@@gsxrgains There's not a big difference actually. New bikes have 30-40hp more at top end so they are a bit faster and it makes sense when you do top speed runs and racing. K5-6 has a strong low and midrange power the new bikes are lacking and it's a much better engine for street use. Of course new bikes have better suspensions and brakes but they're not revolutionary. I've ridden older and newest models and they all have their advantages and disadvantages, all of them are great.
I don't care what bikes came before or after the K5-6 GSXR1000. They will always hold thier own place in history. The bike was incredible then and still is now. The last of the raw, analog bikes before the gadgets took over. Throw your leg over it, start it and warm it up. Ride it to the best of your abilities. Your limit will be reached far before you ever reach the limits of the bike. No electronic gadgetry, not even a hydraulic clutch. It only weighed 6 lbs. more than the 750. If you have ever ridden one for more than a test ride, or swapping bikes for a few miles with a friend, you will know and appreciate how perfect Suzuki got it right those two years.
K5/6 have a hydraulic clutch, look at the clutch cover (right side), there is no clutch shaft and lever on it, clutch shaft come from left to right through primary gear shaft and it is hydro driven. Great bike with only one small problem, twin spar alu frame is prone to cracks around steering head, it was an official recall by Suzuki, front brakes are really wooden with no initial bite.
@@branko917 I think I may have been to assuming in my description. The actuation of my clutch lever to my clutch fork is cable operated, no hydraulic type of slave.
@@branko917 also, it did have a recall for the frame reinforcement or replacement as well as the brake master cylinder. Both were still promptly addressed on my K61000 bike when I took it out of storage after 11 years in 2019

I've been driving a 2005 GSX-R 1000 K5 for 18 years and I'm still as happy as the first day. super machine
Don't sell it, you will regret it if you buy a new bike.
@@Cool07R6SRider You are absolutely right. :)
You should be happy as it’s faster than a Ducati V4 😂
@@Cool07R6SRiderBuy a new bike and keep the K5. New bikes are next level.

K7-K8 only had a hydraulic clutch
