Jackie's painting storyline is similar to a storyline in Take the High Road where Gladys Lachlan who is married to Dougal takes up with the art teacher Orr Kennedy.

You're being harsh,Bar Brookie was alright although it was never in the same league as Queen Vic,Rovers Return or The Woolpack but if you wanted a quick drink it served its purpose adequately.
I used to watch Brookside in this period. I worked during the week, so usually watched the omnibus at the weekend. Great days.
