Ford 8N Steering Gearbox Grease Fitting Installation

- A video of me installing a grease fitting in the steering gearbox of a late model Ford 8N so 0 grease (corn head grease) could be used in place of 80w90 gear oil. This will keep things from leaking by the old seals.

My new sitrix Tedder came with grease in gear box. No 2. Watching ur video .verified I did take out the correct screw. Used pump for filling boat inboard lower Unit. Pumped in some.put screw back in quick as was running out.

Yeah as best we could. I will probably do another one on my lathe. I wanted to do it this way first so the average guy who may not have all the machine tools could do it. My camera man made me look good ; )

Thats the million dollar question! Honestly, there is not exact number and if memory serves me correctly, it took almost two tubes of grease (certainly not more). I hope this helps!
my 8N does not have a fitting on the steering shaft
Not all did. This is just showing you how to put a fitting on the gearbox. If you are able to watch the whole video, I discuss other plug styles.
I have Ser#279589, and the bolt he is using is a "blind tapped hole" on my tractor, Even if I was to build a grease bolt like this I stiil would not be able to pump grease in the gear box unless maybe I was to drill a smaller hole into the steering box cavity. Then I would have the problem of drill chips getting in to the gearbox. In my case, The only sulution would be to totally disassemble the steering gearbox to be able to make this system work.

You shouldn't need to cut threads longer than your grease fitting
