So, what can I say about today's episode in relation to the novel? The first attempted meeting with Zhuge Liang comes a bit later. Incidentally this thatched cottage is located near Sleeping Dragon Ridge, hence the soubriquet. 0:12 Liu Biao is pretty peeved when he finds out about the attempt on Liu Bei and almost has Cai Mao executed, so it kind of makes sense Liu Bei could walk back into here safely. 2:10 Cui Zhouping is a friend of Zhuge Liang. He has a conversation with Liu Bei about the state of the empire, but otherwise doesn't do much. 4:19 He's the guy that warned you about Cai Mao! You just saw him two episodes ago! He saved your life, dude! That said I'm not sure what he's doing in Xinye. He seems to be standing in for Xu Shu/Shan Fu, who by now was Liu Bei's advisor, but as I said last time, he apparently isn't in this game. 4:37 Cao Cao's larger goal is to take Liu Biao's province. For this attack, the target is less Xinye and more Liu Bei himself. 8:14 Lu Kuang and Lu Xiang are brothers. They're first introduced working for Yuan Shao's son Yuan Shang, but convert to working for Cao Cao after helping arrange a marriage between his daughter and Yuan Shao's other son Yuan Tan. They featured somewhat prominently in the aftermath of Yuan Shao's death, when his sons vied for control against each other and against Cao Cao; they're also the ones who propose attacking Liu Bei before he can muster the resources to become a major threat. Anyway they die here.
(0:15) I guess the Power Pill is pretty much worthless to you in this game. Seems weird that it always just gives you the weakest 1.2x damage critical hit instead of counting towards the escalating damage multipliers from multiple crits in one battle. I wonder whether that was an intentional design decision or a programming oversight?
My guess would be that they wanted to nerf Power Pills, since they were so abusive in the first game, and items can stack in this game. In theory, you could just use the one Power Pill to get the first crit, and then take whatever natural crits you get from the remainder of the battle. However, they can really clutter up the inventory, which I like to use for more accessories, like Chi Tu Ma.

Down to the woods!
4:33 - 4:57 - 10,000 would be overkill on the castle in this case.
8:14 - 8:15 - Lu Kuang: Such daring. I'm of a style.
Luring them into the dense forest so you can split up the massive army and take out some of them is a good strategy.
Yeah, that's something they definitely expand upon in this game: real battle tactics; albeit limited to what they can do in an 8-bit game.
You could think of treasure in dungeons as being hidden supply caches that the various armies put in place for various reasons.
Where is Macaulay caulkin?
