right. That being said, fighting off shadow people and bringing down giants, is hardly the same.
Zeng Vuh i agree i feel like games have seriously declined over the years, now the only thing anyone cares about are graphics and online play. What happened to those amazing story lines that took us years to beat. GTAV pissed me off so much, beat it in a week, San Andreas took so long and most people didn't even know what the game was about. or what about Sonic Adventure great story line amazing gameplay sweet graphics for that time and it took forever to beat honestly this is why i'm going to school studying Game Designing
It's a shame that they had to cut the number of Colossi. Some of the designs seem to be freaking impressive but hey. Maybe someday, we'll get a sequel to this awesome Game.
Shadow of the Colossus will always be my favorite game. I remember as a 13 year old kid, spending hours trying the find that last 17th colossi, i really did believe that it existed, and wanted to find it that bad. Love the mystical feeling this game have.
***** And i didn't mean announced as in this is the first time we heard of it ever existing. It was talked about on Xplay yearrrrs ago when i was still young i meant it was announced with a actual real time slot of release.
+n543576 It was going to come anyways. I was assuming they took a long time to make a really good game, far superior than the old ones obviously and to capture the meaning of the story towards the audience fantasy wise.
OMG!!! I found the 69th colossus! You have to get a noclip mod, fly around the map 420 and then 360 noscope the top of the tower and suddenly the 69th colossus will spawn well smoking weed with 21 snoop doggs. SMOKE WEED EVERY DAY!
I have been following Nomad and Pikol and followed all kinds of information found within the catacombs of SoTC's data, and I can say this is an incredebly good video for introducing new players to the secrets and studies that this lovely fanbase have worked it's way through within these 9 years. Summing it all up, loved the video.
I remember back then whin i first played the game did not have internet and someone at school told me if you reach the top of the starting temple you can find a secret coloss and poison arrows.. i finished the game around 16 times in order to have enough stamina but sadly did not find any fight or item up there..still those were some great times...not just googling something up, just get yourself so deep into the game that you can explore these kinda things. I cant think of anything i'd want more in the gamingworld atm then another Title like Shadow of the Colossus, great music, the gameplay itself was not a good as i found out after playing it again like a year ago but yet still in my memories this game was just amazing. We dont need thousands of cutscenes and god knows what. Just an amazing beautiful world, insane bossfights and the game is set to be fun. I never forgot any of the fights in this game since they all felt like you worked for the kill. 10/10 would play again and again and again (even with knowing there is no 17th coloss :( )
+Erik Berndt Seems more like an issue of development purgatory. I don't think that time really matters on games, you have to think that some of the best and even some of the biggest games in history were rushed and done in a couple years.
Wow... Not till I saw the description - did I notice this vid just came out like 2-3 months ago... Yet it's been almost a decade since original and well what 3 yrs since the HD version? God I just feel so grateful for everyone solving the pieces of this puzzle and determining the ultimate truth of the myth of the 17 CS. I am very happy to of known a game that was more than just any game at all. Sadly though all good things must come to an end but memories are forever. Still so much to ponder on Team Ico and what lies ahead for them in the future...
The fact we are still talking about this game as often as we do, and folks like Nomad make those fantastic exploration videos surely suggests to the studio, we we just want more of this game. Please make more of this game devs.
I hope they remaster this game on ps4 and they introduce 48 colossus. It would be really radical but since the last guardian will never be out might as well give team ico something to do.
I played it when I was a kid and always went to the beach in that game. something so simple can have so much information and can make the player think. GREAT JOB!!
I laughed so hard when they said originally he wanted 48 Colossi. I just imagine them asking Ueda "Okay how many colossi do you want? Pick a number" Ueda - "48!" "Okay pick a smaller number."
drumd00d Hello. Just like every year I search for hints that TLG will be showed this year. My favourite hints this year are: A Sony executive showed a piece of paper, with "The Last Guardian" written on it and said: "We all know what you want, but good things take time" Another Sony executive wrote on his twitter account: "There will be something great for PS4 at the end of this year" He could mean Uncharted 4, but by the time he postet this, Uncharted 4 already had its "End of 2015"-Release. Now U4 has been moved to 2016. Naughy Dog always released it´s games every 2 years, and the gameplay showcase looked almost like a finished game. And considering they work on U4 for about 3 and a 1/2 years now, they could have finshed it. And if there is another great game coming at the end of this year, it must be something, that has some development time. Gran Turismo 7? Maybe, but U4 is coming Spring 2016. Would Sony realese their two best known franchises in so little time? They need something for late 2016, too. So, could it be The Last Guardian? Maybe this was the main reason, while U4 comes out 2016. Since it´s Sony´s biggest franchise, it doesn´t really need the "Christmasbooster". And yes the game could be The Last Guardian, but there is so much guessing in my conclusion that I am pretty sure, it won´t happen :( But at least I can hope and hope dies last.
Dormin is the 17th colossus. It's obvious because at the end of the game, Dormin takes control of you using each soul you took from the 16 colossi you killed/defeated. Malus is the 16th colossus so Dormin has to be the 17th. Valus, Quadratus, Gaius, Phaedra, Avion, Barba, Hydrus, Kuromori, Basaran, Dirge, Celosia, Pelagia, Phalanx, Cenobia, Argus, Malus, and finally, Dormin.
I really think Sony messed up. They should have released Shadow of the colossus 2, which featured the rest of the unused colossi and some new gameplay elements for PS3, then made The Last Guardian for PS4. In any case, the ps3 is a piece of garbage. It's a hellish nightmare of an environment to work in. No surprise at all that the Last Guardian didn't get released.
I would have liked, rather than an SotC2, some sort of Remastered or Ultimate that included the 8 unused Colossi, and since the devs themselves said they wanted a different ending, it would only be fitting if the ultimate version included that as well.
There's just one problem. Shadow of the Colossus left no room for a sequel, and making one would've only destroyed everything the first game had established. As Typheus already said, some kind of Ultimate version with extra content would've been the way to go.
You CAN reach the garden at the top of the main temple. I've done it myself. While climbing the vines to the top of the temple, use the diagonal jump to zig zag your way up to the top. The zig zag jump uses a fraction of your stamina. You can beat the game once and you will have enough stamina to get there. If you eat the fruit you lose max health permanently
I finish the game in my mobile device using an emulator app .. and I find out that the 17th collosi is your character possessed by Dormin.. . what a sad ending .. 😞 Now I'm trying to finish the hard mode to see if there's other features or discoveries will unlock .. I currently on the 15th collosi .
Oh boy. Not EVERYONE needs to share the same sense of aesthetic. People have different tastes but it does not mean they're inferior. If they don't think the game is beautiful then that's their opinion and it isn't wrong. Just like yours isn't wrong. These aren't facts we're talking about here
You know, I understand there are people with different views on this, but seriously, you should respect the gamers who believe in this and still search for the answers. Like it was said in the interview, it really does take away the romance of it if you just give it all away and debunk it. Like GTA SA Bigfoot, is it real? Who knows, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. While there's no definite proof it's there, there's also no definite proof it isn't, unless somebody were to look at all the files etc then fair enough. But seriously, a game like this, it holds many mysteries and wonders, I think I prefer the answer remained unknown, to me there's just such a good feeling of always knowing there is the unknown within the game, we may see it at some point, we may not. Again, it's the romance of it all, the thrill of knowing there are gaming myths. It just gives me a funny feeling inside, like a sensation. But there we go, I've said my piece.
Guts It's like a cultural phenomenon here, I've noticed. People attend to conversations and post whatever without even reading what has been said. This was interesting case since there were only two posts.
Now imagine, just IMAGINE if they came back to this game and decided to go all out with the new system hardware and indeed create a new version with all 42 colossi in it. SotC is a truly epic and mindblowing game. Both SotC and Ico STILL look awesome when compared to today's games. These are games you do not simply play, you experience them. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. We NEED more games like this today.
Well, the last guardian did come out and in the remake it seemed like we could finally find the 17th colossus, and what did they gave us? Black glowing sword.
@@yeetmcyeetalot5979 that would be a remaster, not a remake. A remake should be the one that adds content, not the one that is "better graphics and thats it lol"
Just one thing I have to say about the "mysterious" textures: 1. boss_worm: That texture is used after defeating the colossi, it's for the weird tentacle/worm things that spew out of the dead colossi. 2.serious: That's just a colossi skin texture. (DISCLAIMER) I just wanted to point out the textures' uses, that's all. Edit: I have no idea about the idol picture
So was the point of the secret garden on top of the building? They obviously at some point wanted the player to climb it, maybe before fighting the last Colossus.
That secret garden is where the ending of the game takes place. It wouldn't be strange if they build the area for the final cutscene and then left it in the playable game as a hidden easter egg (That or they were too lazy to remove it)
***** If you eat the fruit your health meter decreases too and I remember hearing that it was supposed to be an area the player would frequently go to.
All these years and I still feel like there's something secret we haven't found, in Shadow of the Colossus. Even though I know that there's nothing else.. it still feels like something is hidden. Hopefully the re-release/remake adds the secrets and mysteries we crave. It still bothers me that there's so much to explore in this massive game, yet there's almost nothing to find.
Wouldnt it be awesome if they did an HD remake of shadow of the colossus, with all the 46 planned colossus,a bigger world, alternate endings,an online mode with extra items, challenges and event based colossus to fight with your friends? Imagine leading a team of 4-8 players to track down an undiscovered colossus. Sadly, thats never going to happen. Good thing the last guardian is till in development,it was dissapointing to hear back then that it was canceled, cant wait to get my hands on it.
+lexzeyfercronus reading this: "yes....yes...oh...no...no...nooooo" multiplayer SotC and etc like that?? no way, completely would ruin the feel, mood, and entire purpose of the game
online fuck no extras like cooler swords or something sure time based= hard mode or time trials and only multi player if and only your on the same colossus
It sucks that we will never see a shadow of the colossus game sequel of some kind with more colossus to fight and even possibly have the cut colossi to show up and fight. This game deserves so much.
I went looking for an alternate ending once. I was inspired by something I heard in an interview with Ueda about the fruits in the secret garden. As many players know, those fruits, if eaten, reduce your maximum health and grip gauge. Ueda made a remark that perhaps those fruit were more benign than they appeared, as all the other food in the forbidden lands took Wander further from being human, while these restored humanity. My theory was that if Wander could reach the gates out of the forbidden land "untainted", he'd be able to escape. I ended up doing this on a new game plus, I made an effort to increase my health and grip as little as possible in the first playthrough, and immediately made my way to the garden on the second, eating all the fruit I could find. Then I climbed down to the bridge and ran across (it's really long, it must have taken 10 minutes to reach the other side on foot). Of course, when I reached the path leading out, a strong wind pushed me back, leaving me unable to escape. More recently I've been thinking more about interpreting the story in various ways, the way you would a great work of literature. I think that may be the natural evolution of people's obsession with this game, now that all the secrets in the games code have been discovered.
When you can get to the garden at the top of the shrine try eating all the fruit then beating malice and see if you can die during when you play as dormin
It is one of the great tragedies of the internet that Gametrailers is no more and Popfiction is no longer around. Even Easy Allies' Game Slueths hasn't posted anything in years :(
I actually believe that in the lore that might be another secret Colossus. As far as we know the Colussus were Gurdions holding the evil power from the evil mask. Now if you didn't finish the game than spoiler alert, you die, your loved one comes back to life but you become a baby without her knowing that the baby is her lover been rebirthed. Still she takes the baby and adopts him. Now in The Last Gurdion, you see kid running away for safety who might be the same baby from the ending but 12 years after. Why was he imprisoned? Maybe he still holds some of the evil power of the mask, and then the Gurdiion who is probably the 17th Colussus, is bound in some way to protect the child as part of his duty.
Probably alone on this, but I think 16 is the right number. I wouldn't really want more because the game is just the right size to me, but I do wish the smaller ones were replaced with actual colossi, and I don't like the ones that shoot energy balls or whatever. Kind of lame imo
Yes, I was really disappointed when Daniel told me what Ueda had said. I think he was taking the party line (so as not to get in trouble with the higher ups in Sony). If he had responded positively to that question he may have been worried that other fans would hack Sony games to find secrets (which happens in any case). In fact, I never mentioned the word 'hacking' to Daniel, he gave me three questions to ask which were: 1) Where on the map were the 8 discarded colossus 2) What was the purpose of the Dam at I2 on the map 3) Was it ever possible to climb to the very top of the Shrine of Worship. Seems he only asked two of my three questions though ; )
A game that never gets old. You get tired of playing it for a while, but eventually you want to come back to it again. Only problem is, once you know how to beat a colossus, the most entertaining part of the game, the puzzle, is never as fun after the first time.
This video is just what I needed, I've been trying to put pieces of 'secrets' from the game together ever since reading Nomad's blog on the six unused colossi. It puts all the pieces I've been looking for all in one place--thanks to everybody who has spent so much time researching and investigating every single bit this game has to offer!
I kinda feel it shouldn't.... The game, as it is, upon ending, gave me a feeling that I can't describe with words... I felt sort of hollow within.... Something that no other game has ever managed... Those mysteries remind me about game even today, of what could have been.... And I don't want that feeling to ever change... Its a mystery I am willing to die with...
I actually once found a glitched spot in the ending where if you just keep jumping away towards the side from the thing that is trying to suck you up, you can find a spot to rest and recover and then keep trying to jump away, but you can’t go any further cause there’s a invisible wall.
Rockcroc2000 that is true but in only a technicality. Physically he turned into the spirit of all the colossuses combined. Thus turning him into a sort of a shadow of colossus, hence the name of the game.
This game was so brilliant. It was simple yet so deep. It made your imagination go wild. No NPCs no villages, no loot system, just a empty world with 16 Colossus. This has to be one of my top 5 games of all time. Heres my list: 1. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 2. Red Dead Redemption 3. Shadow of the Colossus 4. The Legend of Zelda ocarina of time 5. Skyrim
I know that there was a sequel to Shadow of the Colossus, but I think a new game with the 8 cut colossi would be an interesting follow up. Perhaps 8 new colossi or more could join said originals. I just find it a little sad to know that there are 8 colossi whose stories have yet to be seen, and will likely end up that way in obscurity.
When I heard he originally wanted 48 colossi, I yearned for a SotC sequel that lets him do what he wants. He can even throw in multiplayer now, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY. I enjoyed last guardian, but it lacked the amazing, gigantic, mysterious world to discover and mysteries to wonder at. I remember using the diagonal jump glitch and reaching the top of the shrine as a kid on the ps2. He forgot to mention that yes, you can eat the fruit from the trees, but they each REDUCE your maximum stamina. Oh well, here's hoping Prey to the gods will turn out good
I would kill to know what alternate ending he wishes he would have put. Damn. An alternate ending would clear up so much i feel. Why couldnt they have added it into the ps3 version of the game? I feel so unloved.
Another Ending (from the art book) The voice you can hear after defeating a Colossus is calling out to restrain Wander. At first you can only hear breathing, but as the girl begins to gain consciousness, she starts speaking to Wander. You can never escape the black bands that pierce Wander’s body after you defeat one of the creatures. It’s sad that you can’t change the reality of the situation. Actually, we also had happier developments in mind for the ending, but perhaps there is no happier ending than being able to revive the girl. We were considering having the ending change a little bit if the player had save data from Ico, but we gave up on that. Another idea was having the girl come back to life earlier on. She would awaken in the midst of Emon and his men tormenting Wander, very far from being human, her body radiating light. A guard would see this and try to kill her with his sword, but it would be flung away and become embedded in the earth. Emon and his men would run away in a hurry and seal the land once more, and Wander and the girl would be left behind to start a new life together. Originally, we had it so Wander’s body would grow each time he defeated a Colossus, and we were thinking of doing something along the lines of Beauty and the Beast. The awakened girl, still unable to see, would grope around for Wander, but his form had changed. Then, as you wondered what was going to happen, the staff roll would begin, but in the end the two would happily mount Agro and ride off… the bird would take flight, and Agro would first appear at the entrance to the shrine. As you wondered what you’d see next, the other two would come out, supporting each other. Wander’s changed form was the price he had to pay, something that couldn’t be undone. The horns growing from Wander’s head in the early pilot movies for the game are a remnant of that. It’s only now that I can say a part of me wishes we had done it. Without Ico, there might have been still another different ending, but when all was said and done, there were a lot of people on the team who felt the current ending was better. During the staff roll, the Colossi’s corpses are shown. I actually wanted to put a flashback scene there. When the girl touches Agro, the horse’s memories flow to her, and the girl understands what happened. Agro has a broken leg and might die without being able to fully support its body weight. But, falling from that height, it’s a miracle that only one leg was injured, isn’t it? The ending then continues on to the opening. The bird takes flight, the weather turns to thunder, the moon comes out, and you’re returned to the opening movie. The ancient land’s seal has been broken by Wander’s coming, and time, once stopped, begins to flow again.
Nomad Colossus What ending would you have liked to have been made the final one Nomad? I think its better to leave it as it is. Its perfect in my mind.
Leontin Myntti Good question. Of course I think the current ending is great and it blew my mind the first time I saw it, in fact the Pre-release (Preview) version ending has some differences that I think are better than the current retail version. Wander's agony at being stabbed and how he reaches out to Mono in his death throws is much more emotional - see here: Shadow of the Colossus - Cut scenes compilation (Note video and sound quality are poor as I made this years ago when my emulator's fps were low). But I came up with my own story for an ending which you can see here: nomads-sotc-blog.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/beta-dam.html (very bottom of the post) I also like Ueda's idea of Mono waking up earlier, radiating light which scares off the soldiers and Emon. Wander and Mono could then be together at last and ride off (on Agro) into the sunset. I also made this video which has an alternate ending of the colossi corpses you see in the final cut scene: Shadow of the Colossus - Ueda's alternate ending This idea is mentioned in the above (Another Ending) comment response taken from Glitterberri's website (she was the genius who translated the art book so people like me could finally read it). www.glitterberri.com/shadow-of-the-colossus/
Nomad Colossus Thank you for that reply. Exactly what i was looking for. I just now got the update saying you reponded. Gotta love google. But yeah. Thanks man.
Wow, I have been following Nomad and Pikol on youtube and their blogs since a little after the game first came out to learn what was at the top of the tower and all sorts of other interesting secrets. Shadow has some of the most interesting secrets in all of video games that you can discover and the fact that GT reached out to these guys to put this video together makes me to xD
you know as much as I love some of the pictures Ive found of the non included colossi. I do think there is something numerical about the colossi where it would be sort of..... off, if there was 24 or 48. I do actually believe thats why there is 16 and not 17. 17 sounds like theres almost 20, while 16 is still in the teens. I dont know how to explain it, but theres something about it that works. Like if there would be any minions in the game it wouldnt work, anything more than the lizards, because it detracts somehow. 24 or 48 colossi would be great it terms of just gameplay, but not in terms of the plotting and the story. Which is, theres like a dozen of colossi that need to be beat by a tiny guy. It works different from theres an ARMY of colossi that need to be beat, its too much. Its like jesus and the 24 disciples, or the 48 musketeers. Anyone know what Im talking about. What I think would be ideal would be if they wouldve kept the 16 colossi, but replaced some of them. Like I think it could do without all the small bull type `colossi`, since they dont really fit in with the concept of colossi anyway. As for the unused colossi that Ive found, I think some of them are good theyre not included, like a monkey or spider or another bull colossi. But the others could replace some of the original colossi.
While I usually think looking for hidden secrets based purely on rumor is just stupid, it does bring up interesting finds and little details about the game. Can you imagine going through 24 colossi? Beautiful...
of course there's a 17th colossus, you play as it.
I get it lol
Mind=blown
alias privacy Yeah a lot of people think that, and it's true. Well really each colossus' dark energy is basically a severed part of Dormin and they all come together and posses the Wanderer.
alias privacy Not Bad
wow good point
Please be right, that would be freaking awesome.
+MrOmniblast Cool! I appreciate your insights :)
Maybe in the Last Guardian, this guardian is a colossus
pikeman smoshman I hope so because the Colossi are amazing and unique.
+Weiss didn't the devil thing also have blue horns?
Well, we got the last Guardian in the end ; ) That's something to be proud of! Great game - one of the best games I've ever played, so visceral and emotional! As for secrets in Shadow - we got the PS4 version with new Last Big Secret 'relics' hunt... totally unexpected and fun to play around with. Takes days to find all 79 relics in order to find the 'Last Big Secret'. So in the end, we have got what we had dreamed about for many years... except perhaps an alternate ending and reaching the top of the temple!
I noticed they gave you a little shout out in the remake ;)

@@NomadColossus whats the "big news" you were talking to someone about in one of your videos comment sections?
The legend himself
And would you look at that, The Last Guardian did come out, and everyone ether loves it, or hates it.
And we're getting a PS4 Remake of SOTC, who knows, maybe they'll add the secret ending he wanted to do, and maybe they'll add new colossi as well?
I wish they would... but doubt it. It's probably one of those situations where adding it, would just anger a particular part of the fanbase anyway. It's sad, 'cause I'll spend way more time then I should from tomorrow to get back up that tower and just be disappointed again.
It's one of those NewGame+ Secrets you expect to have a pay off, and it just leaves you hanging.

Biggest downfall is its technical flaws in my opinion, I loved it otherwise.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!! :D
imagine is year 2500 and people apreciate this game like we apreciate now works of art like mona-lissa
And then when they look at this comment they’re like “how did he call it?”
What if on the lead developers death bed he just whispered "There's a 17th." and he told the rest of the crew when he died to initiate the code to let it out into the world throughout all PS2's.
Dude. I would buy both a PS2 and SOTC for that.
LegendofNocturne Me to.
Noel Brown Me too. This game is amazing and i hope that someone will make a similar game with the same nostalgia feel. *With a secret last boss ofcourse*
HavndrupHD Yeah. Sadly most games these days that are triple A turn out to not be very good. *Sigh* Wish we could go back to the good ol' days.
Noel Brown back when games like the binding of issac(the remake of which is the best game ever mad) didn't exist and rougelite games weren't very popular/didnt exist?sounds awful
So many years, and only just NOW learn about these unused colossi. It's just so unfortunate. ):
RIP, unused colossi.
That would be the best thing ever
I WANT THIS
That would be so hard to make though
There might not ever be a true sequel made by the original dev team, but, the full complete "Preay For The Gods" is very close to being released. It's without question a spiritual successor to "Shadow Of The Colossus" & from the looks of it with it's many boss fights & fairly big map to explore, fans of S.O.T.C. should be very happy with this new game. I know I'm excited!
Ew
I found the 17th colossus in the secret garden. It was gigantic and shaped like a bird, much like avio but couldn't fly very well. I guess it was Phoenix. On my stopwatch it took 18:15:62 to beat the thing and ......

PS4 Remake 😊
we need a new game with the 24 colossi, maybe even the 48, on the PS4, or someday in the future, PS5.
yes we do and why team ico GO PREY FOR THE GODS KILL SHADOW OF THE COLLUSUS
neo runner ??
Daniel Neary well i wanted 48 at least 24 because they all looked cool did you know that there was one good collusi but team ico cut it because it was to big and needed a big arena it was the worm BUT PREY OFF THE GODS LOOKS GREAT
+neo runner Ooookay?
neo runner yeah, I kind of agree. Have you heard the music that was supposed to play for worm in game? It's called "final battle". Because worm was meant to be the final boss of the game before it was cut.
I'm so glad this series is still here! I hope it never goes away.

there is a 17th colossus . the ending shows that you become a colossus .
Yep.
that's what I said kind of!
u become one of those shadow guys just more powerful or u become dormin because u destryoed all the statues

Look how far we’ve come. We got the Last guardian, and a remake of Shadow of the Colossus. And both games are absolutely phenomenal.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
The last gaurdian is here now!

***** the technology the ps2 had couldn't handle 48 barely 16 at that

It wasn't a matter of the number of colossi, but rather the map they had created that they didn't want to do over again to fit a bunch more colossi.

We need this, we really do. It would be incredible

First, if you have the money to get an attorney then awesome. got to get the rights first.
Agreed!
The eight that got cut were cut because they were either too powerful, required too big of an arena, or had problems with collision boxes.

I'm honestly more interested in knowing the unknown origins of the Colossi. Like, what are they? Where did they come from? Why do they exist? What was their purpose? To me, that sounds more worthy for a SotC lore theory than wondering if there's another 17th Colossus.
Terry McGinnis The Future Batman
I always had two theories based on the Colossi.
TheOnlyBlueStopSign Sounds very interesting.

How the times change
Ive been watching GT videos since I was a kid and this guys voice is one of the most nostalgic things I can personally experience
I feel like The Last Guardian is meant to blow us away JUST LIKE Shadow of the Colossus did, and that's worthy of taking a long time.

Plot twist: Trico from The Last Guardian is the 17th colossus
The fact we are still talking about this game as often as we do, and folks like Nomad make those fantastic exploration videos surely suggests to the studio, we we just want more of this game.
Please make more of this game devs.
I hope they remaster this game on ps4 and they introduce 48 colossus. It would be really radical but since the last guardian will never be out might as well give team ico something to do.
mohammed sarker colossus is a singular word. *colossi**
cool.
That would suck. It already looks good on PS3 but the 48 colossi would be a struggle and I'd rather have 24
Crota, Son of Oryx
you can never have too many colossi.
mohammed sarker EXCEPT I FELT SHITTY KILLING 16 OF THEM WHY WOULD I DO THAT TO MYSELF ANOTHER 8 TIMES
Somebody on the staff remembers this and added chapters. What a legend
This video still looks as if it hasn’t aged a day! Incredible editing and writing.
I played it when I was a kid and always went to the beach in that game. something so simple can have so much information and can make the player think. GREAT JOB!!
Anyone else want a sequel with the other 32 colossi?
Do you think they has “the spider”?
I laughed so hard when they said originally he wanted 48 Colossi. I just imagine them asking Ueda "Okay how many colossi do you want? Pick a number" Ueda - "48!" "Okay pick a smaller number."
“24” the other guy “god damnit”
If I can't have Silent Hills, PLEASE let there be The Last Guardian one day...
drumd00d Hello. Just like every year I search for hints that TLG will be showed this year.
My favourite hints this year are:
A Sony executive showed a piece of paper, with "The Last Guardian" written on it and said: "We all know what you want, but good things take time"
Another Sony executive wrote on his twitter account: "There will be something great for PS4 at the end of this year"
He could mean Uncharted 4, but by the time he postet this, Uncharted 4 already had its "End of 2015"-Release.
And yes the game could be The Last Guardian, but there is so much guessing in my conclusion that I am pretty sure, it won´t happen :(
But at least I can hope and hope dies last.
Your wish came true :)
I'll get the freaking confetti gun you get the gasoline and lighter! This is a great thing!
ZealSeraph Actually, I agree.
ZealSeraph
REBOOT
no, PC
You CAN reach the garden at the top of the main temple. I've done it myself.
While climbing the vines to the top of the temple, use the diagonal jump to zig zag your way up to the top. The zig zag jump uses a fraction of your stamina. You can beat the game once and you will have enough stamina to get there.
If you eat the fruit you lose max health permanently
I finish the game in my mobile device using an emulator app .. and I find out that the 17th collosi is your character possessed by Dormin.. . what a sad ending .. 😞
Now I'm trying to finish the hard mode to see if there's other features or discoveries will unlock .. I currently on the 15th collosi .
I don't think I would be the gamer I am today if I hadn't found this game and this video all those years ago.
awesome video! and great job on the research. I've given up on trying to explain this game's beauty to others, some people will just never get it :(
thoyo I get it and many others but yeah not all get its silent beauty.
+thoyo People don't know how to appreciate good things these days....
Oh boy. Not EVERYONE needs to share the same sense of aesthetic. People have different tastes but it does not mean they're inferior. If they don't think the game is beautiful then that's their opinion and it isn't wrong. Just like yours isn't wrong. These aren't facts we're talking about here
Every time that I hear the Shadow of the collossus theme songs I cry, ITS SO GOOD😭
You know, I understand there are people with different views on this, but seriously, you should respect the gamers who believe in this and still search for the answers. But there we go, I've said my piece.
god fucking dammit now i have to go play GTA SA and find bigfoot
No you shouldn't people have checked the games coding and there's nothing, people have hacked the game to see and STILL nothing.
Dear Leaf Shade.
Consider reading and processing what Guts posted before spoiling everyone's fun.
Yours
MrSamulai
MrSamulai Thank you for actually reading and processing everything I had said. Clearly some people don't understand. *Cough **Leaf Shade** cough*.
Good to see you guys back!
Absolutely need a giant director's cut with all 24 Colossi.
Still one of (if not THE) best games I've ever played.
Well, the last guardian did come out and in the remake it seemed like we could finally find the 17th colossus, and what did they gave us? Black glowing sword.
It’s a remake, it shouldn’t have to add something that wasn’t in the original.
@@yeetmcyeetalot5979 that would be a remaster, not a remake. A remake should be the one that adds content, not the one that is "better graphics and thats it lol"
@@federicoricca2512 yes sometimes remakes add extra content. But you can’t expect them to make an entire new boss just because people wanted it
Just one thing I have to say about the "mysterious" textures:
1. boss_worm: That texture is used after defeating the colossi, it's for the weird tentacle/worm things that spew out of the dead colossi.
You can get up there legit but it takes like 15 playthroughs
the__wolf more like 5
Leontin Myntti 15 without lizards 5 with
All these years and I still feel like there's something secret we haven't found, in Shadow of the Colossus.
No.
+swimr93 SotC was originally planned to be multiplayer as shown in the videos on the HD version of the game for PS3 so... it could work.
+lexzeyfercronus But then its not a HD remake.
Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite game. Ever. So many memories...
plot twist.. trico is the 17th colossus
It sucks that we will never see a shadow of the colossus game sequel of some kind with more colossus to fight and even possibly have the cut colossi to show up and fight. This game deserves so much.
me and a friend beat this game 16 times climbed to the top hoping for a boss... instead found a fruit that drops your strength bar......
Josh Flaherty there all bosses
Ha! Suckers, I'm in 2018 watching this 4 years later. The last guardian was made and it was amazing!
And the remake of SotC was also made, and it is incredibly beautiful. Now I am waiting for more news on Ueda's new game!
Well I'm watching this in 2020
aayyyyyy
@@lewiswetzel625 aayayyayyy
Whats up 2020 lol
I'm still blown away by how good that horse looks for a PS2 game.
Probably alone on this, but I think 16 is the right number. I wouldn't really want more because the game is just the right size to me, but I do wish the smaller ones were replaced with actual colossi, and I don't like the ones that shoot energy balls or whatever. Kind of lame imo
For sure of the things that makes this game so beautiful is the soundtrack
Hacking a game isn't illegal,if you do not sell it!
Yes, I was really disappointed when Daniel told me what Ueda had said. I think he was taking the party line (so as not to get in trouble with the higher ups in Sony). If he had responded positively to that question he may have been worried that other fans would hack Sony games to find secrets (which happens in any case).
In fact, I never mentioned the word 'hacking' to Daniel, he gave me three questions to ask which were:
1) Where on the map were the 8 discarded colossus
2) What was the purpose of the Dam at I2 on the map
3) Was it ever possible to climb to the very top of the Shrine of Worship.
Seems he only asked two of my three questions though ; )
Oh Nomad Colossus, youre my hero, thank you so much for answering!
Nomad Colossus OMG you are awesome =D
Nomad Colossus Colossus is a singular word.
A game that never gets old. You get tired of playing it for a while, but eventually you want to come back to it again. Only problem is, once you know how to beat a colossus, the most entertaining part of the game, the puzzle, is never as fun after the first time.
hope will be Shadow of collosus 2.
www.kickstarter.com/projects/802508750/prey-for-the-gods?ref=newest
There will be coming out called the last guardian in october
Prey for the gods is a shit game and nothing like SOC
And the last guardian looks nothing like SOC
Harambe because you can presumably see into the future to tell how good or bad that game is?
This video is just what I needed, I've been trying to put pieces of 'secrets' from the game together ever since reading Nomad's blog on the six unused colossi. It puts all the pieces I've been looking for all in one place--thanks to everybody who has spent so much time researching and investigating every single bit this game has to offer!
wouldn't it be great if they come back out with the game with all 24 and the alternative ending
Its a mystery I am willing to die with...
next gen could help with it!
+Shuvam Ghosh I understand you. but we can have 'the same game ' and ending, but with 24 colossi. I can hope.
I actually once found a glitched spot in the ending where if you just keep jumping away towards the side from the thing that is trying to suck you up, you can find a spot to rest and recover and then keep trying to jump away, but you can’t go any further cause there’s a invisible wall.
wander turned into the 17th colossus at the end... the question is, is there a 18th colossus
Rockcroc2000 not really, at the end wander is ok
pedro ansinelli yes, but he turns into a colossus
i don't know, it's more like a spirit
Rockcroc2000 that is true but in only a technicality. Physically he turned into the spirit of all the colossuses combined. Thus turning him into a sort of a shadow of colossus, hence the name of the game.
Rockcroc2000 * context * * back story * * hidden lore * That wasn't a colossus honestly it was actually Satan.
This game was so brilliant. It was simple yet so deep. It made your imagination go wild. No NPCs no villages, no loot system, just a empty world with 16 Colossus. This has to be one of my top 5 games of all time. Heres my list:
1. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater
2. Red Dead Redemption
3. Shadow of the Colossus
4. The Legend of Zelda ocarina of time
5. Skyrim
Love this series!
I miss this show
I know that there was a sequel to Shadow of the Colossus, but I think a new game with the 8 cut colossi would be an interesting follow up. Perhaps 8 new colossi or more could join said originals. I just find it a little sad to know that there are 8 colossi whose stories have yet to be seen, and will likely end up that way in obscurity.
46 planned colossi
Shadow BeatZz First off, it was 48. Second, only 24 made the cut for preliminaries, and 8 of which got cut in the final act.
+Mr.AnimeFreak imagine if they made shark like collosi
+Falence Kidd Then they most likely would have resembled gigantic, stone megalodons. Just putting that out there.
I MISS THESE PEOPLE AND THIS SHOW
i now want them to create a dlc with the 8 forgotten colosi
DLC? For a PS2 game? Sure, that would totally work!
+Ninjawa it was remastered on the PS3 nitwit...
Nomad Colossus is an absolute legend. We are very lucky to have him in the community!
There is a 17th colossus because somewhere at the end you turn into the 17th colossus
No . that’s dormin wich the 16 colossus are simply parts of him
wander was the vessel
Aldo Siffredi No, unfortunately, the last Colossus is........Agro.
HotJew 29 DUN DUN DUUUUUUN !
what a twist !
I guess that may be true, but dormin himself is not a colossus as his power was split into 16 colossi. #uraderpface
HotJew 29 Watching Agro fall into that canyon was one of the hardest moments I've ever experienced in a video game.
Wow this was actually very informative and not at all trivial as to what i was expecting! :D
best game ever created, thx for making this video GT
Another Ending (from the art book)
The voice you can hear after defeating a Colossus is calling out to restrain Wander.
Wander's agony at being stabbed and how he reaches out to Mono in his death throws is much more emotional - see here: Shadow of the Colossus - Cut scenes compilation
(Note video and sound quality are poor as I made this years ago when my emulator's fps were low).
But I came up with my own story for an ending which you can see here:
nomads-sotc-blog.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/beta-dam.html
(very bottom of the post)
I also like Ueda's idea of Mono waking up earlier, radiating light which scares off the soldiers and Emon. Wander and Mono could then be together at last and ride off (on Agro) into the sunset.
I also made this video which has an alternate ending of the colossi corpses you see in the final cut scene:
Shadow of the Colossus - Ueda's alternate ending
This idea is mentioned in the above (Another Ending) comment response taken from Glitterberri's website (she was the genius who translated the art book so people like me could finally read it).
www.glitterberri.com/shadow-of-the-colossus/
Nomad Colossus Thank you for that reply. Exactly what i was looking for. I just now got the update saying you reponded. Gotta love google. But yeah. Thanks man.
Nomad Colossus What do you think is the meaning of the bird?
Maybe so, they probably ran out of time tough :)
Good point
sadiq humby thanks
big digger nick Diggers have tiny nicks, so I don't know what you are on about.
Leon thepro Wasn't it like, they ran out of space(on the cd) and settled for 16?
While I usually think looking for hidden secrets based purely on rumor is just stupid, it does bring up interesting finds and little details about the game. Can you imagine going through 24 colossi? Beautiful...
