If you are worried. bring it all up with no speakers connected, connect a multimeter then slowly wind up the volume, there should be no appreciable DC on the speaker terminals. Things do age, drift is possible, as well as component failure so it cannot hurt to be cautious and check.
Something can also be said about purposely feeding DC into an amp (with no speakers) to verify it's protection circuits are present and actually work, a 'fire drill' for your amp.

Yes in case of a doubt I would definitively do this ! Once is sure : if for any reason a significant dc part is injected in a power amp with no dc blocking feature the woofers will move until stop and quickly burn out ! Exactly this happened to me a long time ago with a DIY preamp where I unintentionally bypassed the output coupling capacitors + Hi-End power amp without input capacitors "by design" (Jean Hiraga 2x20W Pure Class A, still in use). In France we say "a forewarned man is worth two" ...
Note : no issues with the other speakers than woofers because they normally have hi-pass filters.

Life is full of risks...the chance of your speakers getting fried from a DC offset is smaller than the chance of having a serious car accident on your next trip. So before adding capacitors to protect your speakers, make sure you sell your car.

The letter writer read on audio forums "this that and the other" from other audiophiles. We can alway count on audio forums to give us the wrong answers. Actually better opinions on audio in pubs, elevators, food courts; maybe even laundromats.

dc offsets must remain minimum always , to ensure direct dc coupling , safe , on direct switching on of amplifiers , dc levels has to stablised , by having an on timer relay .

As a general rule you want to have as few capacitors in the signal path as possible, ideally none. Decoupling caps sit in the signal path normally on the output of the preamp or the input of the power amp. If you must have one this is the one where getting the highest quality is most important.
With solid state preamps DC offset is unlikely to be an issue. With valve preamps you might have a problem if one of the tubes goes out of wack.

class-a amps would not be sitting at 0 if there's no cap to filter out the dc tho? even when working as intended.

My Audible Illusions preamp with phono stage had a switch that bypassed the DC output blocking capacitors was feeding an Audio Research tube amp for many years without even a whisper of this or any problem that the writer is speaking about.

Is it the pre-amps job to block DC or the Power Amp? And how do you know if your pre-amp is working properly, you can’t hear DC?

  • @ford1546

You have 2 pcs. protection circuits!
One is a capacitor on the input or output of a preamplifier and amplifier.
This is to protect against DC. current that may occur if there is a fault with the equipment.
DC. is amplified in amplifier, preamplifier and can blow up your speakers, amplifier.
Anything you run sound through will weaken the sound in one way or another. You don't always hear this very well
Number 2 is a real card connected between amplifier and speaker that sits inside the amplifier which cuts the signal if there is 1.5v DC or more.

If your power amp gets blown up by the DC offset of your pre-amp, it too had no blocking capacitor. Who is to blame?

Why would anyone want DC coupling ? I know I know capacitors have phase shifts but aren't they less noticeable than all that circuitry used to detect DC offset ?

I was third at the lunch counter. But you do not see me spamming forums with useless information that no one asked for, virtually no one cares about, and is 100% divorced from the topic of the video.

If you deem it necessary to announce that you are first, third, or whatever, then no need to look for other losers.

A good start is for a loser to recognize that they are a loser when they announce such things.
