      I started painting after seeing Bob Ross. My first ever painting was from one of his shows; didn't came out perfect, but good enough to encourage me to continue on something I never thought to have talent in. After a while I started taking classes of various techniques, including the academic method from the 18th and 19th century. I don't paint after Bob Ross anymore, but it's always a pleasure to watch him and I'll be forever grateful to him for opening this world for me.

    Bob has been gone for 21 years. I wonder if it was his painting technique or his calm demeanor and his love of life and voice that left a legacy and turned an Alaskan drill sergeant into a painting legend.

    • @joshledford8921
      @joshledford8921 8 років тому +42

      He wasn't a drill sergeant
      "Ross enlisted in the United States Air Force at 18 years old and served as a medical records technician.[3]:15 He eventually rose to the rank of master sergeant and served as the first sergeant of the U.S. Air Force Clinic at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska,[5][6] where he first saw the snow and mountains that later became recurring themes in his artwork. He developed his quick-painting technique to create art for sale during brief daily work breaks.[6] Having held military positions that required him to be, in his own words, "tough" and "mean", "the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work", Ross decided that if he ever left the military, he would never scream again"

    I think some of the many reasons why Bob Ross is sooooooooooo relaxing is because: 1. His voice is the most soothing I’ve ever heard come out of a human being. 2. His vocabulary is so unique and lovable and happy. 3. The paint brushes pushing and the knife scraping against the canvas. 4. When ever he paints, no matter what part of the video he’s at, it always looks beautiful!!

    Bob Ross - a precious gift whose legend endures, even in the darkness of his absence, we find is only the shade of a happy little tree. What a sweet fantasy to live in a world of his velvety creation.

    It's so amazing how he can make anything he imagines and make it look so realistic too. The knowledge of light and form and perspective and color make every piece so amazing. The realism of each scene always surprises me and it makes me want to paint scenes I've seen in dreams and things.

    Bob has given me an appreciation for this method of doing things I think many of us including myself have lost because of technology. It's essentially meditation. Has helped during my opioid (Suboxone) withdrawal the past week to just leave his channel on autoplay. Don't forget too guys, Bob was in the military for like half his life... I think this man should be respected as more than just some pop culture icon with an ASMR triggering voice.. but as an enlightened individual. Just my two cents. Take care.

    Bob was a realist as far as his paintings went; we can see that as to his realisation that his paintings would never hang in major galleries, whereas, it takes a gift to be creative as to what you see as the natural world and this one dispells the myth that he was a painter and not an artist as he was one of the most talented people as to working out just what to include in a painting. The one reason I follow these is to gather sources of what to paint because as yet, I don't feel talented enough to know what to paint but when I see Bob paint, I am now starting to think along the lines of 'I know what would look good there' and it is only through these trips into the world of nature that I am now able to believe more in myself than ever before.

    My 14 year old son uses Bob's videos to relax after school and to fall asleep at night. Like ASMR. It's awesome. There are so many worse things he could be putting in his head. I asked him yesterday if he was learning any technique for painting and he said, "Yeah, I am, a little." Good. I'll take Bob Ross any day.
