I will say as a hmong american who speaks a tonal language it’s nice to not have to learn how to play the harp In it’s entirety because you’re used to making shapes with your mouth to make the sounds in sequential order for a song. These were nice new tricks to add!
I had just started to learn the traditional hillbilly jaw harp when I found this vid. It inspired me to switch to the dan moi. My nearly purchased ebay instruments arrived today and I eagerly began to start twanging. And I made an important discovery. If you have a beatd make sure it is trimmed back or end up with stray strands of hair wrapped painfully around the twanged. And it had been going well until then!
It's kinda funny, I always saw mouth harps as just some weird toy, not an instrument. But the sounds are actually cool. Bought a tripple of dan moi from Amazon out of a whim and this video was the first to pop up when I searched how to play it. Thanks for teaching me. Who would've thought a little sheet of brass could be so much fun.
Thanks for your tips! I used to play the mouth harp but since my teeth are so sensitive I'm glad you recommended the dan moi! It's an amazing instrument, thanks!
You were right. Thank you so much! As I got it I only new jaw harps from Snoopy the dog. Now I found a very huge and interesting theme to learn about, thanks for that! Your channel is great there
This is good for to learn I think. Have this since today. Cant stop 😊 Now I like to have a bigger one with more Sound ( medium deep, vibrating) and for a better handle and both side to switch with the finger ( for faster playing). Luv your channel, it helps so much ❤ I hope you can help me pls Greetings from germany
Apart from the construction and the lip instead of teeth-playing, what is the difference between this and a Jew's harp? What are the advantages and disadvantages of dan mois in comparison to Jew's Harps? Thanks!
- Because it is flat, it fits in your money purse - needs so little space. - Nice for people without teeth :) - Carry it as a stylish necklace - and have it ready at hands, anywhere.
Do you still sell harps? I've bought from you before, but that was YEARS ago.. Unfortunately I moved and had to leave a lot of stuff behind, I'd like to replace some of it, if you still have your store going?
Mine just came in the mail, sounded great, but in 15 mins the tongue is hitting the side and it doesn’t work anymore. Do you know how to fix it? It’s awful cuz it just came in and I was loving it
They require a delicate touch but give quite sensitive sound. Hold it to the light. See which side is touching. Bend it slightly to the side opposite it is touching. For more support email theharpery@gmail.com with your order number

Thanks! How does the Dan Moi type of harp compare with other kinds of harps in terms of volume?
They are decent.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 cool thanks
Which type is the one in the video?
This is a Vietnamese Bass Dan Moi.
Very similar design to the Ainu people of Hokkaido’s mukkuri.

Yes as always at theharpery.com
Are there any books on how to play dan moi
+Jennifer Atwell I am not sure.
out of curiosity if your dan moi string broke would the dan moi itself be playable or would it not work without the string?
It would work. The string only keeps it attached to the case.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 Ah ok thanks for the reply!
