    We have loved watching your video. So many times have we returned to this beautiful, tranquil place on the Wolds yes in all seasons though we have never ended up in the ford. Really enjoyed your commentary, so personable. Will look forward to catching up on all your other videos.

      Thank you it is great to read lovely messages like this.
      Your driver must have been concentrating better than I 😂 I couldn't turn around so just had to keep going even if it meant a slide down an iced road in to the ford..it was all good fun 😂

    I'm glad to see you're intending to remake this film, coz the current version contains a fair few errors! It is also good practice - and polite - to acknowledge your sources, and to make clear that this is an English Heritage site that's open to the public for free.

    Loved this! You have a good story telling manner too! I live in York which is full of history itself but grew up in the east riding, the wolds being a soft spot for me too. This place has fascinated me since i was a child!

      Sounds spot on ☺️ you would have had the place to yourself by then I reckon. I bet the temperature went down faster than the sun did 🥶

      Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoyed it ☺️ did your u visit for a general visit or was their a further purpose?
      It was rather impromptu but good for ones humors given the times we are in. When there my mind is constantly trying to imagine what it would potentially look like, feel and sound......I maybe less bothered about how it once smelled though. I think I may visit an abbey next...

      @@stepthroughhistory I visited a few times as a Medieval Studies student- I remember the coach parking us up at the top and realising how far we'd have to walk through the mud to get there... May I suggest some of the wonderful Yorkshire Cistercian abbeys? Rievaulx or Kirkstall spring to mind!

    • @stepthroughhistory
      @stepthroughhistory  3 роки тому +2

      Hehe The mud can be a special type of cement round there 😂
      You may suggest...I positively encourage it sir. I can do those wonderful abbey's, rievaulx
      was certainly on the list, kirkstall is probably too far for me at the moment so for now if I can't get close geographically I will get as close as possible alphabetically, how does kirkham abbey sound? It's not Cistercian, it's not kirkstall but it has got Kirk in the title

    Since the church only collapsed in 1959 I can't see why it hasn't been restored, given the importance of the site. And why is the farmhouse empty when it would be worth nigh on a million ?

      I have not a clue but I guess there isn't much work going on there and it wasn't worth installing mod cons etc. Maybe it would make an amazing museum or visitors centre etc but we all know there wouldn't be the finding sadly 😔

      @Step Through History I have made an effort to build the village on my M&DR simulation but haven't done a run through it yet.

      That I would love to see. Gonna flip through my deserted villages book to see if there is anything that would help but sounds like you already have what you need. Will check it your channel 😊

      @Step Through History it's based on the historical ordnance survey maps on the National Library of Scotland. There was some kind of pump house at Wharram Percy to pump water out of the tunnel but I think nothing is left of it.

      The lead was stolen from the roof after the tower collapsed and it was decided that the cost of restoring it was too high, given that it wasn't in use. the decision was taken to conserve the building as a ruin and excavate the interior of the building
