Great pick Don! By the way, Chris Issac also recorded an excellent cover of this song in 2011. Carl Perkins was one of the original rockabilly singers of the 1950s along with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis. etc. Carl wrote, recorded and had a number 1 hit with "Blue Suede Shoes". I've read that Elvis held off on releasing his own version of "Blue Suede Shoes" out of respect until Carl's original version finished running its course at number 1 on the charts. Carl was a farm boy out of Arkansas. (Just like Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell). His band included his two brothers, Jay on guitar and Clayton on upright bass. They later added W.S. "Fluke" Holland on drums. Other well known songs by Carl were, "Honey Don't", "Boppin' The Blues", "Matchbox", "Your True Love" and more just to name a few. ("Honey Don't" and "Matchbox" were both covered by the Beatles.)
Good selection for this morning. Carl was known for his rockabilly and being a founder of rock-n-roll. This is a 1956 song written by Carl Perkins and Howard "Curley" Griffin when they both recorded for Sun records. The song went to #10. The song is about a little night spot were people gather to drink and party. I thought everyone in North America knew Carl Perkins wrote and first recorded "Blue Suede Shoes". 🙂 🙂 You said you were a rock guy and Carl is part of rock-n-roll history .... haha Did you play hooky that day? 🙂 🙂 I like seeing you stumped it proves you are human and thanks for the reaction
If Carl hadn't been seriously injured in a car accident just after "Blue Suede Shoes" had taken off as a smash hit in 1956, his career would have maintained more momentum. Instead, Elvis Presley moved in, and the rest is history.
Thank you very much ..by the way Carl Perkins is a true legend in terms of writing famous songs , singing , playing guitar and rocking on stage. If you don't know the king of Rockabilly ...
Both Carl's and Elvis's version of Blue Suede Shoes were on the charts at the sometime. I remember listening to the radio and they would play both versions and tell you who was sing that time.
Another pioneer from Sun Records in Memphis. And a great, fantastic guitar player. All the great guitarist know who he was. Thanks for your reaction.

Hank Williams Jr living proof
Not to be confused with Bill Anderson's 'Southern Fried.'
