What size you put the struts gas ???? Or do have the link where you buy it ??? I have my 1974 super beetle!! And I want to change the classic spring hood for the strut gas !!!
Jeremiah Paris I purchased these from a place called bugeye (I think that’s how they spell it) out of GA. Thanks for watching the video. Stay tuned as I’ll be posting more from my 1962 build.
Jamie Pezoulas I placed it in a vice and used a punch to knock out the pin. Remember to stay clear of the end as it will come out with a lot of force behind it.
How does the force required to close the hood with the gas struts compare with the stock springs? I have a fiberglass hood and had to remove the stock springs because they put too much stress on the hood when closing. Thanks.
Mike Staub in my opinion these offer less resistance that the original springs. As you already know the springs push the hood up once it reaches the bend point and has a lot of resistance until it surpasses that bending point when closing. These gas struts don't do that as there is no bending to them. Just one smooth continuous motion going up and down. I'm starting work on my 62 and will go from spring to struts again.
That is a clean bug. Nice
Thanks, man. Great idea!

How did you get the pin out of the bracket?

CCCvwBUG Thanks! That’s what I was thinking of doing.
CCCvwBUG just knocked the pins out in the vice and had the other end pointed at the wall and you’re right about the spring flying off, lol.
Jamie Pezoulas glad that no one was hurt. I’ve seen and heard of some pretty nasty injuries these can cause. Hope your build is going well.

Also- you can have the gas level reduced if its too high
What size gas shocks are they?
The video in the beginning it has a picture of the item and it says the length in 11 3/4" extended and 8" compressed.
