When I was a kid in the 70's I remember on Remembrance Day the long parades of WW2 veterans parading down to the memorial to lay wreaths, now there's maybe 5 of them, at most, still alive.
My Grandfather was a WWII vet and I have had the privilege to meet many Vets of that era from all branches of the service. I have heard some surprisingly candid stories which I consider fortunate as many Vets don't speak too much about their experiences because it's too painful for many. I salute all who serve and especially Combat Vets, they keep our flag flyin'.
My uncle was in wwll he was a sharp shooter. At least that's what he called it. Never hunted again after he came home. My Dad said he had enough shooting. God bless all of you veterans!!!
@ McInnis- I wasn't bashing on Fred, I was just stating that a Sharp Shooter was a Subclass to the classification when he qualified with his weapon in Basic Training, Numbnuts……...

my father was in the Navy during WWII and Korea. He passed in 1987. I regret that I had the opportunity to talk to him about it, but squandered that chance.
My grandfather fought as a Flak-Captain and as a Soldier for the German 3. Empire, and he helped so many wounded american and british Soldiers. But if he would say this today, everyone is going to hate him and saying which bad person he is - its sad. Im not a Nazi, but he also deserves to get a remeberance. Thats my opinion.
There are many examples of soldiers showing mercy and respect for their enemies, on both sides. I believe in Band Of Brothers, one of the veterans speaks about how he didn't hate the Germans and looked at many of them thinking, if the war wasn't going on, that man and I may have become fishing buddies.
That Belgium man found my dads mess kit he took five years to find my dad. He offered my dad it back he said keep it and put it in your museum you have. Great guy

The other reason was for emergency bus or taxi fare to get you back to the base on... after all the drinking money you had was expended. ''For none are closer to the very Author of Sacrifice... But think about this. They are all victims of the circumstances. Soldiers then and sports athletes today. It is not their choise to make wheter they are made heroes. If you have ever been in the military you know that you don’t fight to get medals. You fight for a cause and for your country and your brothers and sisters in arms. And also because your told to. Nowadays ”heroes” are different because times are different. And these kinda men we are to thank for the world we are living in now. It is better because of them. It is better to be a hero in sports than a hero in a war. War has never done any good in the world. In war there is only two outcomes bad and worse. And the soldiers that have fought in a war know this. They have lost friends and family because of it. They had to kill other human beings and they will carry that burdain to the grave with them. If you’ve never done it yourself you can’t understand how heavy that burdain is. THERE ARE NO HEROES IN WAR. ONLY VICTIMS. Show this to any veteran and ask if there are any heroes in war. Sure there are acts of heroism but it is not the same thing. Heroes are a good example of stupidity. People don’t think things true they want to believe everything. So they watch sports, movies, soap operas and so on and so on. It is all a lie. We are a lie. And especially media is nothing but a lie. It lives on lies. And if you read this far than good for you. Think about things. XD i’m outta here!
Big slow You're too easily triggered, snowflake. Try becoming a man one day. The heros shown here don't give a damn about who stands and who kneels for our flag. What matters is what they believe. You'd know this if you actually talked to any. Grow a pair.

I'm not sure what you are getting at, but it implies the tension that exists between Europe and the U.S. in the current political climate. You should know that this gratitude that is shown here is still the norm here. Most people over here are as thankful as ever to these men for what they did and show it every year in great memorial ceremonies. Do not mistake any problems people may have with the current behaviour of some Americans for ingratitude towards those that fought for our freedom 75 years ago.The two aren't related and should not ever be. It dishonors the memory.
Even if you think the Americans took too long to join the war, they did. The brave men didn't have a say in when they were deployed, but they were, they did their thing and affected so many live because of it. Regardless of one's opinion the deeds of these men cannot be denied. I'm European if it matters.
I've been to Normandy twice and I can tell you, they have NOT forgotten. I saw elderly locals paying respects at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-mer with tears in their eyes.
I will never understand how a single soul could tap thumbs down to these courageous veterans. I brought my two Sons over for the 75th celebration and they will never forget the experience. My Dad was in the battle and was a medic and subsequently was wounded toward the end of hostilities. I’ve never seen or experienced anything like it and I served during the Vietnam Nam War and I’m so thankful the people of Belgium and other European Countries still take time to honor our men and women. God bless each and every one of you for your selfless sacrifices and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, I will never forget you and what you did so help me God.
A living tribute to a generation of Great Men. Who faced down evil in their time. This should be a great reminder of where we come from, and who we owe so much to. Liberty and freedom.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
My dad was in the 557th AAA. They were connected to Patton’s Big Red One and were on the western end of the three pronged attack at the bulge. He died in 2000 at 77yo. I would give up body parts to have him still here!
*+BASTOGNE, BELGIUM:* It is a blessing to know that people like these, who honor our US (and allied) heroes, still exist out there. If only my grandfather had lived to see or experience any of this kind of thing. He was there, too. I had a great-grandfather there, though I did not ever get to meet him or learn any of his history. My grandfather had been a WWII and Korean War Veteran. My father and uncle, along with my step-father, were all multi-tour Vietnam Vets. I know that they are all still honored by family who share who they had been, though that just is not the same... it is just that, sadly, most of the younger generations do not care. Not for those who protect today and will protect tomorrow, and certainly not for the ones who protected yesterday and back to so long ago. I will never forget. But one day I will be gone, too. Who will remember then? Names on a wall or memorial... so overwhelming. There just is not enough thanks to go to them all. Thank you to this community for not forgetting, and for honoring those who could come. Too bad some in their own nation have short memories. ~Peace!
These are the people our youth should be looking to as role models. (Not ball players or rappers). I plan on sharing their memories with my kids when they're old enough. Wish my grandfather was still here to tell them about his experiences.
It’s amazing to see this. Think of all the veterans who didn’t process what they went through. It’s only after Vietnam that we were able to acknowledge the mental and emotional wounds created by war. These men lived through hell and the whole western world thanks them.
I cried tears of joy watching this. I’m always amazed at how much dignity and character shines through from our veterans. My Grandfather served with the British Army on the North African and Italian fronts. He passed away when I was 4 years old so I never had a chance to discuss his life with him. When Mr. Davis said he would give his duffel to his grandson, that really hit me. THANK YOU to all those who served in any conflict, so that we may enjoy our freedoms! ❤
People who like it when the editor isn't shit at his job. Narrator in only the left ear, random flashing during video, etc. gets really annoying really quick. I don't hate the content just the editing and delivery.
My dad was a WWII decorated combat vet and POW. My mom was a first generation German-American who also lost a cousin fighting as a Panzer Grenadier in Russia. All veterans whether Americans, Germans and Russians need to be respected...most of them were drafted at a very young age and really were so young and really knew nothing about fighting and yet they were sent to fight and die. We need to respect them....and realize their lives had value. WWII is over 70 years behind us now...we need to heal those wounds. My dad who was wounded as a combat vet in Anzio and who became a POW eventually made a good friend with a German soldier who emigrated to the US and who became a dedicated American citizen who loved this land too.
I would genuinely give so much to sit down for just an hour with one of the brave ole boys. Thank you for yalls service gentleman. Sticking through thick and thin to give us the freedoms we have today we all appreciate it!

My Grandfather fought for Germany he was a very good man, and dont fight for the Ideology of the Nazis. He was a Soldier like your American Grandfathers. And we must respect both sides. :)
My opa also served in the Luftwaffe, after immigrating the US in the 50's he joined the local VFW. It was amazing to see him just sit and talk for hours with the American solders. Even though they fought on opposite sides they shared a kinship that no one could understand unless they went through the hell they did.
Theres a thing people dont understand about fighting for your countrymen and nation instead of a ideology or for 1 person if we had been in a similar situation many wouldve joined no matter who was in charge and sometimes many just don't have a choice
My Grandfather to. Fought with the 101st. He opened up to me before he passed away. And told me some of what happened during the war. One was about and a German Soldier he came across while there wasa lull going on. He said the regular soldiers were just normal guys just like him. They were just doing their duty. But the SS was something else. The SS was hated . I don't believe many of them survived the war.

Thank you Mr.Ford!...I used to mow his lawn as a kid and he told me about this with tears in his eyes.....He had the face of a bulldog and a tough disposition to go right along with it as well. He was an amazing soldier who jumped in Holland with the 30k men, fought in the bulge, and then in the Korean war where he injured his knee after multiple jumps with his men and was forced to retire....GOD BLESS YOU MR. FORD!...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
True HEROES of America....God bless them all.

Beautifully said.
Well said!

If you get the opportunity to see these veterans when they all get together, you don’t need to let your eyes go soft, they stand taller, walk more firmly and the years fall away, they are back there even if only for the shortest time.
Bravest men America has EVER made. You all put in the work and saw it through to the end! Thank you and God Bless you all!

When I was a kid in the 70's I remember on Remembrance Day the long parades of WW2 veterans parading down to the memorial to lay wreaths, now there's maybe 5 of them, at most, still alive.
There is less than 500,000 still alive

"He'd like to have my .45" what a badass
My Grandfather was a WWII vet and I have had the privilege to meet many Vets of that era from all branches of the service. I have heard some surprisingly candid stories which I consider fortunate as many Vets don't speak too much about their experiences because it's too painful for many. I salute all who serve and especially Combat Vets, they keep our flag flyin'.
Real men that were tougher than you could imagine, a generation that must always be remembered
My uncle was in wwll he was a sharp shooter. At least that's what he called it. Never hunted again after he came home. My Dad said he had enough shooting. God bless all of you veterans!!!
thats is just a classification when he qualified in firing his weapon in Basic Training
Kevin Barwiler. Shut up. Let this man be proud of his uncle
@ McInnis- I wasn't bashing on Fred, I was just stating that a Sharp Shooter was a Subclass to the classification when he qualified with his weapon in Basic Training, Numbnuts……...
Kevin Barwiler Not necessarily platoons and sections sometimes have a designated sharpshooter more so in this time but while I was in I saw infantry units that still did.

Okay dude at that time I was really stressed out from the Thailand Cave rescue... Sorry

This is how we supposed to treat veterans, no matter from where they came from, after all they gave their best service to their country
SS?
What a hero for helping them. He coulda.. you know. But instead......
ur grandpa is a traitor
but a good traitor because the germans were bad
There are many examples of soldiers showing mercy and respect for their enemies, on both sides. I believe in Band Of Brothers, one of the veterans speaks about how he didn't hate the Germans and looked at many of them thinking, if the war wasn't going on, that man and I may have become fishing buddies.
Wow quite amazing to see. God bless these men and all the men who served.
That Belgium man found my dads mess kit he took five years to find my dad. He offered my dad it back he said keep it and put it in your museum you have.
Great guy
Hi, just wondering how he knows the mess kit belongs to your dad? Is there any form of identification on the mess kit?
Lee BH all my dad put on it was his 3 initials. He worked tirelessly. He does it with every piece he finds if it’s at all possible.
To those who didn’t come back may you rest in blissful peace. And for those that did make it back thank you for your bravery and sacrifice and the sacrifice of your innocence. You all will never be forgotten long as we hold our memories and history that you all had made. God bless

Every single one of these brave men are humble and reserved. This truly was the greatest generation.
0:30 It was my good fortune to have worn one of those caps with the Parachute & Glider patch on it... if only but for a year. It was replaced by the maroon beret for the other 2 years in which i'd served. In his day, rumor had it that a couple of siver dollars would be sewn intact behind that patch for a couple a reasons. To aide in a brawl when gripped at the coins opposite end & setting the weight of the said coin, or coins, end into a black jack wailing action. The other reason was for emergency bus or taxi fare to get you back to the base on... after all the drinking money you had was expended.

These men are true heroes compared to the professional sports athlete that today's society has made into wanabe heroes
Yes Sir, we have that problem with sports people in New Zealand being regarded as hero's especially by the media, but, they are not.
Leave it to the fake patriots to bring sports stars into this.
Pull your head out of Fox new's rear and stop being outraged.
Tuomas Viertola to call a sports athlete a hero degrades the word and the people who are
Big slow
You're too easily triggered, snowflake. Try becoming a man one day. The heros shown here don't give a damn about who stands and who kneels for our flag. What matters is what they believe. You'd know this if you actually talked to any.
Grow a pair.
Ode to the fallen.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

These men have hearts of gold and they have pure souls... Its sad think that there are less and less every year
This is so beautiful, happy Memorial Day! 🇺🇸
Good to see some Europeans still appreciate the sacrifice
I'm not sure what you are getting at, but it implies the tension that exists between Europe and the U.S. in the current political climate. You should know that this gratitude that is shown here is still the norm here. Most people over here are as thankful as ever to these men for what they did and show it every year in great memorial ceremonies.
Do not mistake any problems people may have with the current behaviour of some Americans for ingratitude towards those that fought for our freedom 75 years ago.The two aren't related and should not ever be. It dishonors the memory.
RESPECT TO ALL WHO SERVED! FROM THE UK.
In the towns of France where there is a cemetery of the fallon Hero's they pick a hero and take care of it so that his sacrifice is not forgotten
" he'd like to have my .45" haha love it. Thank you sir for all that you have done.

It is a blessing to know that people like these, who honor our US (and allied) heroes, still exist out there.

There is no such thing as good or bad guys, just two different groups trying to obtain two different goals.
