Having listened to Hendrix since 1966 I can not believe how good those strings sound - so much like his original vibe in comparison to the standard strings. Boll**** to the estate - as Jimi said " F*** off man and let me play" .
I always use the Jimi Hendrix Voodoo child strings they are fantastic I can't do without them anymore, I have it in all guitars super highly recommended
These strings are great. They're very balanced. The high e and b string are just as loud as the other strings and you can hit them harder than a set of 9s. The d string is from a set of 10s so its perfect for trills because it doesnt flub out. And the low e is very musical sounding. and the g string being a 15 means you can do index finger step/step and a half bends with ease. It pretty much everything you want your strings to do.
The unexpected satisfaction of seeing your recent videos is the knowledge that those who are waiting to wield their copyright strikes HAVE TO SIT STILL AND LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE NOTE YOU PLAY. 😃
Great video Dave! Amazing playing as always. I recently switched to these after years of using 10-52s and the change is astounding. I think it’s very hard to understand unless you’ve played them. The feel is very unique. The balance and consistency in tension across all the strings gives a great playing experience.
If I remember correctly back in the 60s we couldn't get light gauge strings easily or at all, some guys would buy an extra high E string then use an E tuned to B a B tuned to G etc and finally an A string tuned to E for the 6th string. Anyone remember doing this?
Yes Dave for the Jimi Vibe 10-38 is the way to go. I’ve been using GHS 10-38 and immediately felt and heard the difference especially in the wound strings. They were easier to bend and had this springy feel and brightness to them. Going to try these Voodoo strings next!
Just put a set of these on my 74 strat and they are awesome. You are right they are Fender 150 R&R lights because I used to use them back in the day, with the lighter bass strings its easier to play and the guitar named 'Ghost' is a lot easier to play all round.
Been testing out so many string sets lately but I always come back to those. Thank god they're available again because I couldn't get them anywhere for months.
Great video but the blues was truly Amazing that,s why i call you the best guitarist you awsome guitar playing and i always enjoy your video,s thanks Dave for you a the greates guitar player in the world 👌💪🏾👊🏽✌🏽
Wow playing it behind the head.... Absolutely loved the wildness of it all... Some amazing talent there.... With out a dought my top guitarist on UA-cam..got the hendrix feel for sure.. Never seen any one get his style before and have the flare and and the randomness before.. . Loved it. Keep going dave you really are great to watch
Fender, if you sent in these strings for Mr Simpson, may I be the first to congratulate you for finally finding a real, trustworthy individual to tell it like it is. Well done on you Fender. I look forward to seeing more of your sponsored endorsement of this fine musician and gentleman. I greatly enjoyed the editorial and plan on making a purchase based solely on this YT review.
I don’t think it was Fender, I believe it was a guy who sent them into Dave and also gave him a Ibanez wah pedal I can’t believe that was very nice of the guy, then again Dave is the man❕🎸🤟
I just put a set on my Strat today and love them. I usually play 9/42 but wanted thicker high string and looked for some 10/40. Came across these and thought I’ll try them. Your right about being much more even in sound and feel and so easy to play. Not for everyone but I hate fighting against heavy strings. I’m converted. GHS make the same gauge as well.
Hendrix did use this set but substituted a 9 gauge banjo string for the high E. One more major difference was that the Fender strings were 150 Original Pure Nickles. These are nickel plated steel.
Dave, your guitar cove is even more epic than what I'd imagined and put together in my head from different videos!! Looks too cool! Keep jamming man you inspire me to play all the time. Those .10-.38 strings sound awesome!! I bet they feel really nice especially in Eb. That outro was a real treat, thanks for blessing us with that. Amazing stuff. You gotta teach us those Jimi dive bombs and above-the nut scratching!!!!!!!! Thanks Dave
Those skinny low strings a much less overpowering, so to me the whole guitar sounded clearer and less boomy. I'd love a set of 9's with those lighter bass strings.
Doode, I came across these strings while running some Jimi experiments. I liked the results so much that I bought a Hendrix Tribute Strat. Will throw these strings on at my first chance. Awesome playing! Tx for the review.
Thanx for this Info. Yesterday I put a new Set String´s on my 97 FENDER VOOOOCASTER.Strings from Germany, Pyramide String´s, made for Hendrix Style, Speciel... This String´s so divical... Please test it two..
Cool video Dave. Rory Gallagher also used this gauge of strings for most of his career, although he sometimes beefed up the low E to a 40. One of the main benefits is the 'slinkiness' of the 3rd string (15) which makes it easy to do the bending behind the nut stuff he did and bending at the 2nd fret in the key of E. And they do feel more balanced. The drawback is if you play in the heavy strumming fashion of John or SRV, the low strings tend to bend out of tune a bit, in my experience. A compromise some people do (I haven't tried it yet) is to have the 3rd string as a 15, then have normal gauge for the bottom two or three strings.
I always wanted your opinion on what string gauge jimi used, so interesting! I love the vlog style editing too. Also holy ***** totally channelled jimi in that outro
An interesting variation on this string set was Hendrix would move the 10 to the B strong and use a 9 banjo string for the high E, per Andy Aledort in his book "Play Like Hendrix". This set up might explain why Hendrix was also reported to use 9s, as one of his guitars had a 9 high E that was measured.
I've got 2 voodoo strats and they are killer guitars. The neck is super comfortable on them. Mine arent the lefty guitars though still have the reverse wound hendrix 97 pickups. I love the JAM pedals retrovibe for the hendrix tones.
Cool video. Always nice to hear hendrixy stuff being played. As for the strings, I prefer thicker gauges - the thinnest I go is 10-52. But I'm sure they'll appeal to lots of people. It's a matter of feel and grip and we gotta do what suits us best. Do they seem durable to you? Cheers, mate.
Sounds great, but you need to learn to relax and let loose a little... (Just kiddin' lol) Excellent stuff, man. A deep love of Hendrix shines through your playing.
Great stuff Dave. It is a shame these have been discontinued, and personally. I did not enjoy the NPS strings as much as the vintage nickel. If you are looking for these, definitely go bullet ends and vintage nickel for a strat through a Marshall.
Comparing 6:20 to 8:02, there's definitely a tonal difference that is especially obvious on the low E string. But, fresh strings always sound brighter than old strings so I'm not sure how much of it is that vs. the gauges. Whatever the reason, they do sound great, and the second clip definitely has more of that Hendrix low string spank IMO. They'd be nothing without your playing though Dave, which was amazing as usual! You definitely channeled the Hendrix style in your jam.
Hi Dave. I tried svarzo version of hendrix guage strings on amazon. They seemed to give the right vibe when tuned to eb standard. But I don't play that well yet
From what I understand these were configured but Jimis sound engineer and not by tension. They really sing I love them. The .038 takes some getting used to and sometimes I try .042, .046 and even .048. The thing is right out of the package these guys just sing, they just sound great, I love them. I used to use .012 -.056 and tune down to C# standard (Sabbath). I still like that for metal but I love these Jimi strings on my Fenders. Love them.
After Jimi was murdered (lungs full of wine, not stomach, forcing him to vomit sleeping pills and choke to death), his "black beauty" was left in the room, where somebody (I forget who) checked the string gauges and found them to be a standard 9-42 set. He usually used the R&R Fender set, as demoed here, but may have experimented with other gauges, or maybe he leaned towards standard 9-42 sets at the end of his life..? I've got a 1997 Hendrix Tribute, similar to the guitar used here, except maple neck - a period correct to the 1968 model Jimi used, including pickups wound by Abagail Ybarra. I can get the tone, but not play like him the way Dave Simpson does - I'm going to try a set of the 10-38 set to see how it works. The reverse headstock probably makes it more usable than on a regular headstock...?
Fender did also make a 009 set at the time but the G was still a 015 and the bottom E was a 040, again pure nickel wound, Michael Schenker used them for many years.
Yes I could hear the difference, I was in my kitchen, And I wasn't paying attention, then from the tv in the living room I could hear it right away, . They sound "juicy-er"
Just saw these on eBay looking for my stick-to-for-years Fender Bullets 3150LR 9-46's. For me the brass bullet ends (and reverse necks) make a huge playing/sound difference. Glad I found this video so easily cause man, these strings really do sound excellent. Big difference with way more immediate cross the board tone gain and what looks like flexibility on your part? Your playing and set up are really great too, especially when half the guitar peeps here on YT aren't the slightest bit musical and shouldn't be playing at all. Ouch! Did I just say that outloud? Love the mechanical manipulations from 31:39 on too. Bravo!
That playing was just absolutely insane man!! Seriously! I think I need a cigarette after that lol!! Nice mini tour in the intro too. I switched to Rotosound strings recently. They're great, not sure they can make me like that though haha! Cheers Dave
Thanks for the great comparison video of the Voodoo Child Strings. I prefer the tone of the Voodoo strings because they make your strat sound more like Jimi's tone. The Fender set have less bass and more upper mids in the tone. You have a nice tone when you play.
Wow, I wasn't expecting such a difference. I gotta order a set for my strat. I preferred the voodoo strings. They sounded more alive. More even tonally across all the strings for sure.
I just put these on my Mexican Strat a few days ago. The feel is a little weird. They sound good though. I can't play like you or Jimi, so it's a bit of a moot point.
They sound great, and definitely more twangy and clear, as others have commented before. I use them now for approx half a year, and love the sound. However - I wonder they work out for you so well in terms that they don't rattle? Maybe it is because of the upside down headstock? For me, the thinner low strings buzz like crazy. In standard tuning! I even adjusted the setup & actually visited my trusted tech yesterday. He said - it's just the way it is. Thinner strings vibrate more (elliptical pattern) so it is harder to get them buzz free. Doesn't worry me too much while playing, but recorded sounds crappy. Also, you have to adjust your touch and fret + attack more lightly. So I'm still a bit clueless if I should keep them or not.
Time traveller here: Really? Nothing to do about the buzzing? I just get it in the open low E (Eb) string. I play pretty lightly anyway (tried to SRV it for awhile, but it's just not me). Never occurs to most of us that Jimi had a light touch, but I guess he certainly did.
Great playing Dave. The strings sound good too. They have definitely inspired you. Can you tell me what uni-vibe pedal you're using? Thank you, have a great day.
You're welcome Dave. I once tried that playing with me teeth..or tongue or whatever he did there and the behind me head thing...many years ago. Total disaster. The behind the head one due to me stupidly short digits....which is why i asked if i could buy yours..... When i gets round to it though i've gotta try the guitar tapping thing you did, that'll probably be a disaster as well..
I must agree , the Hendrix strings did have a more balanced sound . I have a '15 mim Jimi Hendrix Strat , I'm more than happy with standard 10's , but I'll have to give these a try . Cheers ✌️
I always thought that specific gauge of strings gave that "twangyness" (not a real word I'm sure) of the low E like in the recording of Voodoo Child and other tunes.
Hi, my friend! Today its my time to be in a shity bad day mood... Anyway, talking guitar. I think that your biggest influence must not Jimmy, but JF! You sound very red hot 🌶️🌶️! The strings sound cool! The set its strange, indded, but probally he broke several strings and i has to be mixing strings from sets of 9's and 10's... At least by own past experience, when i was out of money. Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
Nice demo Dave thanks. I've ordered a set to try. I've actually just spotted and bought an old Jim Deacon strat lefty (feels and sounds great !) from a second hand shop for £30 ! .. they're going on that.
Even through a phone they instantly sound better! Much smoother and balanced.👍
There aren't many people around these days who can do Jimi's style justice, and this is the best I've ever seen. Thanks, Dave Simpson!
Thank you very much. : )
Having listened to Hendrix since 1966 I can not believe how good those strings sound - so much like his original vibe in comparison to the standard strings. Boll**** to the estate - as Jimi said " F*** off man and let me play" .

I’m hooked on these strings and will never change.
Rory Gallagher used those .010-.038 as well.
They definitely have THAT tone!!
The unexpected satisfaction of seeing your recent videos is the knowledge that those who are waiting to wield their copyright strikes HAVE TO SIT STILL AND LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE NOTE YOU PLAY. 😃
:)
according to roger mayer interview he did use the exact gauges in this set, including 10's on the high E.
Fender stopped making this gauge for awhile I'm glad they brought it back.
Absolute perfection!! Great job. Univibe was absolutely perfect too! Wow!!
Thank you very much. : )
I had to love this video, lve never seen you happier than you appear to be in your thumbnail! Excelsior!!!!
Thank you very much. : )
Great video Dave! Amazing playing as always. I recently switched to these after years of using 10-52s and the change is astounding. I think it’s very hard to understand unless you’ve played them. The feel is very unique. The balance and consistency in tension across all the strings gives a great playing experience.

100% agree
Congratulations on the performance
Mercy. That beautiful lefty Strat got the deep massage today. Thanks Dave.
Thank you very much. : )

jep and i rewind flat strings
Wow, that outro was simply amazing. I bet Jimi was smiling and jamming with you Dave where he is. And yes, the Jimi strings sounded great.
Thank you very much. :)
Dave you are insanely brilliant on guitar...wow
Thank you very much. : )
FABULOUS Dave!!! Evoking Jimi’s spirit.. 😀🙏🏻🌅🎸♥️🎶🎵🎼💐🍾🥂

I use the GHS too. Love the round core.
which GHS are you using? Boomers, Nickel Rockers?
JimmyDevere Boomers 10-38

Best outro ever. Friggin epic, full stop....and thank you.
Thank you very much. :)
The new strings were great. Much clearer and cleaner than the old ones. I'll be getting a few sets. I agree that they also sound more evenly balanced.
I must taste Your Fender String´s two. Thanx for the Tip.Very nice String Demo
Great video but the blues was truly Amazing that,s why i call you the best guitarist you awsome guitar playing and i always enjoy your video,s thanks Dave for you a the greates guitar player in the world 👌💪🏾👊🏽✌🏽

Hello, From the USA 🇺🇸
I'm new to your UA-cam Channel..
You rock 🎸 🎶 Thanks For Sharing.

On a separate note.... your beard looks good Dave!
Thank you very much. : )
Thanks a lot, Dave. Now two whales are knocking on my door demanding to know what I was calling about.
Sorry. : )
Hendrix did use this set but substituted a 9 gauge banjo string for the high E. One more major difference was that the Fender strings were 150 Original Pure Nickles. These are nickel plated steel.
They now make a set in pure nickel too
Yes, I heard a similar thing in Andy Aledorts book
Man, that Hendrix at Woodstock tone is killer. The orange amp is the shit.
Thank you very much. : )
Dave what univibe were you using at the end, sounds great and where did you place it in the chain?
For a minute I thought you were gonna set it on fire and smash it! Stay awesome dude. You're the best.
Thanks Dave
Thank you very much indeed. : )
11:55 "I'm sure if Jimi was around he'd have something to about that." Nothing better than some humor with education!
Dave, you are wild i love it , Rock on, Cousin Figel
A feast to my ears!
Ha, love the opening, 'the stairway to guitar heaven'! 😂
Thank you very much. : )
the corner of the wall plays better guitar than me
noah Me too. There are seriously 8 year olds on UA-cam that are better than me
Jimi would approve !!
I hope so. Thank you very much. :)
Thanks, That was an Experience!
...Man, you're good!
Thank you very much. : )
Those skinny low strings a much less overpowering, so to me the whole guitar sounded clearer and less boomy.
I'd love a set of 9's with those lighter bass strings.
They both sounded great...maybe the Voodoo strings a bit more high end and vintage sounding...but its you and the guitar not the strings
Thank you very much. : )
Doode, I came across these strings while running some Jimi experiments. I liked the results so much that I bought a Hendrix Tribute Strat. Will throw these strings on at my first chance. Awesome playing! Tx for the review.
I first started trying to ‘do’ Hendrix in the early 70s and imho you really have a feel for it. Very nice.
Thank you very much. : )
Playing this gauge for a long time now, its such an awesome feel and for jimi stuff you especially hear it on the lower strings with a fuzz :)
Would love to see you demo the Marshall Origin 50 Head!
Take my word for it - it sounds great!
A video on your stringing method would be cool Dave
Back in the day they used to use banjo strings for the high 'e' as you couldn't get 8's
Going off on the Hendrix vibe ✌🏻
Impressive playing my friend
Thank you very much. : )
Thanx for this Info. Yesterday I put a new Set String´s on my 97 FENDER VOOOOCASTER.Strings from Germany, Pyramide String´s, made for Hendrix Style, Speciel... This String´s so divical... Please test it two..
Beautiful playing my man straight from another world
Thank you very much. : )
13:13 is when the heavens begin to part and Jimi’s hand reaches down…
Cool video Dave.
Thank you very much indeed. : )
10 38 hurray! I use GHS Boomers in that gauge and I - LOVE - IT!
I always wanted your opinion on what string gauge jimi used, so interesting! I love the vlog style editing too. Also holy ***** totally channelled jimi in that outro
Thank you very much. : )

you answered q lol
i offend thought about a left handed guitar dam Dave you make every look easy
That final, man .. respect brother
Thank you very much and they do indeed seem very durable. : )
Sounds great, but you need to learn to relax and let loose a little... (Just kiddin' lol)

Hi Dave. I tried svarzo version of hendrix guage strings on amazon. They seemed to give the right vibe when tuned to eb standard. But I don't play that well yet
Omg... me, running to my dealer to got this voodoo child strings set! Lol! Awesome playing by the way! Hello from Québec
Thank you very much. : )
How about an MTV cribs style tour?
From what I understand these were configured but Jimis sound engineer and not by tension. They really sing I love them. The .038 takes some getting used to and sometimes I try .042, .046 and even .048. The thing is right out of the package these guys just sing, they just sound great, I love them. The Fender Voodoo Child Strings sounded more jangly. More bouncy?
Amazing demo and soulful playing brother!!! What pickups are in your Strat.... Most importantly the New Pickup?
Evil sheep experience pickups.
After Jimi was murdered (lungs full of wine, not stomach, forcing him to vomit sleeping pills and choke to death), his "black beauty" was left in the room, where somebody (I forget who) checked the string gauges and found them to be a standard 9-42 set. I liked the sound of your new strings, maybe because they are new strings?
By the way,how often do you change your guitar strings? Nice video!
Una vez dijo que las cambia solamente cuando se rompen.
Dave has said in the past that he changes strings when they break. He prefers well worn in strings.
@@nee_nee_ Gracias men!
@@jltrem Thank u m8,I also think that it must be a pain in the ass to change strings regularly on all of his guitars xD
Thank you very much for watching. : )
I'm a lefty how much for that strat? 👀
To answer the question...I wants 'em...like NOW..!
Dave this is absolutely epic - I think I'm gonna take a break from 10-46 on my strato baby and go to jimi guage. Will report back
Awesome. Have fun. :)
That playing was just absolutely insane man!! Seriously! I think I need a cigarette after that lol!! Nice mini tour in the intro too. I switched to Rotosound strings recently. They're great, not sure they can make me like that though haha! Cheers Dave
Thank you very much. : )
Thanks for the great comparison video of the Voodoo Child Strings. I prefer the tone of the Voodoo strings because they make your strat sound more like Jimi's tone. The Fender set have less bass and more upper mids in the tone. You have a nice tone when you play.
Thank you very much. : )
Sweet jams, Dave! Time to throw on "Are You Experienced?".
Thank you very much. : )
this is probably the one strat with all single coils that i like, and this is coming from a guy that fucking loves single coils
I think you can call the last jam "Possession" !

Great playing Dave. The strings sound good too. They have definitely inspired you. Can you tell me what uni-vibe pedal you're using? Thank you, have a great day.
Thank you very much and the uni vibe is coming from the Line 6 HX. : )
Goosebump outro!
Thank you very much. : )
I'd put another comment..but after that performance i'm lost for words....
Thank you very much. : )

I must agree , the Hendrix strings did have a more balanced sound . I have a '15 mim Jimi Hendrix Strat , I'm more than happy with standard 10's , but I'll have to give these a try . Cheers ✌️
Thank you very much. : )
I always thought that specific gauge of strings gave that "twangyness" (not a real word I'm sure) of the low E like in the recording of Voodoo Child and other tunes.
I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's mainly.
Where'd you get a rosewood Lefty_neck with the Reverse Strat Decal? Only seen those on the fender woodstock strats with the maple fretboard
Sounds awesome dude love that guitar to.
Thank you very much indeed. : )

The guy is amazing
Hi Dave how do you mod the strat like that I have a lefty strat and I want to do the Hendrix mod to play upright down righty.
Just flip the nut and restring it.
Thank you very much. : )
it seemed to me to be alot more bite - mid and high on the low strings, and a more even balanced volume.
