I think the show's writing and characterizations are sloppy, but I'm all about Alan Tudyk going full ham. Which is why you should watch Harley Quinn, a much funnier and more focused DC show that features Alan as both the Joker and Clayface.

Doom Patrol not only proves that there are avenues for adaptions of some of Grant Morrison's greatest works..It also proves that their work can be adapted with absolute precision and love so much so that they actually end up transcending the original source material
Problem till now is they kept trying to cram Morrison works into 90 min - 2 hour movies instead of a show like this with much more time ot flesh out characters and details.

Dr. Harrison actually is in the comics. She was introduced in Gerard Way’s run and was created from the trauma Jane suffered from watching Ahl the God of Superheroes be bludgeoned to death with Danny the brick.
I'm glad someone already said this cause I didn't want to be "that nerd" also she did create a cult in the comics as well but it was so she could transfer the other personalities into their bodies and then kill them to become the sole persona.

Doom Patrol's writing and directing are fairly strong but the whole thing stumble if it weren't for near perfect casting and acting. Diane Guerrero, Brenden Frasier, and April Bowlby are outstanding.
It’s a character driven rather than plot driven show (and I stand by that, despite how many insane and convoluted plots are thrown at us) so it makes sense that the writing is only as strong as the acting. I think both are great but it is pretty perfectly cast (and one of Bomer‘ smote interesting roles since his soap opera days-seriously).

Okay, that's a lie. The Black Canary suddenly turning for no reason did; and show was already on thin ice after the Arrow team I actually gave a shit about all left. But AC was very disappointing, he would have been WAY more interesting as a District Attorney.
Elasti-Girl as a blob lady was from the comics too. It was from Keith Giffen's Doom Patrol run in 2010. She had to rebuild herself every morning from a pile of skin and goop.
I've never read the comics, and if this show was ever described to me, I would've thought "That sounds extremely stupid and corny." However, after watching it, I will say that this is one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Now that I FINALLY finished binge-watching both seasons (I actually meant to take my time, but they were just TOO good), I watched this video and dang, it was fun. I really, really hope you're going to create a part two to talk about the second season.
Thanks for putting it out there that this is an amazing show! Doom Patrol should be way more popular than it is. Not only is the dope underrated Bond Timothy Dalton so good in this but Brendan Frasier is amazing and Alan Tudyk kills it as Mr. Nobody.
For me Doom Patrol and The Boys has been the perfect antidote to all the super hero films and tv shows which I felt were becoming too "samey" and homogenized (if I had to sum them up, The Boys is superheroes gone bad whilst Doom Patrol is superheroes with personal demons), Cliff's character (Brendan Fraser) is a great antihero reminding me of Eric Cartman in South Park ("screw you guys... I'm going home") and in every episode had me giggling at the expletives & profanities and how he used them.
I think this show and The Mandalorian, with Robotman and Din Djarin, have proved how much you can accomplish as an actor without using your face. Brendan Frasier is in a full body robot suit most of the show and he kills it, same with Pedro Pascal
Danny the street is named after a real life drag queen named Danny La Rue. Also Morrison recently came out as Non-binary so maybe there’s more to their Doom Patrol run then just the psychedelics.
I’d love to see them do a whats the difference on Mash. Especially if they add in some stuff with the show and what they changed from the book/movie as well
as classic as that dig is x-men came out like 6 months after Doom Patrol and would have been in production before x-men came out. That being said they're most likely both better described as a twist on the fantastic 4

When we think of the identity of a comic team, the impulse association is that they had always existed in the form we first found them. Morrison's run with DP is rightly going to be most people's first impression of the team, the same with the 90's X-MEN cartoon with the Jim Lee costumes. going back to their comics original runs seems alien and unimportant.
Honestly, having looked into the comics after the show, I wish they had gone more extreme. Like, the whole Decreator arc has so many cool things. People talking scrambled, evil eyes, etc.

Dalton's Niles takes a lot from the original Chief who is an unabashed good guy and grew to love his team as a family. So the warmer aspect is a rerailment.
Cyborg is more connected to the comic Doom Patrol than is implied here. Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s Legendary run on the New Teen Titan’s was very very much a semi sequel to the original Doom Patrol. That interwove with that teams story. Many of the original characters from Doom Patrol returned in Titans. While Beast Boy was the only direct carryover, the similarities among some team members was very apparent both in and out of universe. With Cyborg having a bit of a sympathetic connection to Robotman, both being in similar situations. The Titan’s also inherited the original Doom Patrols villains and brought closure to many story arcs long left open. The Titan’s bringing much of the DP back in a somewhat classic form is what led to Morrison’s run. (Following a few false starts.)
You know, just from hearing the Constantine knock-offs voice, I actually think he would make a pretty good Constantine voice actor if we didn't already have the perfect cast of Matt Ryan.

Finally, a superhero show that actually devotes time to heroes dealing with their past traumas.
