I was thinking it might have been a bad idea to ride that trail without gloves, but then there was the cliffs. There's no point even wearing a helmet. A parachute might work though...
It is specially important to war gloves in these kind of terrains. I helps the forensics team to obtain your fingerprints to identify your body when they find it at the bottom.
lexugax lmfao
They absorb shock for me and help me grip when my hands tens up. Plus, if you go down...
Lol
Helmet is a must. The head is more important then any part of the body... penis too.
He's like: "Damn" or "Phewww"
I'm like: Having a full on heart attack just by watching this lol
It has 255 likes but no replies
You have to be prepared to throw your life away for a simple mistake...count me out.
This trail is actually a little sketchy
Oh for sure! Don't go left
Only a little though...
Seth's Bike Hacks ayyyye Seth haha, I need to make a few vids showing some street skills after watching you, you're the reason I bought a $900 diamondback on ebay for $350 lol, to start mountain biking and fool around with. The previous owner even put an integrated dropper post, and new derailer
you should have bought a bitcoin! lol
Seth's Bike Hacks hah just slightly, death threatening, nothing much....
The video stabilization was amazing. Best I've seen.
Jeff Meyer amazing indeed, wonder how they got to that quality
69 likes. Ha ha!
@@PatVandenBosch it's the Go Pro
maybe a gimble
Totally agree with your points
Yes! Lower Portal is the shit! Probably my favorite section in Moab. Pure violence.
So violent! My bike was making ALL the sounds by the end. Probably my favorite trail from the trip 👍🏼
Trail Peek I have a mountain bike (3/7 speeds) but I want to get a cyclocross bike, what do you think about the Mongoose Selous Comp Gravel Bike for $899.99, I'm saving to buy a house so I do not want to expend more than 1000 dollars, I live in California
Nate Hills bb
Nope nope nope.
crazy wheel to the max Did you get the house and the bike?
“Super windy!” He casually said, while biking on a track that could plummet him to a very painful death.
0:17 Me: "I wonder if this is going to evolve into one of those 'nope' trails where you're basically riding on the side of a cliff."
2:25 Me: "Yeah...NOPE"
Looks a lot worse from a GoPro. 12 inches of trail is plenty for a 2 to 3 inch wide tire to travel on. Just fall towards the hill not the cliff if there's a hill to fall toward...I've ridden trails worse than this totally on my own for miles. No big deal, you can do it or don't bother.
@@xolomartinez6036 I don't think risking my life is worth a mild adrenaline rush.
Hk 4lyfe according to your logic a rollercoaster would be considered risking your life.
@@kevynlub2655 Don't ride those either.
In the immortal words of the great Borat "WA WA WEE WA!" So cool!
Very nice!! Haha
I can smell the brake pads through my screen
The Derflinger 😂😂😂😂me too, imagine loosing ya break on there🤐
@The Derflinger Runnin' out of breaking power, on a trail like this...Ooooooh
Geezus. I was puckered lying on my couch just watching this. I don't think I could even walk that trail.
Just finished riding this trail
This video as crazy as it is doesn’t do justice to how insane it is
I just did that trail a few weeks ago for the first time and damn it is gnarly. I like that the exposed part at the top is easy and the technical stuff isn't exposed but I mostly walked that top part man, my knees were shaking and just didn't want to have a mistake be my story. Sick riding and video!
Straight No Braker did you die?
I would've done the same thing and walked the super sketchy parts
First rule of steering: "Focus your eyes where you want to go".
Somehow I'd still be looking left!
just imaging hitting my leg on of those rocks and dying
2:24 wow, from here you can see the ER I would be taken to!
.....or the morgue
John Smith 3:22 this is where I stop to change my shorts
Guys, you are all wrong 0:00 through 9:00 was the scariest part
That guy can shred! As an off-road motorcycle rider I can appreciate the skill he displays, floating over rocks which are often at an angle to his line of travel, and the speed at which he is going is impressive. Through all that mess he got off his preferred line just once. Awesome rider.
Paved roads: "Am I a joke to you?"
untill now I never new a mountain bike could tackle terrain that technical at that pace. I've been racing dirt bikes for 25 years and I'm buying a mountain bike to add to the experience, thanks for enlightening me....loved the video, good job.....
Damn!! 2:46, that is nuts!! Awesome riding, as per usual.
Don't blow the corner lol!
I think I squealed at 3:20...
Nuts?? nuts doesn't even come close to describe :D
I have a scary memory of riding it 25 yrs ago, having forgotten my helmet and then doing a header on the lower section. I rode it at about 1/100 of your speed and was puckered up the whole way and now I 'm puckered up again watching your amazing vid. Thanks for posting it.
I wouldn't even be able to walk most of this I am so afraid of heights
Charles Ritter I couldn’t even go on the beginning part
We'll send in Search and Rescue to extract you from the foot of the trail when we get back down....give us 6 hrs.up the mountain and 10
(min.) Max.for the descent,okay Bud?
Me too!
Wow! That was PUNK ROCK. Best free adrenaline buzz in ages.....Hats off to some full on riding. Cheers from Scotland.
Dude, very impressive ride down, and super fun to watch. I'm a newcomer to mountain biking
(at age 61), and although I'm quickly getting better, ha ha, I'm not sure anything like Portal Trail is in my future cards.
Thanks for taking me on the ride too......This old man loved it!
7:41 That noise tho😂😂
Very dangerous
Following ur cam view, i saw myself taking several wrong lines and plummetting over all the way down several times. Of course, if i had plummeted, it wouldn't be several times, just that one time and I'd be done for. Respect! U are one sic rider, and thanks for taking me there.
6:14 I’m starting to think his arms aren’t attached to his body
Hhaha
i honestly thought i put the vid on 2x on accident
young lavo LMFAOO
OMG ROFL!!!
young lavo there so long
I can't believe there's only 24k views. Spectacular film.
Great beginner trail, gonna take my hyper havoc walmart bike there
I've never seen anything so Beautiful and so scary at the same time! This is what I call Super brave,my hands were sweating the whole time Brilliant Video
Holy cow, what a trail! Nice riding as always! Hope your front disk break/spokes didn't take a hit!
PS: really loved the ending with the conversation... gives the video a sort of personal touch!
Thanks! We'll try to include a little more of the stoke commentary.
I love that trail! haven't ridden it in 20 years though... sad face. you're having the time of your life and then suddenly.....it's over. and you're back on tarmac. thanks for posting!
Do you ever feel like you have a lack of grip while not wearing gloves?
Never
You're just one of the only people I've ever seen that doesn't wear gloves. Guess it's like how a lot of baseball players don't wear gloves at bat!
Skeggs, waterdog and z's are child's play compared to this.
Wear gloves if you don't want your hands mutilated when you fall, strike a tree, rubbed raw and get blisters. You shouldn't be holding onto the handebars tight anyways. You will fall eventually.
+Danny Kamerman On the other hand (wink), no gloves gives you the feel of such extra risk, and trains you better to stay on top of your bike on those hard situations.
Holy shoot, this trail is something else! I mean, my heart beat was upthere somewhere just by watching. Awesome!
gotta go change my underwear
You mean your whole outfit? 😂😂

The second half of that trail was sick!
my arms got tired just wathing it
I just walked this trail today, Nov 14th 2020. Dude you are flying thru shit likes its flat ground! Sometimes when you look ahead and just gas it makes it easier! Awesome skills bro!
NICE!! The steep rocks at 2:50 that prompted the "whoo," was some exposure for sure! "Death on the left" should be the name of the upper part of that trail. After you rode to the edge of the bluff over the river and gave me butterflies, the rest of it looked like less exposure. The entire thing looked INCREDIBLY fun to ride, which is what I love about Moab. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks!! Was I dreaming, or did you run your fork stanchion right into that rock on the right?? Be interested to see if you prefer this over Capt. Ahab. Great video, and great riding as always...keep 'em coming!! MOAB ENCORE!!!
That was no dream, smashed my fork lower into that rock. Watch it again and you'll see I clipped my bars on the little tree and somehow rode it out lol.
At least it was the lower, right? :-) It looked like it was the stanchion in the video! Hate clipping my bars, and I'm always amazed when I don't go down.
You guys make it look so easy :) Ive never done any mountainbiking and maybe I never will but I really enjoy watching you guys doing it, thanks for bringing us with you :)
Me: attempts this
“PORTAL TRAIL”
Also me: immediately dies
Its a portal to the afterlife
My eyes were getting wider and wider watching this. Holy sugar this is incredible! Awesome video and you make it look so easy!
That's some pucker inducing terrain right there!
Not for the faint of heart and unskilled riders. Great video with the stabilizer. Excellent skills in riding.
that was impressive! excellent riding skills, i was shitting myself just watching the video!
This was one of the videos that inspired me to start MTBing last fall. It's a bucket list for me definitely; need to get better, stronger, every ride until I can ride this beast of a trail with confidence. Thanks man!
It's okay to let other people defy death
7:40 that little scream made me burst out laughing
It doesn’t seem possible anyone could do this or any bike could handle the terrain. Just amazing!
2:45 his eyes would be like:▶️⬅️⬆️⬇️↗️↕️↖️↙️↘️➡️🔽↗️⬆️↔️↪️🔁⬇️⬅️↖️⬇️↗️
I love it! It's super bumpy!! Yet, the camera remains still!!! I love it!!!! SICK!!!!!
am i the only one who noticed his handlebar is backwards?
The rocky section showing at around 2:20 looks to be more than heart-stopping!
this video gave me more anxiety than me going home after getting bad grades
Shoot,it gave more anxiety than sneaking in after cheating OMG 😳
used to ride this in the 80s, good to know that it still kicks ass!
how to balance the camera like you did?
it's so shockless and focust, looks like a video games :D
Your head is the most stable part of your body in sports.
I rode this trail today. Well, okay, I rode part of it, and walked part of it. You make it look far easier than it actually is!
watch those elbows on some of those boulders!!
Sweet! Wonder how Moab is looking next few days, I'm planning on heading out there. Been snowing alot lately though...
Mental... awesome skills fella. subscribed
Thanks James!
Courageous ride: the way you kept going through some of those rock cramped slow sections- great skill.
Ur insane!! God damn! But I love the riding ❤️
Jesus! What a rock garden! Savage riding skills man... youghtta be content with that ride! I am. For ya... :) Love Moab trails!
Are you gonna hit Outerbike with BKXC? Would be a good time for a collab video!
Outerbike was a few weeks ago LOL! I left before the crowds
The Finnish Crash - MTB Everything
Not to be rude to Brian from Bkxc, but he wouldn't quite be comfortable on trails like Portal. Trail Peek here would be leaving him in the dust every run.
Ohh didnt realise there was such a big delay on his videos😅 But now that I think about it, he travels so much there must be very little time to edit videos, so the delay is quite understandable.
BKXC made a collab video with Phil Kmetz 2-3 months ago and it was pretty cool, Phil is a professional downhill MTB rider and Brian is kind of at the novice/ lower intermediate level and even with all that, the video turned out pretty good and I would watch another one of those again. Just because one rider is a lot better than the other doesn't mean they can't ride together sometimes, you just have to let people go at their own speed for part of the run, or whatever people are comfortable with. It's not hard to accomplish
I'm watching this and thinking this is so F'd up but so awesome at the same time. Its Pure Living.
"Damn" indeed. Ultra technical one second, fast and loose the next, with a shit ton of exposure for good measure. I'm going to have to stop watching Trail Peek. It's costing me too much in soiled underwear.
Dude, you drew some really nice lines down this ons. Nice work!🔥🙏
have people died on this trail?
I think 3 people have
Trail Peek from mtbing or in general?
Yes.
yes from MTB'ing. In the video you'll see several signs saying to dismount in a few really nasty exposed sections. These sections have nothing to catch you if you fall left...
Generally at least one cyclist a year dies on Portal...
The arms the hole time (bec of the angle) cracked me up I couldn’t just omg 😂😂😂
why does it look like your bars are on wrong!?!?!
Christopher Schmitthausler i thought the same thing.
His bars are more twisted forward..its up to the rider, a flat bar in is turning angle is universal. But slightly forward makes the bike longer as well as alittle easlier on sharp turn radius..
i Know WHY you Cut out a Bunch of Parts from the Video Here' is Because you Dont Want People to SEE you Fall Down :-D
I love PORTAL trail it's one the hardest tech trails you can ride. Nice work!
Probably not the hardest considering I rode all of it blind, but still such an awesome trail! High consequence nonetheless.
Craig Steele what's your favorite trail in Moab?
Checkout Porcupine rim if you haven't already?...It is 15.6 miles of DH with fast flow Techy sections as well with some high speed drop offs. poison spider bikes will hook you up for the shuttle. Sorry for the late reply been adventure riding myself. Enjoy lads!!
Ballsy to say the least! Looked like fun! We have a few trails with steep drop offs into nothingness where I am (although not nearly as dramatic as this) but the older I got the less I rode them. Mortality and self insurance is a great equalizer and party pooper. Now I get to live vicariously through you. Enjoy that until you can't enjoy it anymore!
i dont know if it's just the lens distortion, but i'm pretty sure your bars are on backwards. That sweep should come back, not forward. Props on slaying that trail regardless!
you are one hell of a rider , I am getting scared just looking at the video..be safe
Will drive you nuts trying to pick a line when you're not controlling the bike. Lol great video guys!
I would not survive first 10m most likely. Wow! You must have tons of experience and I can't imagine what you have in your head when you ride like that or not. :-) Great video.
I’m amazed how beautiful Utah is!
Humbling and frightening all at the same time, good stuff Dane
Very true, thanks!
CRUSHED! Nice work man. I love portal but I walk a lot of that exposed stuff just because it's super high risk.
Seth -> Jesus -> Phil -> BKXC -> HERE. Thumbs up on this gnarly rip.
Holy cow... Respect bro.. I was about to sh.. in my pants when riding the trails in Ischgl, Austria last year. But this one is a whole different level.
Brilliant riding, I couldn't walk that without crapping my self!!!
Nice video work. Those are some crazy ass trails.
Nicely done. I love the Portal trail. Almost makes it look as hard as it really is. I also never thought about hiking it... I guess because I own a bike!!
That is absolutely insane. Great views though!
Gonna be at least a few years before I try that! Seriously insane. Super fun to watch though!
Wow, sick trail !! It looks very sketchy at the top with that cliff drop off, but what an amazing view !!! Great ride, guys !!
That looks really tricky. Thanks for sharing.
I'm speechless.. INSANE!!
Looks so fun!
How did you get the skid marks off your saddle? Mine would have been like a formula 1 starting grid. 😱😷
was that really your first time down that trail? CRAZY... I just about pooped myself just watching.. No room for error on most sections of that trail..you were FLYING...Fun to watch.
Yep, first time on this trail. First time to Moab actually, I'll have to make it back again!
Excellent control of your bicycle.
This was incredible and helped me understand why the fuck certain mountain bikes can be so expensive.
Awesome video. I rode this two weeks ago. The trail to get to the start of portal SUCKS! Don’t do gold bar trail. Especially in 100 degree weather.
That is a trail! No room for hesitation.
was by far my favorite trail in Moab the exposure doesnt look crazy until you see it via drone footage of how big the cliff is
That is some solid riding buddy! Especially the descent.
superb skills. i think this is 1 of the most terrifying mtb videos i came across with.
Dude... You are fearless!!! I was terrified Watching it in the big screen.... Woooo. I wish. You were able to put the speed of the bike on screen.
sick ride guys , this trail is not joke ...
risk vs. reward. I would never ride something that exposed, but props to you for doing it, makes for a great video! I have no problem with heights, I've done some via ferratas in the Dolomites, but this made my palms sweat just watching it.
Awesome! See I'm the other way around, I'm comfortable on my bike with exposure but climbing on a big pitch would spook me.
