Sponsors: Time to get on board. This is team will attract a lot of attention and Soph has a track record of producing high quality very watchable videos. We need to support these two.
I have followed you for years and enjoy each episode. Good luck with all the changes on the internet and with UA-cam. Keep up the sailing, the cats are fun to watch.
"Crazy's hereditary" - not only is that a funny line, I think there's more than a hint of truth in it. Jen's mum climbed Kiliminjaro in her 20s back in the 1950's, and I think that that spirit of adventure "infected" Jen too. So inspiring seeing you and your mum taking on these challenges - it's a fantastic sidebar adventure for us to follow.
That's so awesome. Perhaps that line could make it into the book 😂 Chapter 'Likelihood of Adventure' subsection 'Genetic Factors' 😂 Thanks legend, glad to have you along for the ride!
Congratulations Soph, What an amazing project. Regardless of your position over the finish line being the first Mother / Daughter crew to complete will be a massive win 👍. Really looking foward to these series.
Hello Soph and Mom. It is so overwhelming for me old father to see how you, mother and daughter, can experience this sailing event together. You will both remember this forever. I am lucky to be able to experience something similar with my son. I wish you many more adventures together. Of course, great videos and editing again. Fare winds and following seas. 👍
This is amazing, you’re amazing, your mom is amazing, mother daughter team is amazing and it’s amazing you have the support of your families. Another great ride to follow along on!
Awwww Sophie, I'm so excited for you and your mom. I can hear the emotion and excitement in your voice. What wonderful memories you will make! Safe travels. ❤
Those big metal seagulls may be more efficient but you can't go outside for a walk on deck. I have every confidence in you both , fair winds and calmish seas .
You both are queens in the sailing world that's for sure! Cheers for a wonderful episode and we all know that you both are going to do amazing in all races that you are in! Stay safe and please don't strangle each other😂😂😂 much love! PS. Hello Slim and Chilli hope your doing well brother!
What a wonderful experience for you both to share, incredible memories being created, that’s what life is all about. Loved the ‘but in’s’ by Netty, but I only counted 2, she got used to you talking to camera quickly.😂. Great video. X
Love it Soph and Annette, and the naming of 'In Her Ocean Wake' is absolutely brilliant the way you explained the meaning behind it too. Hopefully a FIKA tour coming up Soph (can't remember if you've done one before), have subbed to the website and looking forward to this amazing adventure with your Mum, and it will be no doubt very special. May, for the first challenge, is just around the corner too. Perhaps a codeword for Mum prior to camera duties, so you don't freak her out, that could be what sends you to bow and stern for some deep breaths lol.
This was a great episode Soph, nice change of pace. You've known your mom all of your life, but this was your first time really sailing together in this format, given all of her sailing experience, what did you learn from her on this trip?
Fabulous history in the project name......"Following in her wake!" 🎉🎉🎉. Also, one hell of a strong boat💪🏻👍🏻 Best wishes with the project. And see you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
What a great & talented family you have soph mums won he'll of a sailor to also your dad all the best for the Osaka race with slim at base camp you'll all do well cheers mate fair winds calm seas cheers
Ok, so now I know where you get your legacy sea legs from! Wow the first Mother / Daughter crew in an epic series of ocean races! I certainly wish you both fair winds and fast sailing and all the very best for your preparations going forward! Your Mom is Awesome, not that you are not! Best regards from Port Alfred South Africa.
OMG Soph what and amazing thing to do with your mum. You have already done Melbourne to Hobart, and two more to do, but Melbourne to Osaka and only 2 people, OMG what a challenge and a experience, So these 80 comments will be 100's of comments and followers watching two amazing people sail to Osaka.
Wow Soph you guys look and seem very much alike with the same happy disposition too, racing two handed as mother and daughter should be a blast and being a first mother and daughter team makes it even more of an accomplishment good luck and best wishes look forward to seeing the footage of both races
Soph, you and your Mum are going to have such a blast! Great Video as always and good luck to you both, I wish you both every success. You so very fortunate to share your passion of sailing and have a fantastic boat for your endeavors, and are an inspiration to others. Bon voyages !!
What a delightful mother and daughter combination you two are! Since you're on your way to Osaka, may an old Japan hand help you with your pronunciation? Your destination port is Osaka, pronounced Oh-Oh-Saka. Two beats and an accent on the first syllable. Good luck in the race! (By the way, , your own boat, has a name which means "friends" in Japanese. In that case also, place the accent on the first syllable. ) Aloha from Hawai'i.
Congratulations on getting through your first sail and keeping your heads 😂. I am looking forward to your next adventures. You both are a bit crazy but the good type of good crazy!
Nice one Soph. This is going to be great to follow. 2 Crazy Aussie sailing Aussie to Japan and back. (Mother and daughter) You both could pass a sister's. The sailing adventures for you two ladies to prepare for the big one will definitely be well worth the viewing We will be the first-ever mother & daughter sailing team to compete in the Melbourne to Osaka Double-Handed Yacht race! With this massive offshore sailing event, that will see us sailing 5,500 nautical miles non-stop from the southern to the northern hemisphere, we will need to train and prepare ourselves. And we have picked just the races for that! The Sydney to Noumea and the famous Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht race. But before we head to the start line of the Sydney to Noumea we must complete an offshore qualifier. Despite sailing thousands and thousands of miles together, this is the first time we have sailed with just the two of us. Bringing it on I am ready for the excitement.
What an amazing team you will be to each other and can’t wait to follow your journey’s. I live near Manly and wish I could have watched you sail out of the Harbour. Congratulations on qualifying for your race and I wish you a very happy safe and adventurous time together.❤🎉
It looks like it will align perfectly for Slim to be doing his law internship, where he needs to complete a certain amount of hours to be signed off. So you'll find him in an office most likely 😂
Lovely boat and what a good team you are both sure to make …was wondering if you’ll be allowed an on board filmer like in the ocean race series?…just an idea!…would make a great documentary.. Best of luck! Lawrie Williams.
Hey Clyde, Slim and I are still completing a circumnavigation aboard Nakama and currently coming down the West Coast, yes. This project is something I'm doing on the side with my mum, so I will have to fly to and from Nakama to compete in the races. Not much has changed, just added another thing to the plate! 😊
for real? Your mum is an internationally recognised offshore yachmaster, who also teaches; Soph you have so much real world experience, that is so heavily documented… for real ? that some knucklehead bureacrat thinks that a 24 hr jaunt (no disrespect) off moreton bay … proves anything - that either of you havent already demonstrated amply… come on - perhaps they should understand the concept of “”RPL” … “recognised prior learning” .. a well documented concept. im just speechless…. and seriously doubt that many of the others undertaking these events have the same (documented) level of teal workd experience. .. thanks as always for an entertaining video… and im sure you have heard it. before … you look like your mum!

Gosh, you two are so alike! Same laugh, same smile, same voice, same body language. It's really cute to watch you interact.
Congratulations Soph, What an amazing project. Regardless of your position over the finish line being the first Mother / Daughter crew to complete will be a massive win 👍. Really looking foward to these series.
Thanks so much! Exactly, I don't think we're expecting to be the first over the line with Fika being 15-20 tonne but an accomplishment nonetheless! 😂

😂
What a wonderful experience for you both to share, incredible memories being created, that’s what life is all about. Loved the ‘but in’s’ by Netty, but I only counted 2, she got used to you talking to camera quickly.😂. Great video. X

Definitely your mother’s daughter !
Great stuff. Hope you do good.
The Najad would make a nice South Pacific cruiser...hint hint.....mums the word.
hahaha, definitely
Good luck to you both, I'm sure you'll do great. Will you have trackers onboard for the races?
Hi
All the best to both of you
Would like to see you both getting in the habit of using life jackets and safety lines
As you never know out there
"Mom" you don't need a brush. You are beautiful just the way you are lol
Last I knew you two were going to traverse the west coast of Australia. What changed???
Hey Clyde, Slim and I are still completing a circumnavigation aboard Nakama and currently coming down the West Coast, yes. This project is something I'm doing on the side with my mum, so I will have to fly to and from Nakama to compete in the races. Not much has changed, just added another thing to the plate! 😊
You are your mother's daughter!
The buoys were black ? How are you supposed to see that randomly on a black ocean ?
Fishing gear is always mind-boggling stupid, it's just luck to not pick up all the gear that floats around 🤦♀
for real? Your mum is an internationally recognised offshore yachmaster, who also teaches; Soph you have so much real world experience, that is so heavily documented… for real ? that some knucklehead bureacrat thinks that a 24 hr jaunt (no disrespect) off moreton bay … proves anything - that either of you havent already demonstrated amply…
come on - perhaps they should understand the concept of “”RPL” … “recognised prior learning” .. a well documented concept.
im just speechless…. and seriously doubt that many of the others undertaking these events have the same (documented) level of teal workd experience.
.. thanks as always for an entertaining video… and im sure you have heard it. before … you look like your mum!
♥️♥️🥰🥰
🙏🏻⛵🐬🦘👩🏻👩🏻...
😀😀👍👍👍❤
No more Slim🥲
Not aboard this vessel but he will be back next week when we continue aboard Nakama!
OSH, with the joint experience between the pair of you, a qualifying sail to prove that you can do it is rather pointless.
🍻🌮
It doesn’t say anywhere what kind of Yacht you are sailing.
It does. Watch the video
Najad 490
Fika is a Najad 490, built in Sweden, 2001
That’s a fitting name for a boat from Sweden ☕️🍰🇸🇪
Good on ya Soph bloody oath mate hope you’re having a beaut sail with mum
.
