  • this is the second video about my new car project. It is about the Volvo V70 p26 with a B5244S2 engine.
In this episode I am going to do some technical checks like the compression test of the cylinders, pressure test of the cooling circuit.
Other small visual checks are also included but relevant for the MOT (TÜV, or technical inspection).
I will be glad to hear your comments about the results of the compression test.

Thank you for sharing! This will help me check my volvo!

I'm sure you know this, but there's a routine for checking the transmission fluid level. Drive the car in your hottest temp and then park the car and shift through all gears with 3 seconds in between. Wait two minutes and then check the level!

Same colour as mine, even the VIN is the same for the first 7 digits!

    Hello there,
I been following your video regarding the harsh shifting the problem is the linear solenoids there is a few videos on you tube showing how to perform the fix I have done a few Volvos my self with the same problem. Just look on UA-cam shifting solenoids fix
    Ok man good luck.

Thank mate! I saw several videos about that fix but it seems to be a bit hard to get access to the gearbox pan. How much time is needed to perform that fix, including lowering the subframe?

@@DIYTEA last time I did this job took me good 10 hours I just take my time bcause I do open the solenoids and clean them the subframe is not that difficult unfortunately there isn't and specific video showing the steps but I can see you are mechanicly oriented you will figure out but on the Matheous volvo forum there is a tutorial on this fix.

I will be interested to see how you get on with this. My car (v70 same engine) has developed a misfire at cold, compression values are
    Cyl1: 165psi
    Cyl2: 65psi
    Cyl3: 90psi
    Cyl4: 65psi
    Cyl5: 30psi
    Not too great.
Did you put the throttle to the floor when testing? Is this necessary?

I did a compression test on my 99 S80 T5, with the engine cold
    Cyl1: 150 psi
    Cyl2:150 psi
    Cyl3:150 psi
    Cyl4:150 psi
    Cyl5: 147 psi
Should be alright i assume? or are all of them too low? the car does misfire on cyl2 but it is ocasional, sometimes it does not misfire at all, other times it does, but if you shut the engine and restart it it stops misfiring, already changed plugs and coil packs, switched injector from cyl2 to 4, and still misfire in no2.

    • @DIYTEA
      @DIYTEA  11 місяців тому +1

I think 150psi - 160 psi is the almost the limit to worn.
The misfire in the cyl 2 could be due to a bad valve or dirt on the valve seat.. or may be the electrical connection of the coil or injector...

@@DIYTEA even with a cold engine this values are signs of a worn engine?

@@DBraz better do the warm test, the compression should be better.

@13:12 With 0 DIY experience and average driving skillz, I would try to get rid of it and make a profit in the progress or try to disassemble the engine and use an ultrasonic cleaner to get rid of the carbon deposit.

You still have 3 piston 🤪, now I want to do the same test on my v70. I hope you have simply valve hole dirty.

😄 I think that there is something to do with the dirt arount the valve seats. But my measures were done roughly and not in a proper way.
I am using some cleaning fuel additifs now with the hope that the cylinders and valves get clean and the compression get better. Will see.
I will report this in the coming videos.

Just a project and a pass time. Want to own a solid 5 cylinder once and try something else.
Was looking for another bmw but to find a cheap original one with no rust is imposdible

@@DIYTEA you can find a old v70 with engine burn for 300, 400 fr. Then change head gasket.

Yes its an idea. But my problem is the lack of space in my garage to tear the engine down. Also I dont have the time for the swap.
I believe by removing the head, cleaning the valves or swaping them and cleaning the valve seats the compression will be fine. The cylinder walls are still perfect and the there is no oil comsumption at the moment.

Wow, that means if you have to replace one headlight the car is totalled because that costs €700.
