Turn on Modern Standby Assistant and Extreme Standby Mode in Armory Crate, so the system automatically hibernates if it's asleep for 30 minutes. This way, it’s easier to resume your game if you just step away for a short time, and if you end up being gone longer than expected, it will hibernate on its own.
Oh that's great to know, they've sorted that from the pre-production model I had a while back then! Just assumed it was the same on my retail model I bought haha
Back buttons don't work for me on steam, I think because steam doesn't recognize the ally x as a controller with back buttons. If I launch elden ring through armory crate I can use them, but not if I launch through steam.
I believe it recognizes the allyx as a xbox controller if launched through steam. I can't remember the fix but I saw it mentioned in a video before@kevinmcdowell11
Since I am not a competitive gamer, I am definitely capping my FPS at a max of 60 with a 90gHz refresh rate. It will still run quite smoothly, and since it isn't trying to crank all it can all the time, it will perform better even at the full 1080p.
You don't need to have the game closed to remap buttons. You can totally do it on the fly. The device will hibernate automatically if it has been suspended for a reasonably long amount of time to conserve battery.
Very nice video! I'm hoping for a part 2! Concerning the FPS Limiter i do prefer the Radeon Chill feature out of AMD Software. You can set both bars to 40 for RDR2 for example and you never touch it again. So you can do it per game. ❤😊
Hi, what would you guys say is the best charger dock to get, and does this output up to 4k 120hz on tv if you have the right dock? Best to go with Asus products or best 3rd party accessories to get? Plus since the design is quite similar does it fit into current cover cases?
For Display refresh rate, there's an Auto setting (60/120) or you can specifically set either 60Hz or 120Hz. Presumably Auto is based on charging/not charging? I realized mine came set to 120Hz which presumably used a lot more power. I set mine to 60Hz now since most never go over that anyway. In addition I set the FPS limiter to 60.
Thank you for the video! I recently received my Ally X and was wondering if you all plan to offer a case for it. I'm concerned about potential overheating. Any insights would be appreciated.
Hello great video can you advise how to enable hotkeys to quit games in emustation in any emulator so I don't have to close emustation every time thanks
I have questions... I've had my Ally X for 2 weeks. Is it okay to run games in 30w mode while plugged in or 25w not plugged in? I ask because this is what I've been since I bought it but today while playing Borderlands 1 it got super hot like it never has before. When I Google it, people say don't do that. It's bad for the system. But if that's true, then what's the point of buying it. Second. I have 101 background apps running in task manager. How do I know which ones I can close to stop it from overheating. Will turning any of them off hurt the Ally? Thank you in advance.
ofc you can use 25 and 30 watt profiles, thats the beauty of this device. You won't damage it, thats BS. If the system would get too hot, it would shut down, but the cooling is good. You can disable almost every background app and uninstall all windows things like office, video apps and so on without a problem. Only the ASUS services are for things like battery care and command center. If you shut those down, the buttons won't work anymore
Anyone else get random speaker crackles? I did turn off the spatial sound which didnt really seem to help. Happens on silent, performance, and turbo modes. It's rather annoying and im not sure if my speakers are faulty already.
“Sleep” puts everything on your RAM. Ram is volatile memory. So you will lose your work when shutting down the system, as you should. “Hibernation” takes all your data and saves it on your SSD. This non-volatile memory. Which is why your stuff is still there when powering everything on. Sleep needs battery and hibernation does not. Sleep allows for quicker resuming while hibernation has to power on as regular. Trade offs but ultimately up to you.
My triggers are not loose, but the left one feels a bit stiffer. Also when doing the trigger calibration, the left one goes all the way and bottoms out at one point (meaning the points on the screen are maxed out on whatever number they are), while the right one continues to fluctuate never truly stopping at the maximum pressure point. It's not something that's felt in games, but a bit weird. And finally, on the topic of triggers, both of mine developed a nasty spring noise in less than a week, like an old mattress. Usually it went away after a few minutes of gameplay, but it's incredibly annoying on a new, and expensive device. I wasn't planning on opening the device, at least not for a while, but I had no choice. Had to get in there to put a bit of lube on them springs, which solved the issue. And since I was already in there, I went ahead and upgraded the SSD, so it worked out, but I still feel a bit annoyed with the fact I had to "fix" something in a device I got less than a week ago.
Great video, earned a like and sub from me. Question about button mapping to the M1/M2. After finally figuring out you wanted the control setting to be in “Auto” I was able to get it to work. However, it only works for remapping other controller buttons (X,Y, etc). I haven’t been able to map keyboard keys (numbers, F10, anything) to those paddles despite the armory crate saying it’s mapped. Have you gotten this to work? Trying to toggle on RTSS
Hi. Games that runs in 30 fps feels really smoothly in my LG CX (vrr capable), in a not capable vrr tv it feels bad. Is the same experience with the Ally?
Any fix for 1. L2/R2 have different pressure points, it feels different 2. L2 rubs on the housing and squeaks 3. B button squeaks and partially gets stuck in the housing 3. Analog sticks with different resistance Or just Return this quality failed product … 😂
4:07 why is this true like... 80-90% of the time? There is always the odd game on the Ally that still tears with vsync off. And I'm not talking about ones that run at insnaely high frames.
Any examples? I've yet to have any game tear within the VRR frame bracket. Do you have AMD Freesync enabled within the AMD software, under display? Should be on by default.

In many testing, theres no reason to turn off vsync, its actually suppose to be used in conjuction with vrr to make as smooth a screen as possible with framerates limited to 3 fps below the max of the monitor, in the case of the ally set framerate limit to 117, use vrr and vsync for smoothest gaming possible

Will do. 👍
use RTSS and set fps to 117 so it won't go above 120hz. limit 58fps if you use frame gen so if it doubles the frames it still won't go over
Excellent tip!
If the framerate generation is in the game settings activated, does that mean I should limit it to 58 fps ? I would think not
