This brings back memories of my youth...my Daddy worked for Short Line (Hudson Transit Lines) out of Mahwah, NJ..we lived in a wonderful apartment over the terminal..I rode many buses of all models over my years there..but these were some of my favorites..
Similar to my experience. A while ago I was going to trade my El Camino for a 1959 PD4104 RV. When the dude opened the rear cover, I saw that engine and said "Is that a 6-71?" He said Yup. I showed my friend and said "Look at the blower!" The owner said 'I don't think it has a blower' but I showed him, and he said "I'll be damned!" 2 stroke diesel. Makes way more sense than it sounds like. Anyway, long drive, car troubles and trade didn't work out. If I'd driven it, I think I'd be satisfied
Can I ask you a couple questions since you are a little familiar with these? I want an eagle but it's not quite in the budget yet. I have a chance to get one of these gmc's running for under 2 grand, nice straight body, engine rebuilt, just been sitting for years. It's so cheap I'm really tempted, and I'm thinking it would clean up nice... Is it aluminum or stainless? What would it take to polish one of these up that's been sitting and weathered with no shine left, any idea? Years of work? .
One of the most impressive buses ever!
I drove them in revenue service. Loved those old gals.
Simple-that clicking it the air compressor. When the air compressor kicks off, the clicking will stop

There is a "tick" to the engine. It sounds like the engine is going to need some work. Any blue or white smoke when applying the throttle?
sounds fine to me but it wouldint hurt to have a diesel mc take a look/hear :)
