In our video today we reveal how to find one of the most 'instagram'able fields in the UK. Tourists flock from far and wide to a cluster of fields on the north coast of Cornwall to admire and photograph the spectacular but short-lived display of field poppies.
Owned by the National Trust, the fields provide a stunning display for a month every year. Social media posts of this area abound as locals and tourists alike come to enjoy the sight of red poppies against the blue sea. At sunset the warm glow of the Cornish sun bathes the poppies in an ethereal light, making photos sing.

We are Sarah and Andrew and we film around Cornwall and publish on UA-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!

Do we do meet ups?
We regularly receive requests to meet up from viewers and subscribers, but unfortunately we do not have availability to be able to do this.
The channel is a very time consuming hobby, fitted around our employment and family commitments. Setting aside time for meet ups, means that we are not able to film and edit our weekly videos that you love to watch.
If you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!

Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book title. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?

No poppies, but beautiful sound of skylarks!
As a blue badge disabled driver with a camper-van as a daily driver, I do find it very hard to park in most places due to height barriers 😢 ANPR I can deal with but I wish councils would stop putting height barriers on virtually every car park. Thank you for giving us an alternative at the pub. It’s been an awful spring, weather wise I’m not surprised the poppies aren’t out yet.
You have so many beautiful flowering plants just growing wild along your coast. Not sure which is more fabulous, the flowers or the ocean view. I understand wearing red poppies is for remembrance, so I wonder if these were planted for this purpose. Here we have orange California poppies, which are a native wild flower. They bloom usually late February, and cover hillsides all over. Always a lovely bright surprise during a dreary time of year. Desert wildflowers are a sight to see as well, and we have the same problems with traffic, etc. due to seekers of the perfect photo op. I'm still excited by those glorious white dogwood roses. :)
We went to see the poppies in 2022 (and will be going again soon) but we parked at Holywell Bay and walked along the coast path. It was a lovely walk!

I was wondering from our hotel room what is the fuss about a field of poppies!! We are driving up from the South of France now on our way to Cornwall and passing fields and fields of poppies like this.
But when we saw the photos in the video of what people have taken with the stunning Cornish Backdrop…it’s definitely something else!!

Crantock beach has been my favourite beach for over 50 years...particularly low-tides early evening with the dog.
Polly Joke is completely different - more of a cove, but the walk down to it from another car park (which I wont mention for fear of it getting swamped) is beautiful, and Polly Joke itself is so exquisite, we walk down from Holywell Bay regularly,
I think you were just a little too early this year Sara and Andrew, for the poppies. They literally burst out overnight and never fail.
I grew up living just outside Newquay. I'd only heard about the poppies about ten years ago. If you had gone in the 1970s and 80s, you would have had the place to yourself. Nobody every mentioned them to me, it was never a big deal. I've never been and I won't be going now due to the over-exposure of it. Tourists just don't care, they have no respect. They think the rules don't apply to them. Crantock and Perranporth is crowded and it isn't even summer yet! I'm really fed up with Cornwall now. Over tourism has totally ruined it. The folk of Cornwall can no longer enjoy it. They're still building houses with no infrastructure to support it in areas that are already unable to cope. We need to take the same stance as Spain and the Canary Islands and put a stop to over tourism and get it back to what it once was. Rant over!
Not all tourists are like that, I’m certainly not. Don’t generalise.
Fabulous scenery and you managed to find some SUN!!!! Wow, the sun is really in short supply so if I was a poppy I don’t think I would feel much like showing off just yet ha ha!!. Crantock and West Pentire are so pretty - it is the car paring that is spoiling everything this year. I have just paid £6,60 for 2 hours 20 minutes 2 weeks ago in Falmouth. Great information again Sarah and Andrew - I think that it is important to highlight incidental expenses when heading to Cornwall- Thanks to Cornwall County Council, groan!!

00:37 We went to see the poppies today, one year exactly since we saw the beautiful floral show. Unfortunately, they were very spartan and the weeds were taller than the flowers that were there.

I’m not surprised poppies are not out it’s been too cold,even the ones in my south facing garden haven’t come up yet.but thanks for trying. Andrew made me laugh when he took his t shirt off 😂.
My son did just this last summer(mid June 23) and came back with some stunning photos. No posing models or dancing dogs, just a carpet of red with polly joke in the background. Absolutely glorious.

We travel just like you do around the UK regularly and are disgusted with the charges car parks are paying. Bearing in mind, many people who holiday in the UK can’t travel abroad. If you are a parent with children and are expected to pay £9+ a day to park it is becoming far too expensive.

When they are best probably depends a bit on the weather that year. We went on 5th july 2019 and the poppies were all but over. The corn marigolds were fantastic though. i don't think they have to replant them. The seed stays in the soil. If it gets too overgrown with grass they don't germinate. If even years later the field is ploughed and the seeds are exposed to light there will be a blaze of colour again. The sound of the skylarks is lovely.
Beautiful video, Beautiful Poppies, reminiscent of fifty year ago in the surrounding of my sisters home, miles of swaying poppies like shining jewels as far as the eye could see, shame about YT making things difficult to achieve, I hear all the time how families are being ripped off and priced out of any enjoyable activities these days, it’s like our freedom is being eroded bit by bit, I wonder if the greedy profiteers will be happy when there is no revenue coming in at all! ….. I remember the scene 🎬 where Aidan Turner comes out of the surf in all his glory, I was there when they were making ‘Poldark’ never allowed anywhere close while filming unfortunately! Great video . We’ve been going to Crantock for our holidays for the last 15 years ,always stay at Treago Farm campsite . The poppy fields are beautiful when in full bloom .

This field looks so beautiful. We walked there once in 2018 but in August, and we didn’t even know about the poppies there at that time. But we spotted a few seals at Polly Joke though 😁 Lovely video. Thank you, I really enjoyed it. Torunn 🥰

What our local bluebell woods have done is put criss-cross paths mown through. That way you can “be amongst the flowers” for your photo opp without standing on them.
We visited the poppy field on 23rd June 2022, and they were in full bloom then.
Lovely video and incredible scenery. Also, really useful information re the car-parking & charges. A really enjoyable Friday treat! Sad about the poppies, but Andrew's Aidan Turner impression more than made up for it. In fact, at that point, I felt obliged to slow the video down to 25%...strictly for purposes of artistic research of course 😉

I do hate seeing more and more people go every year. If they stuck to the paths it would be fine, but I bet they are all trampled flat before the flowers die naturally. Such a shame 😢 I’m local and won’t go, so I don’t add to the problem.
We're there now 👍 its a little early for the poppies yet Polly Joke is definitely the best carpark id avoid the bottom carpark at the Bowgie its expensive, most vw type csmpers can get under the height barrier 👍
Lovely video! West Pentire is one of my favourite places. I live near Lusty Glaze so it's a bit of a walk to get there, but I'm planning a day off work soon so I can enjoy a day out in nature.
I grow poppies in my garden each year, and harvest the seeds for the following year. I always get a 'wonderfully blooming' summer garden. I hope I'm not breaking any rules doing that! 😂
Ive only ever heard that pub name pronounced as "Bow" (bow tie) "ghee" (butter), rather than "bow" (take a bow) "gee" (gee-whizz) Inn. Can any other cornish folk confirm the correct pronounciation? TIA. Xx ❤

We have never seen them as we normally come to Cornwall at the end of September but they do look lovely in the photos. I,m guessing all of the main car parks have put their prices up by a £1 since last year which is abit naughty as we love to beach hop when we come down 😞

When will you be doing actual walks again?
Unfortunately the walk videos no longer attract many views, so we are having to find other subjects with broader appeal. This video is a walk, but if we titled it ‘Walk from Crantock to West Pentire’ it would be lucky to get a couple of thousand views and the revenue generated would not cover our petrol to get there. Unfortunately, with costs rising as they have been, we do need to cover petrol and parking!
Also, UA-cam is getting harder and harder, and if our video does not do well in the first 6 hours, they stop pushing it and that is very demoralising - all that work down the pan!

@@CornishWalkingTrails I am sorry to hear that because you started off as a walking channel and obviously gained followers as such. The same thing has happened with Wendal. I always look out for your new posts so I can tell my parents to watch you because they both love Cornwall and used to walk a lot around the coast and moorland but unfortunately neither of them can now walk so they looked forward to your channel's walks.
Lovely to see West Pentire featured, the first place we stayed in Cornwall, in the 80s. Many happy holidays there and still visit whenever we are in the county. Even outside the poppy season we’ve found lots of wild flowers and birds to enjoy, alongside the stunning sea views. The other side of the headland was covered in bluebells earlier in May and in the past the hillside below the poppy field was awash with cowslips. Sad to read the difficulties of getting views on You Tube, I always look out for your videos but usually have to wait until later in the day to savour them (after work) so not usually within the first 6 hours … should I open them earlier to help the algorithm (and return later of course!)?
