- This is a collection of clips shot around the Charleston SC area from a Sunday evening sunset to the following Monday morning when we leave town. All music and equipment FAQ's are in the closing credits.
I just can’t stop watching this nice video
Thank you very much!
I live in Columbia SC but I daytrip to Charleston all the time. The Freeway system in the Charleston Metro is the best in SC. And the way you captured the lights and the factories of North Charleston Is exactly what I love to see at night. Thanks for this video as an alternative to the google maps I use daily to get away from time to time. New subscriber.
Thank you for watching and for the comment!
Spectacular and artful. Makes Charleston look like a magical place indeed!
Thank you very much!
That Ravenal Bridge must be totally epic in person! I was in Charleston several years ago for a few days (my husband was there on business and I went with him) but somehow I missed it. Whichever way we went coming into town did not include crossing that bridge. I didn't even know it existed then. One of these days I'm going back to that area and I'll make that drive for sure, and, hopefully also walk across the bridge.
Yeah, it's definitely pretty cool in person.
I can't get enough of watching this video, your music selection, and cinematography is just simply awesome!!
I appreciate that a lot, thank you.
Who needs a mountain when you have architecture like THAT! The bridges, enhanced by a blaze-red sun set, are amazing!
Thanks, Charleston has its moments for sure.
i know rly.
That's amazing
Totally 200% agree
Mount Pleasant SC
WOW! that sunset crossing the bridge with Miles Davis playing literally gave me chills and goosebumps! WELL DONE, SIR!
Thank you very much!
(3) dislikes, what sane person wouldn't enjoy this experience? this ride is fun, exciting, exhilarating, relaxing, with non stop aww affect!!! this is one of my most favorite videos that I enjoy viewing time after time! With total sincerity, I appreciate you devoting yourself to making such wonderful videos, such as this one Jim!!! AWESOME DUDE!!!!!!!!
I appreciate your kind words as always James.
My pleasure! too bad everyone don't see the same features in your workmanship as we do, it's like looking into a (Rembrant or Picaso) painting, and paying attention to each paint brush stroke, detecting all of the detail information projected into each portrait, that's how I classify your videos!
Wow, that's rare air, thank you so much!
Hello from the upstate part of SC. Here in Landrum (Spartanburg County).
I was stationed in Charleston from the mid 80s to the early 90s and I remember sailing under the old Cooper River bridges and the many speeding tickets earned on 26 and 526. Great seeing Charleston again. Thanks Jim - awesome video!
Hey Jim, I have to comment on your video again, The aww affect on stage (4) simply will not dissipate, each time I watch this video, the excitement and anticipation of the ride across the Ravenal Bridge remains highly for me, your musical track (Simply Red-Sunshine) has a lot to do with it, I envision myself sitting in the passenger seat enjoying the experience first hand, your a genius and I am glad I found your videos because they help me to alleviate stress, this video is marked no.# 1 on my play list.... Thanks again!!!!! :-)
Thank you VERY much James, I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they help you in some way, that really makes me feel good to know. Got a new one coming Monday AM :)
This may be one of your best videos so far, Jim. I've been watching this thing over and over and over again since you've posted it. Thank you so much for the ride, and it never gets old going over that mesmerizing bridge (which may be one of my personal favorites of all time). I have been to Charleston myself this past summer, and filmed both the Arthur Ravannel Jr. Bridge and the I-526 Bridge in both directions, and much much more. It may be a while until all of it is on my channel, but I will see what I can do. Going Southbound on the Ravannel Bridge on US 17, I got some good sunlight as the sun was getting close to being in the sunset phase, but it couldn't compare at all to the sunset footage that you got. I cannot tell you just how amazing of an experience it was riding through the night in such a beautiful city, and listening to the easy, elegant music from Miles Davis. Throughout, the video, that sunset was unbeatable. Sorry for the rant, but I just can't stop talking about how much I love this video!!!
Thank you for the kind words David, glad you enjoyed the video and I'm glad you have had the chance to enjoy the bridges in Charleston in person as well.
Ravenel Bridge is a beautiful bridge. It has become one of the state’s landmarks since it was built. I can’t wait when I get my photography camera and go down there to take photos of it at night. It beautiful at sunset when it is lit up. Sometimes I wish I lived in Charleston just see that bridge on a daily basis (I lived in Columbia SC).
Whoa what a beautiful sunset!
I wish I could move to Atlanta, Charlotte, New Orleans, Miami and Charleston area because those cities are Beautiful! Especially sunsets... Great video jim!
Thank you!
This video is one of my personal favorites! And your welcome!
Great music choice with Miles Davis when crossing the Ravenel Bridge
Much appreciated, thank you!
This video will never get old, still get goose bumps while I am watching it.Crossing the (Ravenel bridge at night, just enhance its beauty....
Many thanks!
Words just can't describe the sensation riding along with you Jim, another one of my most favorite videos!!!!!!
My hometown !!!!! You are such an amazing driver & photograper ! Very nice video ! I love the Charleston area !
Thank you for watching!
Thanks, spent a lot of time there in the 80's have not been there since the new bridge. Remember the old double bridges it replaced. Pretty downtown but hot and humid in the summer. Thanks for sharing most impressive.
Thank you, yes those old bridges were a lot different than what's there now.
That bridge is a thing of beauty! Excellent video.
Thank you!
Jim, my Daughter and best friend both live in Charleston, and THANK YOU for "nailing this down", so to speak! Great music and video both!!! We get down once a year, and this was just awesome! We haven't seen a bad one yet from you Jim, and thanks for another great year! Safe travels and good health to you!
Thank you for watching and for the kind comment John, much appreciated!
Brilliant video. Best of the trip. Many thanks for posting.
Thank you Bill!
Checked this out shortly before my recent trip to Charleston to get an idea of what to look for from a "Roadgeek" perspective. Excellent!
Thank you!
Great music at the beginning!!!
Thanks
Gotta tell you, crossing that huge Ravenel Bridge in South Carolina is almost like going up,up,up towards the sky seeing far away like more City lights and power plants. Hope that you keep on making those trips successful and safe and be careful. Peace!
Thank you very much!
You weren't kidding about the "Serious Wow Factor." I thought it was going to be just another flyover like I-495 south to I-95 at the Springfield Interchange in Virginia, but you proved me wrong.
Two bridges likely run higher! That's Houston's IH 610 Loop Sidney Sherman Bridge and the U.S. 17 Little Back River Bridge by Savannah! That's once their raised! While feeder rd bridges be added to the Ravenel as 8 lns!
I-26 is a magical little road: pretty cool views in Columbia, but on either end you've got the incredible views in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, then to the east you have Charleston and it's wonderful bridges.
Having said that, be thankful the Ravenel Bridge is there now, because crossing the old Cooper River Bridges was a dicey adventure. It wasn't so bad on the "new" bridge heading north, with three lanes and a bit more space - still a scary feeling, but reasonably OK. The southbound "old" bridge though? Yikes... two narrow lanes, nothing between you and the Almighty but rusted out railing, and engineers worrying that the bridge was no longer safe to travel on to keep you company while you prayed to make it across in high winds. Naturally I was in a tour bus crossing most of the time.
Thank you, I remember driving the old bridges, the Ravenel is an improvement of epic proportions.
Freewayjim 295 North Philadelphia pa
I appreciated the selection of video and music, editing. The videos correspond to musical accents. ...descents, turns .. Very good.
Thank you, that's something I try to capture.
I've got a couple of these videos myself, a daytime and nighttime Ravenel...kids screaming in the back, music blaring...you're right it is thrilling. Thank you for your perspective, it's lovely :)
Thank you for watching!
Nice! I love watching your videos, I'm going to keep riding along with you every chance I get.
Thank you very much for that!
Lots of pretty views in this area. The roads look nice too. Feel some inspiration coming on
Beautiful video of my hometown! ONE of these days when the city council members stop arguing about who’s on first and what’s on second, they may actually finish the Mark Clark!!
Thank you very much and yes that needs to be completed.
Charleston looks bigger than I expected. During the morning, there was some traffic on the bridge and I-26. It may not be NYC or LA, but it definitely have a big city look expect that it doesn't have a true downtown.
Very cool- and you made the sunset work for you with the bridges, timing- very nice! Well worth waiting to see when I could sit, enjoy the video and all! I am very happy I got to see it tonight- the Ravenal bridge is one I want to check out myself- lol- very enjoyable to watch! You have made sunsets, dusks to dark and weather work for you in your vids lately- makes for must-see videos! Charleston is one of the cities on my list to check out for many reasons and all- so this gives me a bit a preview!
Thank you, sometimes Mother Nature throws me a bone, lol.
That sunset was... uau! And it always go along fine with some jazz music! Nice one Jim!
Thank you!
I like the Bridges & the Sunset View and the Night time drive with the Jazz music was good!
Thank you!
Jim, I would love to say, this is my most favorite video, but I know according to your workmanship, you have something that will be even more jaw dropping, but the visual affects are outstanding.. keep on trucking!
IMO this one is pretty good but I think I have much better from 2013 to 2016 trips, in fact 17-10 from this trip is a lot better IMO. ua-cam.com/video/FWZjuwJWwzo/v-deo.html
Thank you for responding and recommending some more of your work, looking forward to seeing them!!
Note to self : add 17 - 14 to favorites.
I am so glad that you appreciate the industrial zones of a metropolitan area. This vid was the second time you mentioned it as being special. I thought for sure that I was a bit weird for that same appreciation. For me, It started just E. of Chicago, in Indiana on I 94. Union Carbide. Nothing but pipes, tanks and bright lights.13 yrs. old
11:17 now that is an intriguing sight - red stoplights against the backdrop of an unbelieveably awesome fire-red sunset
and a bit on the pink side, too
The sunset is break taking it's so gorgeous !!!
That was very nice... go Charleston! that ride exceeded my expectations lol
... and the music was just right
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm the 3030th viewer sorry I'm late to catch and your commentary last night. Let me just say it was worth the wait for your presentation was very factual, as well as entertaining, well done.
Thank you very much!
That's cool I can tell you put a lot into the video great music choices also.
Much appreciated, thanks!
I love the bridge and it's a excellent video
Thank you!
Nice work with the video! Perfect lighting. Charleston was always my favorite scenario on SimCity. I've been interested in it ever since.
Thank you, hope you get to see it in person someday.
Adam K and Soha followed by Miles Davis is such a strange combo but they're both great and worked quite well for this video! Nice work, and that sunset must have been amazing in real life. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you and yes that sunset was incredible in person.
quite an amazing city! its so beautiful!
Damnn!!! that sunset though
The view of the harbor from there is the best
I don't know if (UA-cam) give an accurate account of how many people watch your video, but I am certain it should have counted at least two dozen times I have watched this one! It is still mesmerizing, the thrill and excitement does not dissipate!! (Still one of my favorites!) looking forward to 2018 videos Jim!!
Thank you James, I really appreciate that and I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Thanks for a great ride, Jim, with a great soundtrack, to boot. We're going to be in that general area next Monday for the solar eclipse.
Thank you, enjoy the event!
You really had some serious wow factors in there Jim! I really like the sunset the best! It was beautiful! I've seen that sunset outside of my house before.
Thank you!
Great video, jim. As I was born in Charleston, I was there to see the demolition of the Grace Mem bridge..and it was worth it, Ravannel bridge is simply amazing. But I live in Savannah now.
Thank you, I've driven the old bridges many times, the Ravenel is indeed amazing!
Great bridges and images!
Nice job Jim and your cameraman Erik for producing this video. Regarding I-26 it's the main interstate that links Charleston,SC to the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee North Carolina state line and for US-17 in the Charlestown,SC area my guess it was recently rebuilt around 1999-2005/2010
Thanks
Thanks its beautyful sunset,of course the video ah... the music too.
Thank you!
That was cool getting to see Charleston. Hey you clinched I-526!
Thanks, I've clinched before but doing it on film is cool too!
On my Charleston trip this past summer, I had hoped to clinch both I-526 and I-520 (GA-SC) for the first time, coming from northwest Georgia. Unfortunately things didn't work out that way, and both interstates are still unclinched for me personally. But I'm glad you and others have been able to do it, Jim!
Nice video. Good jobs. I 'm living in Central Africa particulary in Congo B. I like your video because I discover the America (sorry for my english)
That's quite alright, thank you for watching!
Nice video and music I want to go to Charleston someday
Thank you!
That sunset was amazing! I guess you liked that "little" bridge a lot.
It truly was, and yeah, I have a soft spot for it :)
Great Video do you ever have a problem driving over high bridges. I live in FL now all sudden at 52 bridges seem to bother now. thank you for your time.
Thank you, no, that's never been an issue for me (I'm 52 as well), going up very steep hills like on some of the streets in SF is my kryptonite.
Very cool! One of my good friends called Charleston home during college.
My thoughts when you said "serious wow factor ahead":
-Mmm I wonder if he means this pretty cool flyover
(4 seconds later)
-DAYUM WHAT A BRIDGE!
LOL!
Very nice ride Jim. Enjoyed it.
Thank you!
oh cool. I think near the beginning that's the same section of road that Socarboy recorded at night, sent to me, and let me edit. Nice to see it going the other way and in daylight to boot :-D. That's a fine looking bridge!
Thank you, yeah I think it is the best among the cable stayed bridges in the Southeast US.
Don holt bridge over the coop is where they filmed that die hard with a vengeance scene where the guy gets cut in half by the wire
Great factoid.
Freewayjim remembered it from the behind the scenes and they said that it reminded them of being on the shore of the Long island sound
I love watching your videos, they are interesting to follow and the views are amazing. Have you ever driven on the motorways here in the UK ?
Thank you very much and no, I have never been to the UK.
man i miss charleston
That bridge reminds me of that bridge from La Porte and Baytown TX
Also, it's unfortunate that I-526 is incomplete. It saddens me greatly, but hopefully they may be able to do it in the future. I'm sure the absence of Interstate 526 on Johns and James Islands causes traffic and efficient transportation problems on some of the surface roads in that area. On my Charleston trip this past summer, I went to the beach at Kiawah Island, and I think it would have been a lot easier to get there if I-526 is finished. But oh well, while inconvenient for now, it is a bit of rich interstate history, but I hope it can be fixed and finished in the future for the good of transportation.
Next to the video socarboy did of Charleston roads at night, this vid is right up there with that one. Although I like how socarboy also filmed some of the local Charleston roads at night, which you seem to be less into and more into expressways. That's okay, I still enjoyed how you timed it perfectly with the sunset. And the choice of the song Summertime by Miles Davis for part 3, was great!
BTW if you like bridges a lot and in case you ever get up to Burlington, VT or northern NY(like say I-87 near Plattsburgh), I'd strongly suggest going a little further and up to Montreal, Quebec. The bridges over the Saint Lawrence River are worth a look, and you'd enjoy filming those bridges.
Dude....
Just giving you some suggestions, for places to film down the road. That is all, and I hope you get to more places to film one of these days. It's just I've been there before, and the bridges in Montreal kinda reminded me of the Mississippi River bridges near Saint Louis.
Blessed country
Good drive !
Thanks
awesome video
These are the Worst Freeway signs I ever seen in my Entire Life. Nice job on this Video 👍
Thanks, lol!
+Freewayjim, And I’m not talking about the Signs You made. The Freeway signs in South Carolina is just the Worst I’ve ever seen.
@@SlowedByCinnamxn I knew what you meant, they are lacking indeed.
I remember riding that bridge with my mom to my doctors appointments at MUSC.
Wow, OMG, Wow!!! I think I am addicted to your videos... Stage (4), the grand finally, I had to move the curser back to 14:46 at least three times to continually keep that good vibe going when you cross the Ravenel Bridge.. Pardon my French but (Damn this is a good video)!! Please keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Coming from downtown Charleston looks different not you should check it out and cool video
Thank you!
Not 100% but I think I may've crossed one the original bridges when I was 8 with this "big whatever" at the time under construction right next to me...
Any plans to upgrade any of those at-grade roads past this gargantuan 8 lane bridge to full freeway status? Heak, I was beginning to think the I-26 terminus should've been rebuilt to go along the bridge until they CLEARLY restriped the offramp to a lower capacity...
I like that song! "Twilight"
I’ve been to Charleston, South Carolina before.
Jim you got a lot of time on your hands for these videos? Great Video!
Not really, but thank you.
Love that first song, can't find it though
The album is called "Last Picture Show" maybe that will help, it's somewhat obscure.
THX.
I'm here for the 19 minutes... let me watch lol
lol ohhhhhh yeah
Yeah. I mean that bridge is more bigger than the Fred Hartman bridge in Baytown, Texas!
Suggestion for your next trip: perhaps a wintertime trip to New England to get snow-covered trees and forests?
I have no desire to travel in unpredictable winter weather.
Freewayjim can you do a video of New Orleans, Louisiana just like this
I have several videos from New Orleans (just do a search for Freewayjim New Orleans), this is probably the best one. ua-cam.com/video/3GlPeodR2E0/v-deo.html
Hey I love this I never get to go but this... Awsome respond if u see dis
Thank you for watching!
My home town
Happy birthday
Happy anniversary birthday
Thank you!
At 4:12, you talkin' 'bout Mt. Pleasant. Ya' see, it doesn't mean mount, but it means ministers. There was a minister back'n the day that was really pleasant to deal with. So the name became Minister Pleasant. :-)
I've heard locals say 'Mount" so that's what I went on.
How Long Did You Travel For?
On this particular trip? 4 days.
Progressive House is the official music of freeway travel !!
My dad is scared of driving over the Ravenel bridge
Summertime. Miles Davis. R.I.P!
Thanks from Russia, Kaliningrad.
Plz do Nashville or Memphis
I've done videos of both places.
Hope you enjoyed some good seafood...Mount Pleasant has some of the best seafood on the Atlantic.
Make a video of driving all over Texas
I have many videos from Texas on this channel.
Try to make it 2 hours 30 minutes and 21 seconds
9:50 should be woodville
This lamb was orphaned, and raised by humans directly, that's why this lamb understands the human English language. Why was the interstate orphaned, and any plans for it to be adopted and finished?
There's a long story behind all that, basically that section was built (and is currently signed as SC-30) before the connecting part of I-526 was even approved (and still isn't). Google it for the full story if you are interested.
