      Agreed. When I was a kid everyone thought we'd be going to Mars in 1999. I'd be amazed if humans ever walked on another planet, TBH - as much as I'd love to see that happen.

      2030 is the absolute earliest there will be some humans on Mars. I'd think by 2035 that there definitely will be humans on Mars.

    Human body is so specifically adapted to earth environment, which is major obstacles to be a multiplanetary species, somehow if they can manage to transfer human conciousness into a mechanical body or at the least can remotely control a mechanical body then it is a game changer, we can explore almost any planets/moons in the solar system.

  • @computerjantje

    The thing always forgotten to mention is that no matter how much we mess up earth with nuclear wars, radiation and pollution, the environment stays way way less hostile than the Moon, Mars a space station or any other place in our reachable solar system. It is not popular to tell as it sounds so romantic to leave earth to find a better life but each and every craft or base that is imagined, designed or build, would be safer for humans to live in when it remains here on earth. It is virtually impossible to mess up earth so much that it becomes safer at another place in space. Sorry for messing up your "going to space" dreams. I still love these technical challenges. They are just not the solution for humans the coming million years.

      There will be no coming millions of years. Humanity would destroy itself if not for the Creator's intervention. This situation has happened before. The original population of the earth became mass-murderers, hating one another. The Creator knew they would destroy themselves. He caused a worldwide flood to drown them all, except for one believing man and his family, who took 2 of every species of animal into a ship he built with his 3 sons, and their wives. It was a huge box (Ark) that could contain them all. They were the only survivors of that flood. The proof is that all humans have 3 basic blood types from Noah's 3 sons.
      The future self-annihilation of mankind will, however be by fire when those, who believe they are superior to all others, will cause mass-starvation to reduce the world population to 5 million elites. Climate control is their point, but they forget that their plan for a perfect earth, without fossil fuel energy, will demand huge numbers of power plants everywhere, whether by solar or wind or nuclear power. This will unbalance the earth's magnetism, causing a world-wide short circuit, setting electric lines and power plants on fire world-wide. There will be few survivors.

    Maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear how they intend to overcome the total lack of an EM field to keep out charged particles from the sun. That alone will wipe everyone out in a few months. Those neat looking suits aren't gonna do shite to prevent radiation poisoning no matter how much they want to pretend they will.

    While Mars is an obvious destination for scientific research I would argue that it is hardly useful for anything else. We do not see people lining up to live in Antarctica, even though it is far more habitable than Mars. So, unless we find very valuable resources worth extracting and transporting, IMHO human presence on Mars will most likely be limited to research and exploration centres. From an economic perspective the Moon is a much juicier target: it's near, has water ice, helium -3, rare earth elements - and its low gravity means low extraction costs. Why bother with Mars?

  • @onusgumboot5565
    @onusgumboot5565 5 місяців тому

    The way I understand it, when people come back from long stays in the space station, they have to be carried from the landing site. Their muscles are no longer used to full gravity after being in micro gravity in earth orbit.
    So if a person survives over a year in space, with the radiation, and even less gravity, which will be hard enough to overcome, then he needs to survive a landing on Mars. Then, with no one to help him, in a weakened state to start with, he needs to construct shelter.
    Then build the entire infrastructure necessary to put together a space port. Complete with the booster rockets that will magically appear somehow. The control room, towers, and whatever else it takes to get off a planet in the first place. With no help from all the hundreds of businesses that make all the stuff needed to do any of it. The gravity on Mars is less than Earth, but still considerable. It will take everything it takes to get off of Earth to get off of Mars.
    Long story short. NO. We will not be colonizing Mars any time soon. The way things are going here, civilization will collapse long before the technology to do so will come close to arriving.
    It's a waste of money and resources. Drones can happen. That's it. And that may very well be a waste too. It's great to learn new stuff, and explore. But the cost is way out of line with the benefits.

    Hate to say this because it may disappoint many, but there is NO WAY that this is going to end well. The only planet that have the perfect conditions to live in is EARTH, and it is and will be our only home. We just have to protect it before it's too late. We always want more and more, why would we need to live on another planet? Look around you, what do you see? You should see the only planet that has had the capacity of sustaining all kinds of life forms for billions and billions of years, including us humans.

    With the Dwayne Johnson example, he would simply have to lift 3 times as much weight on Mars as on earth, to achieve the same effect, right? Therefore, could you not wear a suit weighing several hundred pounds to counteract the lower gravity, or is that a complete misunderstanding of how gravity functions?
