My dad passed away in August. I started listening to his record collection that he gave me years ago more following his passing. I pulled Fahey’s Requia randomly out of the stack a couple weeks after he passed. This track the first song in the album. I was absolutely floored by it. Have listened countless times since then. It’s truly one of the most exquisite pieces of music I’ve ever heard. This version is so spot on and beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Excellent! You captured all the nuances of articulation and the weird Fahey quirks like shifting the beat by adding an extra beat into a measure every now and then. The dynamics were awesome, too! Great work!
Thanks! That's my favorite part of the piece, so I tried to do it justice. The tempo change is like a quick breather, a pensive moment that really adds to the charm of the piece.
You just earned a new subscriber. May I ask where you found the tabs for that? I’ve found a couple sources but wasn’t sure if you recommend one for this song?
Appreciate it! There's a super detailed and accurate tab at johnfahey.com/TabRequiemforJohnHurt.htm but I personally found it easier to learn it by ear.
Thank you! I palm mute the bottom two strings in the opening section (0:00-0:32), and whenever that section repeats. Otherwise I let all the strings ring.

Your dad must've gifted you quite a great collection if Requia was in there. Thanks for sharing your story.
Keep the Music Alive
Must have watched this 60 times now
One of the best renditions I've ever heard of this eternal song, composed by God (John Fahey, lol). Chapeau.
Thanks a lot!
So much said by sealed lips. Bravo.

I don't even know what to say, I'm so impressed by that.
Rest in peace John Hurt. Rest in peace John Fahey.

That was phenomenal. Sounded like Fahey studio recording. Bravo!

That change of tempo @ 2:44 is sublime. One of Fahey's best tunes in my opinion. Kudos.

@@jrmaingat Thanks! I was wondering.
Like a bawss!
insane cover, learned it by watching you play it. what brand of guitar is that btw??
It's a Ferangeli guitar, handcrafted by a great luthier in the Philippines. It's one of their orchestra models made for fingerpicking.
Nice playing! What kind of finger picks are you using?
Dunlop thumb & finger picks. Thanks!
What gauge finger picks? Striving for this tone!
@@Midnasty666 .015", and the ones I have are nickel.
